Celtic Diary Thursday October 30: Guidetti Finds The Netti

Eight games-one as substitute-eight goals and seven assists.

John Guidetti staked his claim for a permanent contract when his loan deal expires next summer, and its apparent even at this stage of the season that he should be given what he wants to stay.

He scored three times, twice from free kicks, and once from the penalty spot as Celtic overran Partick Thistle 6-0 in the League cup. Both free kicks were placed with power and accuracy, not seen at Celtic Park since the days of Lubomir Moravcik and Shunsuke Nakamura, and when you have a player who can do that, then you have to fancy your chances against anyone.

Memorable season ?

Not as unlikely as we thought when Boerrigter, Berget and Tonev were the managers first picks. It looks like their attempts to curry immediate favour with Ronny Deila have petered out, and they won’t feature any more unless theres no-one else, and finally the boss has found his first choice fifteen.

I say fifteen because the back up on the bench is equally important. Leigh Griffiths joined the fray last night, and added a couple, one of which was as good a headed finish as you’ll see anywhere. And when you consider that Emilio Izaguerre got his name on the scoresheet-at the right end-then it shows how much Celtic dominated, and how hard they worked, to achieve a place in the semi finals of this tournament.

In fact, it could easily have been more but for the fact Manchester city were losing at home to Newcastle, and with twenty minutes to go , they rang and asked for Guidetti to pop down and help them. He left the game at Celtic with around twenty minutes left, but was unable to get to Manchester in time, due to leaves on the track delaying his train.

Thankfully.

Many have made much of the fact that Manchester city will want £5m in January to buy Guidetti, which will have alerted other clubs, but he’s ours until the summer, and we have first dibs

. If we wait until summer, theres no transfer fee, and any money can go straight to Guidetti, which will compensate for the lower wages he would receive at Celtic, in much the same way Joe Ledley ended up in the hoops.

Negotiations shouldn’t be too difficult. Guidetti gave his shirt to a supporter last night, and judging by his comments to Radio Scotland, he appears to have bought into the Celtic way;

Liam McLoed asked : : “Would you like to sink your teeth into Rangers in the next round?”

Guidetti replied  “Of course it would be a fantastic game to be a part of. “Come Hampden Park, 11 people standing in front of us, they are going down. Hampen Park will be amazing, no matter who we play.

Which was elaborated on by Gavin Berry in the Record;

Celtic hat-trick hero John Guidetti

warns Rangers they’re going down if he lands

dream Old Firm semi-final

Dream ? Old Firm ?

GUIDETTI, who used to rise early as a kid in Sweden to watch one of the most famous fixtures in world football, admitted he’d love to play his part in an Old Firm derby.

Rise early  ?  Guidetti explains “We all know the Old Firm derby is a very special game. This is the fixture I used to wake up at 11.30 in the morning to watch when I was a small kid. It’s normal.

  Exactly. Normal. Hardly early.

Stockholm is  an hour ahead of Glasgow. So, for an afternoon kick off at 12,30, it was already 1.30 over there. Perhaps Berry hasn’t actually got the hang of how the world clock works.

With doubt already cast upon the validity of the article, we need to tread carefully through the rest of it. In case we stand on something warm and sticky. Careful now…. Berry wants to talk about the prospect of meeting plucky , cash strapped minnows ( copyright NTV magazine ) Second Rangers

It’s fantastic, very spicy. You see it means a lot to people and the atmosphere is always amazing. You can even hear it on the TV. It’s an amazing match.

“As a footballer you don’t need to be told how special these games are. I have probably not played in anything like it because at Ajax v Feyenoord away fans are not allowed to travel for security reasons.

“If you play away it’s only their fans and if you play home it’s only your fans. The Old Firm would be a fantastic game to be part of but come Hampden in the semi-final the 11 people standing opposite us are going DOWN. This is how we feel every time we play.”

Thats the contractual obligation to mention Scotlands new boys out of the way,

“We want to win every game and this cup. I’m like that with everything – if I play Monopoly or cards I want to win. We’ll be up for the semi-final, we’ll be hungry and want to win.

