A Reader Writes..

One or two were asking about Pensionerbhoy, a regular contributor who had gone quiet of late. 

He answered my email....

 Two reasons for my relative silence.  First, I have been reluctant to become embroiled in some of the edgy discussions about the manager and our recent performances.  While I have found some of the arguments on both sides very absorbing, I find it difficult to put together any really coherent comments.  Or maybe it is just my piles are too sore from sitting on the fence. 

I really do want to reserve judgement for a while yet as I remember only too well the barren years of McGrory and pre-Stein. People think “the troubles” only started in the 80s/90s. 

No way. 

When you have experienced a decade of almost nothingness then, painful though it is, I probably have more patience and hope than most.  However, I see no benefit in letting the pain of unfulfilled desire rule my”intellectual” thoughts.

Secondly, and much more appropriate, I have been obscenely busy with an increasing load of voluntary obligations, house renovations and solitary living due to a three month sabbatical in the south seas by my wife.  I am finding out that giving the servants a living wage, holiday pay and time off are not always a good thing.  I am also learning that retirement and old age are simply an opportunity for so called friends and acquaintances to avail of your willingness (or should that be stupidity) to work 24/7 and not even for the minimum wage – in fact they often want you to cover their costs.  I now have more DBS checks than Celtic have duds.  My advice – keep working till it’s time for the brown box.

I do read as often as time permits and that is often in the wee small hours now.  This week I have hardly managed even that.I am afraid the brain can be a bit dry and extremely slow at that time and that referendum fix was no antidote to my malaise.

   I really appreciate your concern.  It is baffling but, in some mysterious way, uplifting that so many want to know if I am dead yet 😀

  You will know soon enough when the balloons and fireworks go off all over the country. 

Seriously, my grateful thanks to all who have asked  about me and if you and Desi are still speaking, please tell him my fence is leaning towards him for the moment.  My next plan is to listen to all the balanced arguments on the last podcast.  Give me another week and I should be back rambling on again about nothing worth reading.
