Celtic Diary Monday August 5

With players having already left, , and talk of another one at least about to head back down the M6, its refreshing to hear that talismanic midfielder Joe Ledley is more than happy where he is, and wants to get his new deal sorted;

“I’m getting older. I’m going to be 27 this season. I’m very happy here and it’s a fantastic club. This contract is important to me and hopefully it’s sorted sooner rather than later.”

No fuss, no conditions, just wanting to get on with his job.

” Everything is still on hold at the moment. As I said to the gaffer, I’d like to concentrate on the pitch more than off the pitch,

Hopefully, my agent can come up soon to sort everything out and the club offer me a new deal. It’s a very important couple of weeks.

“It’s a fantastic situation we’re in. Hopefully, I can just concentrate on my football first, qualify for the Champions League then go from there.

“I was exactly the same at Cardiff and I dealt with it well. Hopefully, we can sort something out in the next couple of weeks. I’ve not properly had a chat with the manager about it but he knows.

“He doesn’t want to say too much with one of the most important games coming up in our careers. We’re professionals and know how to handle it.

“I’m getting older. I’m going to be 27 this season. I’m very happy here and it’s a fantastic club. This contract is important to me and hopefully it’s sorted sooner rather than later.”

On the other hand, Kelvin Wilson has apparently told Neil Lennon he wants away. It would be no surprise if he did, there have been rumblings for a while, and it would explain why two central defenders have already been acquired, so maybe its not a surprise to Lennon either.

He might have waited till he got changed before he hailed his taxi though. Forest are reported to be ready to go to £2.5m for the stopper, and it looks likely they will. Wilson is not settling in Glasgow, by some accounts, and misses his family.

It would be terrible to be stuck in a big city earning thousands a week and only being able to nip home by plane every day or so.

If he does want away, let him go. but even at £2.5m for a champions league defender, we’d be letting him go cheap.

Still, thoughts now turn to the return game in Sweden against Elfsborg on Wednesday. BBC2 Scotland have already recieved complaints from the Laptop repairers association as their decision to show the game means that no-one will be flinging their lappie across the room after the screen freezes.

Swedish language teachers have also registered a drop in business.

Mananger Neil Lennon has a couple of things to worry about before the game, including new Dutch signing Derk Boerrigter;

” You can see what Derk brings to the team, that pace and balance on the left, he was coming inn off the line well when James Forrest was down the right hand side. He looked a real threat in the first half but we have a bit of a sweat on for Wednesday night to see how he is. He jarred his ankle. It was a total accident, he clipped Michael Kovacevics achilles and it has twisted. so we will have to see how he is. ”

He is also waiting on Georgios Samaras-crucial to the way Celtic play away from home in Europe, and Kelvin Wilson. The latter, as was evident with his “original and refreshing ” style of defending in the first leg, is clearly not focussed at the moment. Time for Charlie Mulgrew to step back in. Efe Ambrose can fill the role of bombscare at the back, we don’t need two of them.

Meanwhile, over in the dark side of the city, the inevitable exodus of the array of talent over there has begun. Striker Kane Hemmings has joined Cowdenbeath, where it is expected that he will get a full seasons football, something which is looking increasingly unlikely down Govan way.

With Charles Green returning as a consultant-though no-one has said who hired him, largely because no-one in the press has asked- the scene is all set for a few chuckles as the straight talking Yorkshireman clears his throat and takes to the mike.

But is it all too late ?

With stories of contractors walking out during important renovation work at the dilapidated old ground, theres been an interesting tweet or two from Charlotte Fakeovers.

Up until now, Charlotte has only tweeted about things that have already happened. This time, its about what is going to happen, which means that he/she has links on the inside…

Is it any surprise that Walter Smith is about to walk away ( again ) ?

Walter Smith

Its all too much for the dignified one and his cardigan. Who hasn’t actually said anything, as usual, just feeding his puppies in the press.

Chris MacLaughlin, of the BBC, is still looking for that personal first, where he gets something right, and he could have hit the jackpot with Smiths latest exit.

Although not too difficult too predict, as Smith has a tendency to run away when it gets tough, MacLaughlin might well be on the right lines with this. Especially since there can be little doubt Smith has asked him to write it;

” Rangers chairman Walter Smith is on the brink of quitting his post at the club following days of bitter infighting at Ibrox.

The former manager has already indicated to some within the club that he will definitely walk away if boss Ally McCoist is forced out and he may even go as early as this week ”

The usual lack of quotes, from anyone at all, follows, and the conclusion ?

I’ve read it five times, and have no idea. You try.

Then there is this from the BBC, as Celtic get off to a winning start in their defence of the title;

From the same guy. Note the picture, which may have been taken after Lennon found out he had to speak to that idiot.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

So, it should be an interesting week, and as long as Celtic are in the draw again on Friday, then I think its fair to say that most of us couldn’t care less what happens over at the shitpit.

But we are still going to laugh about it.

Yesterday saw the stunning Alison Brie , another Celtic supporter, of Mad Men fame pictured for your pleasure, and today we continue on the same theme. Who is this young lady, also a Celtic fan ?  To  be fair, this standard of personal hygiene means she could never be a fan of any incarnation of Rangers;
