So, David Cameron is having a go at parents who smoke when the kids are in the car. At least we remember to put the kids in the car.
Thought I’d get that off my chest.
Celtic manager Neil Lennon has opened the door of opportunity to his fringe players after his “strongest ” line up made an arse of it against Aberdeen on Saturday;
“It’s something we will now think about.
“There are players here who deserve an opportunity, and we will have to take a look at that as the weeks and months go on.”
The decision has been applauded by some, but seen as a bit too late by others. Or both, by one guy.
The manager spoke of giving players early breaks again, to help with preparations for the upcoming Champions League qualifiers. Because these first picks obviously need time off, after their winter break in Turkey and their day off last Saturday.
“It seemed to work out okay for us last year, giving players early breaks.
“They are two ( Izzagurre and Ambrose ) who may miss the Champions League qualifiers, so that is something we will have to consider.”
Thats because of their involvement in the World Cup. Samaras is also likely to feature in Brazil, as is Fraser Forster. Is it significant he doesn’t seem to be counting on them for next year ?
The boss also thinks Kris Commons could do with a break
“The last couple of performances Kris has looked a little bit flat, and maybe we need to look at that.”
Or maybe you could pick players that will help , rather than hinder him ?
The same goes with new Norwegian signing Stefan Johansen, who must be frantically checking the small print on his contract to find the bit where it says he’ll have other players in the midfield alongside him every now and again.
Although he was maybe a wee bit to blame for Aberdeens winner, it has to be said he never hid afterwards, and put in a hell of a shift. Lennon commented on this as well;
“When players come in, you can be up there one week, and then the next…
“That’s where I want my experienced players to rally round, and our big players didn’t turn up on Saturday.”
There he goes again. “Big players ”
How about referring to them as “idle bastards who have found their comfort zone ” ?
Speaking of Fraser Forster, senile former England keeper Peter Shilton has warned the Celt that he will have to move south to get into the national team, despite being picked for the squad already while playing in Scotland just a year or two after bursting onto the scene.
“As a goalkeeper you always need to be tested and he isn’t being tested at Celtic now that they are out of the Champions League.
“I don’t want to knock Scottish football but if Forster was playing for a Premier League club week in week out and getting tested he’d be in a better position than just standing between the sticks for Celtic and having very little to do.”
“Forster may get another half in the next couple of games as Roy will probably experiment.
“Anything could happen at a World Cup and your No.3 could get a chance. It doesn’t have to be injury – it could be an illness.”
” Oh, look , a squirrel ”
And he wandered off to find someone else to talk to. Anyone else, in fact.
Shilton , of course , was a legend during his time in the England shirt, and is actually remembered with a great deal of fondness north of the border as well.
He also played at Leicester, and I spoke to a Leicester fan last night, who was looking forward to playing Manchester Utd next season. Even though his team are flying at the top of the Championship, he still doesn’t seem to think they’ll get promotion.
But, its not all doom and gloom and shite in the papers-though you’d be hard pushed to find this under Keith Jacksons by-line.
Ever hear of these guys ?
They have just published their list of top teams in the world-based on results. Have a look at the team in 23rd.

” The cup failures mean this season goes down as a bad one for Lennon. In terms of how good a manager he is, he can only truly be judged when he has the motivation to get out of the comfort zone and tackle a real challenge.
The Championship in England, for example. ”
Durham, a sort of English Derek Johnstone without the credibilty of a career in the game, is obviously seeking a reaction, as Celtic fans are renowned for ringing up chat shows and complaining.
Scott MacDonald….aka SKIP-PY!
Large-scale clearout, give the fringe players a chance(but even they wont have to do that much better)Lenny’s last chance……we should be all domestic stuff,,,,,maybe not every year, but this isnt right.Hail Hail.
oops…..winning all domestic stuff………
Number 13 is a great team as well…
Rogic is killing it on ozzie…a shite league, yes…but geez he looks good with the ball at his feet.look forward to him looking like the new maestro next season.you heard it here first…
To little to late from Lennon, it’s all been said before when we,v been pumped or humiliated or both as of SATURDAY, some of his fringe players that should have been given a go olong TIME ago ARE on the other side of the fucking world or on loan scoring more goals than Samaras Pukkie and Balde add ed together, sorry NEIL BUT your all talk and not many are buying it anymore, I’m certainly not. BY BY … KTF
been keeping a low profile for few days, it really hurts to be out of the cup, with the chance of winning it at Celtic Park blown by a disjointed, anaemic performance.
If 2nd rangers and their fans make it to the final I ll do a boke in my mouth seeing them run onto pardise for the scottish cup final. They ll wreck the place too, win lose or draw – two groups they don’t like – Celtic and the SFA – its a perfect storm.
I m not for this “get Lenny out” stuff though- two bad cup defeats in a season are Mc Coist – esque for sure, but I m still 100% behind him. he gets it for not paying 6m for players, and for not giving fringe players a go….it seems we want about 20 players in the team on a saturday. That said, sammi is clearly working his ticket and shouldnt be getting a look in, and what harm can Pukki and Balde getting a run of 5 games together do- we only have league games left? (sigh)
And please Ralph, your joke about Schumacher was in bad taste, but a photo and quotes from Adrian Durham? Thats about as bad taste as you can get – he called celtic a joke club last year when the club realeased a statement after the Nimmo Smith (non) verdict. He is the most transparent, clueless wind up merchant who gets paid to spout drivel that I have ever heard, please keep his face and words away from the diary – kids might be reading
Ralph,
I need to buy a new mouse as mine has nowe broke with the amount of scrolling . Is this the longest diary ever ?