“I am excited in every game I play for Celtic because it’s an honour to pull the shirt on. There are four good teams left in the Cup and this club deserves trophies so hopefully we can do it.”

Unfortunately, Guidetti’s form has been noticed back in Manchester,

John Guidetti just cannot stop scoring for loan club Celtic.

The City forward had already netted five goals in his last five games for the Scottish champions prior to Wednesday night’s meeting with Patrick Thistle.

And he added to his growing tally with a brilliant hat-trick in front of the Parkhead faithful in the Scottish League Cup.

The Swede opened the scoring by brilliantly directing a free-kick into the top left corner from the right-hand side with 31 minutes on the clock.

Guidetti was again at the centre of things before the break when he was the victim of a poor challenge from Stuart Bannigan that saw the Partick man sent off.

He then bagged from another set-piece from a central position just after half-time to make it 3-0 to the hosts.

The opportunity for the 22-year-old to complete his hat-trick was presented when he was brought down in the box – and he made no mistake in converting the penalty to end the game as a contest.

All Celtic fans in the Manchester area should buy up all the copies they see of tonights Evening News. Just to be on the safe side.

In case you hadn’t noticed, Celtic , Aberdeen, Dundee Utd and the first division side ae the four who will be in the draw on Saturday.

Why the draw wasn’t made straight after the games , and thus ading to the excitement of a tournament which could do with some extra excitement is’nt immediately clear, but we hear that the oven down at the Scottish League kitchen is on the blink, and it can’t be fixed until Friday afternoon because the man said he hasn’t got the correct part.

And it takes a while to warm those balls up.

Consiracy theorists everywhere were alerted to the possibility of Second Rangers earning much needed cash from meeting with Celtic. Which in itself shows how difficult it is to generate interest in a new club, even if its pretending to be another one.

This time, the man with the tin hat on can’t go wrong.

If Celtic avoid the Ibrox club, its because the beaks want an all Glasgow final to hype up.

If, horror of horrors, Celts have to play them, the more likely option since there is little chance of McCoists monkeys beating any of the other sides, then its to make the semi final a chance to show what the game has been mising.

You know, bigotry, violence, wife beating, street riots etc.

I don’t want to play them, but if we have to, we have to.

The final would be better. That way we can hold the two highest scores in cup finals. One against the old club, and one against the new one.

Guidetti against McCulloch ? Scepovic against Boshni ?

Boyd and Miller against van Dijk and Denaayer ?

No wonder Mccoist would rather avoid the Hoops.

Mind you, Craig Paterson, once of hibernian and Rangers , did tell his Radio Scotland audience last night that Boyd was the best striker in Scotland.

Scarily, he’s probably not the only one who thinks that.

Aleksandr Tonev is at Hampden already. Not for the game, but for his hearing after he was accused of racist remarks. The Bulgarian has already said he’s been told he’s innocent, so there will be another hearing straight after for giving the public the impression that the SFA is a little less than completely above board.

And we leave you today, happy that we have been able to help one of lifes less fortunates fulfill one of his wishes….

You see, young Lewis MacLeod, of Ibrox , in Glasgow has told the official Second Rangers website what he has been dreaming of.

I’d Love A Celtic Tie

Happy to help.

Great result last night and I for one hope that one of the New Firm draw them and skelp them out, pretty please!!
While pleased with the recent run of results let’s not get carried away; it was two games ago that we had a mass debate (steady!) regarding the result vs performance with Astra. I have been on the “give him time” side of the argument, but want to see a few more results like last night in the league, and especially in these last Europa games some progress on our defending and defensive shape. A good win on Saturday to take us into the International break in good spirits, and we’ll take it from there when we return.

Guidetti.. Absolute class . Scores when he wants to. Get him signed in the summer whatever it takes, wages paid for by shipping out the usual suspects and one legged jockeys.

I would dread playing against zombie rangers as they would have no chance of beating us and resort kicking lumps out of our players and cause career damaging injuries like they did to Izzy and Kayal. Their lowlife scumbag fans would love nothing more than elbows or bile moshni crippling our players and chances are the ref would let them get away with it.

