Celtic Diary Wednesday May 13: Unlucky Thirteen

The EGM of the SPFL took place yesterday, and RIFC won SFA.

Only thirteen clubs voted in favour of an enquiry, considerably short of what was needed, despite mounting media pressure and all sorts of horses heads placed in beds, and that means we can now look forward to next season as soon as someone announces the end of this one.

Thats the plan, at least.

Neil Doncaster, who is hopeless at his job but has accepted that his remit is to do as the clubs tell him, said…

“It has been a bruising few weeks not just for myself but for everyone involved in Scottish football. No-one has enjoyed all of the division which has occurred over the last two months.

“But we made it clear we would respect the democratic process and result. The clubs gave a very clear message that they want all of our time and energy focussed on getting the game back to some semblance of normality, getting fans back in stadia as soon as is safely possible and to focus on savng the game.

“It’s vitally important to all of us that we use this resounding result to find reconciliation and to save the game that we all love.”

The Teflon coated SPFL boss survived the shenanigans of 2011-12, and looks like he’ll survive this as well.

In fairness, a full investigation could have gone back to those days of bullying and coercion, and that was probably what frightened not only Doncaster, but probably Peter Lawwell as well, who would also have found his coat on a shoogly peg, given the lie he told the Celtic AGM about who saw what emails and when…

Make no mistake, there is a need to investigate the SPFL and the SFA but this is not the time nor the reason, and any investigation should be all encompassing all the way back to the days of EBTs…

Perhaps the media will build on its new found enthusiasm for fair play and sporting integrity, but hopes are not high.

But the storm is over for now, and the next big chuckle should come when “rangers ” ask for help from the SPFL…meaning the other clubs…when it comes to , lets say, the last Thursday in June when all the deferred wages have to be paid…if they’re still around then, that is.

Incredibly, thirteen clubs voting for an investigation, not .as the media would have you believe a vote of no confidence in the SPFL, is a huge amount and demands action.

Thirteen points difference in the league, of course, is next to nothing….

Image

As expected, those who are tired of the whinging and a-wailing took time out to gloat about the result.

Radio Clyde, who broadcast the Superscoreboard phone in of an evening, held court to a number of distraught Ibrox fans, and more than one person heard their host claim that the defeat at the vote actually empowered “rangers “, though there was no explanation how…

One fan tried, giving a unique outlook on events…

Image

Image

Image

Well, when you put it like that…

Jim White, who has been known to favour the dark side of the city, added his overvalued tuppence worth…

Jim White
@JimWhite
Although clubs in Scotland have voted against

bid for investigation into

conduct regards vote to end lower league seasons, the feeling within the Ibrox club said to be “very positive and upbeat – there’s no sense of defeat.”

Thats because they knew they would lose, and it’s no real shock to them.
It was to Jim , though…

However, the economic effects down Govan way cannot be underestimated, and already there has been drastic action…

Image

You can’t blame them, some of the support have been embarrassing to say the least…

Still stuck in the late seventeenth century, they looked for ” escape goats “, and found what they needed on the board of Brechin city, who had spoken out against their crusade…

Image

Others in the support couldn’t quite spot a fake club twitter account, which isn;t surprising, as they have failed to spot a fake club for nearly a decade now…

Image

Fourteen points, which of course, would land the Ibrox company their first major trophy…

Image

Image

Image

We can reveal who was behind that account….

Image

It’s worth noting that “rangers ” released a statement after the votes were counted, and yet again, they proved that their self awareness is virtually non existent…

Image

And they should know all about a management culture that fears accountability and scrutiny….

Meanwhile, the other major protaganist in the fight against the SPFL was preparing to take the stand, largely because she forgot to order a seat…

Image

The media might well to choose to poke around in the debris of this particular issue, now that it’s all done and dusted.

They might be surprised at what they find, but one can only be sceptical of their desire to chase this story through to the bitter end.

In the meantime, the SFA have stayed absolutely quiet on the issue, which is what they do when their positions could be under threat, and for now, the power in Scottish football has shifted back to the clubs.

As for “rangers “, a charge of disrepute should be made, but the SFa won;t issue one, probably becuase the “rangers” will now move to even more desperate measures to survive and fight against the inevitable ten in a row.