Photo Quiz- Is it Kenny Ramsay – it says so on the photo.
I just wan’t Neil Lennon out….NOW!
That actually hurts to say that 🙁
… fair enough, but I’m assuming you’d want somebody else in to replace him so… WHO?
Afternoon Carl,
That is the question that cannot be answered of the cuff, thought has to be given on that matter…..For me Carl, the question that has to be asked is,what do we want Celtic to be?
I don’t believe we have a divine right to win all the time Carl, but I’m not settling for what we are getting from Neil Lennon & some players.
If your pushing me for a name, I’d go for Jupp Heynckes the Bayern Manager before Guardiola.
Maybe clutching at straws Carl, i just want better for Celtic….just for the record, i said at the time Neil getting the Celtic job wasn’t right, paradise is no place for a rookie, John Barnes proved that! HH!
Monti,
A bad defeat, but get rid of Neil ? I disagree.Yes, he’s made mistakes, but the main culprits on Saturday were the players.
Our only Big player,Commons, has carried the team all season
So,when he has an off day, the rest don’t perform ?
Lawwell has to provide Neil with serious funds for a target
man.He has to put money where his mouth is,when he talks
about an 8M player.
IMO Neil is the man to take us to the ‘Magica 10 ‘He has the
passion, drive and determination to prove his critics wrong.
Keep The Faith
@Holy sea,
I hear you my friend but I seriously have had enough man!
Celtic are a shambles m8,tactically Lenny isn’t up to it, he can’t change a game when it isn’t working.
Balde,Pukki & Boerrigter combined £6m plus? FFS!
continues to play the ineffective Samaras who looks like he’s taking jiri Jarosik’s horse tranquilizers!
Holy sea, I have been Lenny’s biggest fan & I love the guy as a man….but Celtic is bigger than any one individual m8!
He was a rookie when he got the job, that shouldn’t happen at Celtic.
Celtic need to show vision at boardroom level & go for a big name who will attract a better standard of player….everything is in place at Celtic, world class training facilities & Celtic park is fantastic when full & vibrant.
However we need a world class manager who can invigorate the club & the support, we need surgery brother,Celtic need a freshness about them!
HH!
I’m forced to listen to the radio due to working Saturdays and when Aberdeen scored the second I knew we were heading out. Willie Miller knew it too, the delight in his voice said it all. The support was muted and the sheep were giving it laldy. The team didn’t even seem to be able to raise their game. God, I can remember when we were in deep the support would be able to lift the players and they would go hammer and tongs at it. Not this group. As elcormaco states we’ve left the door open for the world’s worst support to now descend on Celtic Park and trash the place. HH
if the fringe players were good enough they would get a game,
only change the team after weve won the league and only one or two at a tme
as for the lumbering big whale killer hes not half the player Ledley is
Maybe I scrolled too quickly, but I didn’t see crack Latvia outfit Riga Mortis on that list.
NURSE!
Lots of valid points made.
A question I have, is while people wonder if Lenny can take us further, is it the other way around, are we now at the stage of holding him back?
Where would Lenny go…would a decent EPL side want him…barcelona was a while ago after all?
WHat can Peter offer Lenny to stay, a new load of players…is that what we want or do we want the weans given a chance?
Are Celtic heading down the way with the current personnel on and off the pitch?
AND
Can we get a striker coach?
Is that Pierce O’Leary in the picture?
Desimond – so close but at the end you added the wors coach lol.
My uptake on things is Lawell is cutting costs and its killing our team – sold best players and top earners, watch out Broony and co you will be next and replacing with cheap carbon copies that are not up to scratch yet or might never be HH all Lenny get Lawell telt ffs
Ally Hunter. Goalie from early 70s.
buncha moanin’faced gitz GET BEHIND YER MANAGER YA FUCHIN’ HALF -WITZ
elfranco, there’s no need for calling people half wits because they hold a different opinion to yours!
The manager is responsible for tactics & team selection….Lennon hasn’t got it on both!
Jim Brogan ??
yer man in the picture. goalie from early 70s. ally hunter.
We are so stale you can smell greggs bread crumbs b4 wee tubbo sally can hoover them up , time up4 lenny and backroom jokers who wouldn, t get a job in primark checking out the dummies ? Right enuff they signed at leastb4 dummies in the summer of discontent 2013 , guys like lawell and co. Will allways be in power positions at a club like ours ? I feel for the decent paying fans who will have to suffer the lazy bstds who lenny and co. Will defendvwith all those shitty cliches like ,stay with the so called 1stv11 , bring in the youngsters , blah , blah fekn blah , we are so boring and predictable that the mob of cowboys who should have been trampled into the dust , have been resurected and gave the limp scottish hack a field day of pointing out that those hun morons will be in a position to look human ?….help”””
Bring in roy the bhoy and boot the lazy bsrds out of the hoops , big time “
MON THE HOOPS !!!!!!!!!
Hail Hail N aw that.
Why is lawwell getting it in the neck how much has he given Lennon to go out and buy a player how much has Lennon waisted on getting a centre forward over £20 million maybe more.
And as for getting the money for players none of who wanted to stay wer the fans crowing to all and sundery were in the money saying this is the way to go buy cheap sell for mega bucks.
And as for the centre forward is it finbogsen can’t remember his name but did our chief scout not turn round and say he is not worth the money.
So I blame Lennon and his chief scout for all the duds we have ok there has been a few diamonds in there but not many.
