Celtic Diary Tuesday March 19

Kris Commons opener, scored somewhat unfairly on Saturday before Aberdeen were ready, is now officially the fastest goal in Premier League history, timed at 12.2 seconds. He takes the record from team mate Anthony Stokes, who ironically sent him through to score.

Commons said;

“It was crazy. first of all, Mikael played it up front, Hoops got a flick on, I found myself in space on the edge of the box and Stokesyplayed a great ball through to me. I took one touch and smashed it in. It was one of those crazy things that usually never happen…”

He’s got that right. Most of his shots lead to the corner flag having to duck out of the way.

Its international week, and all told Celtic have an incredible twenty three players involved at that level. Thats without Scott Brown, Adam Matthews and James Forrest. Neil Lennon will no doubt be frantic as his players are with countries as far flung as Australia, Venezuela, Honduras and Wales.

He’ll be looking to get them back as soon as possible so they can injured in our games, like they usually do.

Theres debate, accusation and counter accusation after the Green Brigade march to the game on Saturday was attended by a number of “enthusiastic” members of Her Majesties Finest. Supporters blame heavy handed tactics, photo evidence certainly seems to back this up, and claim its all part of a collusion to get rid of the Green Brigade, noted for their banners , displays and that bloody bloke with the drum.

Celtic claim that talk of a collusion is “frankly, ludicrous”, but rumours persist that CEO Peter Lawwell has sworn to get rid of them. There is talk of him saying this at a meeting, but no evidence except hearsay-i.e., someone says he heard him say it.

Its difficult to believe that any company would openly try to remove any of its customer base, but it wouldn’t be a surprise. Complaints of one match bans on supporters season books are becoming commonplace, especially where the fan knew nothing of it.

The Brigade did not ask for permission to march, but let it be known they would be doing so. That prompted the police presence, which seems to have been relishing the challenge. One interesting footnote concerns a “Unite against Fascism” march, the same day, in the same city, where organisers were ย told by the Police not to go ahead, but did so anyway. There were no arrests. There were anything between 13 and 29 at the Brigades march, depending on what you read, and no-one has been convicted of anything yet.

The Celtic Trust says that Fans Against Criminalisation have held a meeting with “specially invited ” people to try to sort this out, (Ally McCoist has demanded to know their names), but all this behind closed door secret pow pow stuff isn’t getting anyone anywhere.

Public , clear the air talks are needed between the club, the police, and supporters groups. To clarify the situation and put minds at rest. but for the love of God don’t walk there in a big group.

Meanwhile, Joe Ledley is the latest Celt to be linked with a move away-back to his hometown club Cardiff- who look favourites to be promoted to the EPL. ยฃ3m has been mentioned, but its unclear if thats a deposit.

Ledley recently said he wants a new contract, and loves it at Celtic. I suppose it was just his turn, the press having run out of teams to link Wanyama with, who incidentally said just last week he was in no hurry to move.

Jimmy Calderwood, who said live on Radio Scotland on Saturday that David Murray offered him the Dunfermline job was back on air last night to clarify what he actually meant by his claims. What he really meant was David Murray didn’t offer him the job.

Calderwood, currently out of the game-like Murray-was at pains to deny his own words, and was in no way responding to a frantic call from Murray or Masterton telling him to retract. Still, at least he didn’t have to face prying questions from any of the press, this is Scotland, after all, to paraphrase Calderwoods reasoning as to why his remarks were taken out of context. Theres a story there somewhere, so lets see what is deflecting attention…

Oh, right on cue, Charles Green has come out and demanded his new club go into the second tier of any planned reconstruction, and their place on the bottom rung taken by a Rangers B team. He has guaranteed payment equivalent to 300 fans tickets to clubs left at the botom, and I’m sure they would get the money.

Green is sounding desperate, though with his club losing a million pounds a month, its hard to see how they can afford a B team. The Yorkshire Tripper needs to face reality sooner or later. His club were lucky to get one team playing in senior football, two would be a travesty. In fact, one is a travesty, but they do provide some light relief for serious football fans.

The big story in football this morning concerns Michael Owen, as the forward has announced his retirement, several years after he finished playing.

Kevin Gallacher scored twice for Scotland against Austria at Celtic Park, back when Scotland used to beat other teams.

Speaking of Scotland, who are the eight players from Celtic with over fifty caps?

Interesting arrest figures from saturday’s Green brigade protest on Saturday…..The police arrested 13 people, kids being intimidated by the police on their way to see Celtic game. Yet when 40,000 are singing the famine song (banned & illegal) or the banned Billy boys at the Asbestos/bigot dome, the police usually arrest 1 or two (giving them a cup of tea, telling them to sing louder next time, then letting them out with a wink & tickly handshake)! P.S. What are the asbestos levels at Ibroke & do they have a safety certificate? Do they have the money for repairs? Are people’s health at risk?

MONTI, IM HOPING THE ASBESTOS LEVELS AT THE BIGOTDOME ARE MASSIVE, IM HOPING THEY ARE VERY HARMFUL, IM HOPING THEY DONT HAVE A SAFETY CERTIFICATE AND I DEFINITELY KNOW THEY DONT HAVE MONEY TO FIX IT, THANKFULLY WE WONT HAVE TO SET FOOT INSIDE SNAKE ISLAND FOR A GOOD WHILE YET, DONT MISS THEM, AND WISH THEY WERE GONE FOR AN ETERNITY. HAIL HAIL, GOD BLESS THE CELTIC+

im with Monti on this, how long does everyone want to go on with this charade? Whats happening with the Green Brigade is disgusting but hardly surprising as the authorities have made their position abundantly clear after the whitewash of the LNS enquiry. Its over, the sevco / zombies / are the establishment team, always were and always will be. We have no place in this racket, other than as also rans…..once they gerrymander them back into the spl or whatever abomination its about to become. In my opinion only one course of action appears left, Resign from the SFA. If anyone here thinks being 2nd to that lot is something worth supporting then good luck, im done with it. As for the Board, well they clearly have accepted our position too. Disgusted!

Sorry ghuys and ghals, its not the amount of asbestos that is important, it only becomes an issue when you have to cut it, remove it or damage it in some way that releases the fibres.

Still ,we live in hope.

Anyone see the news coverage of falkland islanders celebrating their referendum, butchers aprons and red white and blue everywhere. Charlie and his boys would be welcome over there for sure.

listened to the phone in tonight on my way home as I was bored with my cd’s – mark guidi & DJ(who was it that told him he was funny, because they lied) – both are chuckles green / sevco PR men (I would say for free, but after the truth about trainor came out, they are probably on the payroll as well).
Anyway, I tried to phone in when I got home – all I hear is how we need to fast track sevco for the sake of the scottish game – the scottish game is in the state it is due to sevco cheating and because the SFA / SPL didn’t have the guts to do what they are paid / elected to do – deal with the wrongdoers.
The way sevco behaved and the way the SFA / SPl bent over backwards to help them has sickened me and many other fans – that’s one of the reasons fans aren’t going to the games – we are sick of the cheats getting away with it. Unfortunately, the media in this country don’t understand this.
If sevco are fast tracked anywhere, my Celtic seasaon ticket will be going back – 30 years I’ve had my season ticket, but if the bully boys get their way again, I’m finished. I can’t believe I was niaive enough to think the authorities would actually deal with them this time – caught red handed and still manage to get off with it.
