Celtic Diary January 2

All the debauchery associated with this time of year is now over, and the world returns to normal as from today.

The transfer window is open, and the picture represents the traditional Robbie Keane rumour.

Celtic host Motherwell  today and may have Charlie Mulgrew and Adam Matthews back for the game, although neither Commons, forrest or Stokes will be playing. Kelvin Wilson has decided to appeal his two match ban for elbowing Dundees Ian Baird, and so he can play.

Wilson maintains his elbow was accidental, and this has been backed up by the dundee man. however, this is Scotland, and a jail term awaits the Celt, with no remission or visiting rights. In the Celts favour, the referee didn’t blow for a foul, so there is a slim chance he’ll get off with it, but its not a time for holding ones breath.

One man who won’t face Motherwell is Rabui Ibrahims, who has joined Kilmarnock on a two year deal. He could have gone to russia, but has preferred to stay in Scotland. The palyer has conceded defeat in his quest to oust Scott Brown or Victor Wanyama from the first team, and so he has moved on. The report, on supersport .com, didn’t mention a fee.

What of players coming in?

Rami Gershon, an Israeli defender from Standard Liege has been mentioned, as have various other names as the MSM try to guess who is coming before the internet bampots do.  We’ll give it  a couple of days, and if we don’t hear anything, we’ll just make something up. Like everyone else does, really.

Kevin Thomson, once Scott Browns midfield partner at Hibs before he crossed to the dark side has an agent who wants to talk to Celtic, according to a twitter source, but he didn’t say what about.

Manager Neil Lennon says he will try to strengthen the left side of the team, either a winger or a left back, but there won’t be a marquee signing. He said:

“I don’t think theres any need. We have to be prudent, thats worked for us over the past couple of years and we feel like its the right way to go.”

Hopefully, what he means is there will be no more end of career wage packets for “Celtic supporters” such as Robbie Keane…

Gianluigi Buffon, the man who will ultimately stand between Celtic and a quarter final spot in the UCL, says that  Fraser Forster could go on to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world. The Italian legend says that (against Barcelona-we beat them, you know) Forster “didn’t look like a goalkeeper who was going to make a mistake” which is a good way of summing up the big man.

A former Juventus player, French midfielder and now something to do with the games admin Michel Platini has saved Neil Lennon a lot of work on a pre match pep talk when Juve come calling. Platini reckons that the Italians are as good as through to the quarter finals, having drawn Celtic. A copy of that statement should already be on the dressing room wall.

Elsewhere, Rangers target (stop laughing) Jamie Murphy is on the brink of leaving Motherwell to join sheffield Utd, £250,000 being mentioned, which would have been just small change to the Ibrox club. Except of course, they can’t actually register anyone yet. But that won’t stop the transfer talk from the new club, now heading towards its first birthday.

If , of course you hear anything let us know-perhaps Lionel Messi hanging around the club shop, or something like that.

Back to work today, and am I the only one who feels he needs a couple of weeks off?

Robbie Keane had so many boyhoid heroes on his bedroom wall of clubs he proclaimed to support…..his bedroom wall must have been like the great wall of china.