So far, all of their plans have failed, and there is a fear that the next move may be even more disruptive and damaging to the game, since they have shown that they have no qualms about causing mayhem despite the extraordinary circumstances surrounding the sport, which will prompt the SFA to either subjugate themselves to the clubs, or attempt to strengthen their own position before the clubs finally wake up and decide they are not fit for purpose.

Yesterday was just the beginning of a period of massive change in Scottish football. One where the importance of four “Old firm ” games to the tv contracts, and therefore the survival of some clubs must be weighed against the integrity of the sport itself.

The first battle is over, but for now the ceasefire is only temporary.

On Monday, we had this…

Lets be honest, saying the SPFL is incompetent is a bit like making the observation that water is wet but fair play to The Ranjurs for providing so much entertainment in the absence of actual football.
Their call for better governance was similar to when they tried to label everyone racist after their own racists fans were called out by UEFA. No shame whatsoever and always looking to bring down as many as they can with them.
Also, absolutely loving that so many of the Ranjurs fans who have recently been spouting “Brexit means Brexit” and “The independence vote was once in a generation” are now decrying a voting system where they lost by a considerable margin. Keep the laughs coming lol!

Huge victory for Gerry and the Republican interned today.
Thanks to the Irish republican news for this.
Convictions against Gerry Adams dating from the 1970s have been overturned by the Supreme Court in London in a judgement which could have consequences for many others who were interned without trial.

The convictions against the former Sinn Fein leader for attempting to escape from the internment camps of Long Kesh in the 1970s were overturned when Britain’s highest court ruled his detention was unlawful.

Like many others, Mr Adams had been summarily interned without his case being “personally considered” by a senior government minister, a legal requirement for the process under the legislation.

He twice attempted to escape from the internment camp, in December 1973 and in July 1974, two offences for which he was found ‘guilty’ and sentenced to a total of four-and-a-half years in 1975. The convictions were later used to deny Mr Adams entry to the United States.

His two convictions for escape were today ruled to have been “unsafe” by the Supreme Court, as his detention by interim custody order (ICO) was itself found to be invalid.

At a hearing in November, Mr Adams’s lawyers successfully argued that, because the ICO used to initially detain him in July 1973 was not authorised by the then British Direct Ruler Willie Whitelaw, his detention was unlawful and his convictions should be overturned.

Announcing the Supreme Court’s judgment at a remote hearing on Wednesday, Lord Kerr said the court had unanimously allowed Mr Adams’s appeal and had quashed his convictions.

The judge said Mr Adams’s detention was unlawful because it had not been “considered personally” by Mr Whitelaw.

Lord Kerr said: “The making of the ICO in respect of the appellant was invalid since the secretary of state had not himself considered it.

“In consequence, Mr Adams’ detention was unlawful, hence his convictions of attempting to escape from lawful custody were, likewise, unlawful.”

Lord Kerr added: “The appeal is therefore allowed and his convictions are quashed.”

The judge explained that Mr Adams had been detained under an ICO made under the “Detention of Terrorists (Northern Ireland) Order 1972” and that “such an order could be made where the secretary of state considered that an individual was involved in terrorism”.

In the court’s written judgment, Lord Kerr said the power to make such an order was “a momentous one”, describing it as “a power to detain without trial and potentially for a limitless period”.

He said the clear intent of the law was that such a crucial decision should be made by a senior Minister.

In a statement after the ruling, Mr Adams welcomed the judgement, and said the knowledge of his unlawful detention had been known “at the most senior level of the British system”.

He called for the lawfulness of the internment of all of those held in the 1970s to be addressed.

He said: “I want to thank my legal team Seamus Collins, PJ McGrory & Co Solicitors, Sean Doran SC and Donal Sayers for their diligence in pursuing this case over the last decade.

“I also want to commend and thank the Pat Finucane Centre which in October 2009 uncovered communications from July 1974. The then Director of Public Prosecutions had provided a memorandum to the British Attorney General that ‘I (and other detainees) held under orders which have not been signed by the Secretary of State himself may be unlawfully detained.’ This was prior to the institution of proceedings against me in March 1975 in respect of the December 1973 incident.

“Subsequently, I understand that on 17 July 1974 this issue was discussed by the British Attorney General with the British Prime Minister Harold Wilson, so the knowledge of my unlawful detention was known at the most senior level of the British system.