This isn’t an emotional decision it’s purely financial as the reduced transfer values of players, eg Izzy and Kayal, due to serious injuries outweigh the gains of selling a few thousand extra tickets. If their fans caused millions of damage to the stadium, we wouldn’t want to play them, so I don’t understand why some Celtic guys want to play them and have players values reduced by millions.

And their lies the problem. Money seems to be the be all and end all for some.
I know what you are saying, but a tad extreme.
Izzy got injured at Pittodrie against the sheep.
Also, TFOD aren’t quick enough to catch our players, let alone injure them.

Right about Izzy, no more drink for me. Finances are key for them, playing us would be a huge boon. They’ve needed two emergency loans just to pay wages, despite what the MSM say, they need the SPFL and Celtic more than the SPFL and Celtic need them. They are dieing without us and I want to see them killed off.

I will celebrate that day, but until then, if we have to play them, I want to crush them, humiliate them, destroy them and embarrass them so much, that they will not want to play us again, ever.

They had 13k on Tuesday, a game against us would see a full house with high priced tickets and would net them well in excess of £1m, giving them a huge lifeline (at leaast 6 weeks wages). They need us to survive. We are the Champions League for them, even if lost by a handful they would still want to play us every week just for the cash.

Doc,
They would get nowhere near a Million.Hampden take 20% of both semi-finals.Then both gates are pooled together, and split 4 ways.Lucky if each team gets £300,000.

If we do have to play the zombears, wont it be at hampden?

Doc

50000 tickets at £40, at least, is £2m but I thought clubs got a third, rather than a quarter.

No,sfa take their cut 20% from both gates. Then receipts split 4 ways. There would be some 10k tickets for child/oap at £25.
Would have to be same so for both, derby or not.
Max sevco could get between 300k-400k.Don’t want them, hope they draw the sheepies !

Great diary,Ralph.
Heard liam mcleod,on radio sevco,interview Super Guidetti,after
the game.He was trying to put words into his mouth,re sevco.
Then we get the usual follow up crap, from the daily dump.
Was the Hamilton game oor Ronnies, watershed moment ?
Many were close to tears then. But in the diary, rage abounded, in the debate over Ronnie.
The Ross County was a must win game. And it was done with grit and style. Was this the turning point ?
I said,at the time,we had 4 must win games at home.Well,3 down,and 1 to go.
Winning breeds confidence for both players and fans alike.
It’s time now,for the Green Brigade,to start ‘ There’s only one Ronny Deila ‘ chant.
Let’s show our appreciation,he deserves it !!

Point taken,Andy.
But we have went from 6’th to 4’th in the league.Come
Saturday,we can be 3’rd,or might be 2’nd or 1’st,if results go our way.And we still have a game in hand.Next week,we could
qualify for Europa last 32 with 2 games to spare.
Therefore he deserves praise. And your right chants don’t have to always come from the Green Brigade, but where I sit in
North Stand Upper, there is not much chanting going on.

marko,
Yes,I was critical, but this was mainly due to a costly disaster
against Maribor, and playing one up front in the league.
However,I changed horses 2 weeks ago,and said if Ronny hits the home straight with 4 wins, then I’ll back him.He has one game to go at home, and he will have convinced me.
I also felt sorry for him,as it can’t be easy for him, here on his
own.With an estranged wife,back home.However,maybe he is
lucky,as I have an estranged wife at home.
Anyway,he deserves plaudits for coming through a dark period.

Great Diary Ralph, keep up the good work. Looks like we could have a new hero in Paradise, fingers crossed PL does the needful when the time is right. Lets hope Ronnie has turned the corner and we are on the right road with the team. HH

Great diary Ralph and nice to see some positivity from fans again. We are improving, no more no less. I am – and always was – in the give Ronny some time camp. There is DEFINITELY an agenda out there against Ronny; Huns Direct and their cheerleaders are hurting day in day out; there was a rush by Clyde, Shortbread and the Rags to condemn the man to – in my paranoid and biased opinion – take the focus off the other circus act in town.