“Of course internment, later described as detention by the British, was never lawful. In fact it set aside the normal principles of law and was based on a blunt and brutal piece of coercive legislation.

“I have no regrets about my imprisonment except for the time I was separated from my family. However, we were not on our own. It is believed that around two thousand men and women were interned during its four and a half years of operation.

“I consider my time in the Prison Ship Maidstone, in Belfast prison and in Long Kesh to have been in the company of many remarkable, resilient and inspiring people.

“Internment like all coercive measures failed.

“There is an onus on the British government to identify and inform other internees whose Internment may also have been unlawful.”

Brilliant Jimmy. All these things need to be aired so that we see the UK Government for what it truly is; just another repressive shower. It’s now being run like a Banana Republic WRT the safety and wellbeing of thousands in the front line of Covid 19 and all they spout is lie after lie about how well they’re doing.
Scumbags, just like the huns!

We’ll all be getting sent back to work soon as well because the “economy” is seen as more important than concerns about our health or mortality. And concerns about employers’ observation of H&S recommendations – no mandatory you’ll notice, just “suggested” – or provision of appropriate PPE won’t justify walking off the job. So you’ll have the choice between possible exposure to the virus or going home and “self-disqualifying” from any welfare benefits. We’re all in this together but.

From BBC Sevco:

–Scottish football is not facing a “doomsday scenario” but it is “probably inevitable” that some clubs will face insolvency, according to a new report.

The eighth annual Football Distress Report said none of the 42 SPFL clubs showed “symptoms of financial distress” before the end of March.–

Think we can put that new report in the bin without reading it as clearly the don’t deduct Sevco The Rangers* any points for insolvency campaign is now fully underway……..

Can we expect a statement from Stenhousemuir shortly ?

Fingers crossed ICT go to the wall. Not really sure what the point of a club without any supporters actually is. Ross County are much better anyway.

“No-one has enjoyed all of the division which has occurred over the last two months.”

Almost no-one Kryton, almost. One party has achieved exactly what they set out to do by sowing the seeds of this division. Alas, for them and some Johnny come lately acolytes, they failed to reap the harvest they had hoped for.

Concerning Durrant. The best “do you know who I am?” story I know is the one where John Lennon was having a wild batchelor weekend during a rough patch in his marriage. He was drunk or high dancing on a table in a restaurant. When challenged he asked the waitress “Do you know who I am?” “Yeah, she said, “you’re some drunk asshole dancing on a table with a lampshade on his head…” Maybe we could track her down to run the SPFL?

Oh how they celebrated August at Kilmarnock a late winner sent them jumping on top of the handicapped. Then december a victory at celtic park they thought yes this was the end of Celtic dominance.
Back from Dubai the bhoys charged and the wheels came off the sevco bus. Lost to the bottom 2 clubs in the league, put out the cup by Hearts and Celtic 13 points clear and ready to wipe the floor with them in the next match.
Then a pandemic hits and peoples way of lives have to change.
Families apart and you cant meet up with friends. Workers laid off, schools closed and panic buying in the high street, whilst our front line nhs and care staff battle on the front line trying to save life.
Through all of this an obscene opportunity is seen to make all the leagues null and void.
A call which would have seen the end of football clubs across the country for what?
A club so steeped in bigotry it couldn’t face up to the fact that they were second best.
They tried to kill off Scottish football rather than accept the democratic right of the football clubs across the country.
The once all powerful established club now realise that they have not as many friends they once had, that could look the other way or delay signed contracts in office.
The power has shifted Glasgow is Green and White.

Great post Jimmibee, and the previous one as well. Boot needs held firmly to the throat of the Klan and the Klan’s Klub. Scotland will never be free until the last Minister is strangled by the last copy of The Sunday Post (or Herald or Record or Scotsman or Sunday Mail)
While we are at it, lets shine the light on the bowling clubs, golf clubs (yes you Drumpellier and Airdrie), football clubs and all the other last bastions of WATP and the bigoted ascendancy. Hopefully, our day is coming, and sooner than we’d hoped.

Congratulations to the Morelos family on their new child. I understand there were complications when the wean slapped the midwife, threw itself to the ground and started screaming at the obstetrician but it recovered quickly and was seen to make friendly gestures to hospital staff as it discharged itself against medical advice.