Now our recent form may well be a temporary reprieve for Ronny and it may well turn out by Christmas that actually the guy IS out of his depth. But I for one will make that judgement based on 6 months of the man and by what my own two eyes see happening, and not based on what Hugh Keevins or any others who have taken a dislike to Ronny try to whip up (prime example – the snide remarks about Scepovic over a 2 or 3 week period on Clyde; I heard them lump him in with Balde, Pukki etc one night when the guy had barely had a chance to get going!!!!).

COYBIG!!! (oh and I think Tonev may still have a roll to play – he’s still finding his feet)

Once again scumbags trying to ruin the feel good factor that has come back to the club, after a shaky start to the season. Just like they did delaying cadete’s registration and the attempted delay with Guidetti’s, the safari mob are once again trying bring back they’re darkness to try and give the zombies a helping hand. Why would Tonev racially abuse someone in english when he could have said it in Bulgarian? For me not guilty.

holy sea

Reply to  Una

Una,
It would have been a kangaroo court. It would be interesting to know what supportive evidence was brought up,to find Tonev guilty. However,if he is truly guilty, then Celtic should sent him
packing,back to Villa.We don’t need this,from a loan player.

andybhoy

If there was a crumb of independent evidence to suggest that he did racially abuse the player, then Celtic would not seek an appeal.
If it is one man’s word against another’s, then, we will have opened Pandora’s box and we will have players banned left, right and centre.

Agree with your initial comment, against natural justice with no corroboration but wait a minute that is what the SNP are trying to introduce onto the statute books for all of us. My word against yours ,where does that leave Justice????
SFA still have an agenda with all things Celtic. Was Boyd not found not proven recently but then they only had TV evidence for that one. How can it possibly be not proven with clear TV. evidence ????
Then we have DUTD , they have carried out an internal enquiry into the behavior of Paton and Wilson in Byres Road last week . Both players have been fined and the matter is closed ????
Paton has been charged and is to appear in Court soon FFS .

Of course The sneaky MSM in the shape of Liam MacLeod of BBC interview with RD managed to get in the old chestnut that NL said that Racism had no place at Celtic and anyone found guilty would be moved on from the club !!!! RD had to ask him who said it what an ar,.-!&e MaCleod is.
Where has the Police investigation on Lee Griffiths gone ? Suspect into the bin but will this stop The SFA finding him Guilty and banning him for 7 games think not but won’t matter too much to Griffiths the way RD has been using him lately. Must be the smell of the Deady,s getting close , The Paranoia accusations will soon start to return to the Green side of Glasgow.

fickle fans or what.
3 weeks ago Deila was a dud and the team were crap, today he’s a great manager and we’re playing brilliantly.
I’ve always been behind Deila – we don’t have any real choice due to finances – however, I’m not going overboard, much as I enjoyed last night’s game.
Let’s all just sit back and let things happen.
Xmas will be time enough to decide if progress has been made. Meantime, let’s back the manager and the team.
With regards sevco, I don’t want to play them ever again. I don’t care if it would give us the chance to humiliate them, I don’t wish to see / hear the moronic fans that follow them, I doubt A & E are hoping for a Celtic v sevco game either, they’ve had it too good the last few years.
Can’t believe Celtic fans are salivating over the prospect.

Deilas done well all Season for me the CL was always going to be a tall order this year even more so than last year when we scraped in by the lick of paint on the crossbar at CP.
We have found our Level in the Europa and have done well so far I think.
Whilst we have yet to set the Heather alight in any of the games we have achieved our goal of getting the points.
On the Domestic front we have created enough chances in EVERY GAME to win them all by a decent Margin however…
Injuries to key players,Poor individual errors and performances,Poor finishing have cost us points we should really have bagged.
All this to a backdrop of a new Management team and change of Philosophy on how we attack.

It just needed time..time and a bit of patience that seemed to be lacking in a great many who as per usual hit the panic button after looking at a League Table after 8 games.

Never in any doubt for some of us we knew we had the players all we did was wait for their return and hey presto we are firing again.

Next step is to take this belief into Europe and finally put a performance in to match the results and I think Ronny will have cracked the doubters and panic merchants.

Here’s hoping (And expecting)he does.
