Celtic Diary January 2: Fake News And False Claims

It’s been four days since the Celtic “rangers” game.

All sorts of stories have been flying around about who did what to who, who called who what, who is in hospital and who has sodded off to Colombia out of the way.

There doesn’t seem to be any evidence to support any of them, except for the threatening gesture made by Alfredo Morelos, and since we have seen how easy it is to manipulate opinion in the mainstream media, it’s not too big a leap to wonder if social media can be equally manipulated to form opinion.

Or to distract from the real issue.

Lets try to work our way through it all and see what we can ascertain as to what is truth and what is nonsense.

As anyone and everyone knows, there is a problem with racist and bigoted chanting and singing at Ibrox, home of the second Rangers entity, and they have been in trouble with the European governing body over it. In Scotland, of course, the authorities not only accept it but are happy to market the hatred that oozes down from the stands, and it would certainly be more marketable if the hatred was reciprocated at Celtic Park.

It would also be helpful if racism could be shown to have eminated from the stands at a point when one of the “rangers ” players made a gesture to supporters that yet again shows that the man is somewhat lacking in the maturity to perform professional sports at this level, and therefore his market value would markedly decrease, at a time when his club could really use the money from his sale.

So what better than to have an organisation also claiming that there was racism at Celtic Park…

Image

The Associated Press, remember , was the source of the report about the abuse John Beaton received after a Celtic “rangers ” game, which grew into death threats and meant that Beaton needed police protection, when it would transpire later that someone had merely called him a cheating bastard by text.

Now watch the story grow…

Image

Two reports that say “rangers ” claim he was abused…and then, from the easily influenced BBC, where it is known that having a blue nose will help one with one’s career prospects… check their “expert  ” panels if you’re not convinced by this…

Image

Now it’s accepted that there were racist chants, and the police are looking into them..

See how it works ?

There is no evidence of any racist chants, we can be sure of this because its been four days now, and nothing has surfaced.

There is, however, video evidence of Alfredo Morelos drawing his finger across his throat in a such a way that the gesture  can only be interpreted as meaning he wants to cut someones throat, presumably the fans of Celtic he made the gesture at.

Anything else on this matter is a deflection, as this gesture is one that will get a player banned.

As for that claim that in south america it means something else, let’s see what North america thinks…

Image

Image

Image

That is that, then.

It depicts an unacceptable act of violence.

For which Morelas could and should be banned.

So anything other than discussion of his act is merely deflection, especially as there is no evidence to suggest otherwise, despite what some outlets are claiming.

Outlets who are clearly under instruction not to discuss the Morelas gesture whatsoever.

This is -again-a major failure on the part of the PR machine at Celtic. Whilst they may have opted not to get involved, for whatever reason, that decision has now led to Celtic having their brand tarnished with claims of racism, that will elevate to an instance of racism, presumably on the same balance of probabilities that saw Aleksandr Tonev punished.

Celtic have not commented on the actions of a player who clearly made an unacceptable gesture at their support, and in doing so may have committed an action likely to cause a breach of the peace, which was what the charge was against Frank McAvennie and three Rangers players some years ago.

A failure to comment may be because they don;t want to inflame an already inflammable situation, but when the image of the club is at stake, they should really try to steer discussion back the real events, and not thise that are perceived by a PR machine acting for another club.

As for the mainstream media, they have form for not reporting anything that will damage the “rangers ” brand, and they are too afraid of litigation to print anything about the other stories which are flying around, which might well mean theres nothing in them either, but they do serve as a distraction.

Lets suppose that a PR machine planted all of those rumours about fights, emergency surgery and other nonsense, because after four days of trying, all I can definitely ascertain is that Christie has had surgery, and is in a bad way.

There are plenty of whatsapps doing the rounds, but anyone with any sense has held back and tried to find out what actually has happened.

Image result for never trust quotes on the internet abraham lincoln

There is no reason to believe anything on social media any more than there is a reason to believe the mainstream media.

At the moment, it seems that there is a lot of deflection around the only thing that we can say with any certainty has happened, and no one seems to want to talk about that in the media.

Could it be because there were clubs willing to take a gamble on the tortured soul that is Alfredo Morelos, and his actions on sunday are causing them to have second thoughts, at least at the price “rangers ” are asking ?

Time will tell.

All I can tell at this point is that Celtic really need to come out and clarify what exactly happened, of anything , regarding Ryan Christie, and also to comment on the allegations of racism, perhaps challenging someone to provide evidence.

Yesterday, we had this…

There is many different ways of waging a P.R. war in football, the most important way to win it, is to win it on the pitch, if Celtic had won the last game, the P.R. war would have been won by Celtic, because they (the Huns) would not have anything positive to say.

Who will win this seasons League title? a new club only 8 years old that are over £25.00 million in debt, OR
A club with 132 years of unbroken history, with over £40.00 million pounds (at least) in the bank.

Should there even be any kind of argument, it should be a given. The answer lies on the pitch, its worked for the past 8 years. Make the new signings count and win the P.R. war, that will shut them up, till next year.

They had the chance to win it on the pitch only a few days ago and failed dramatically, so it certainly isn’t going to be easy winning it there in a the near future no matter who is signed.

They have shown fear, terror even, since they were ragdolled under Rodgers, one of the reasons he absconded, and that fear could/will cost them the league.

Their Europa League run has helped to paper over the cracks but the cracks always eventually come through the paper.

Time, maybe, for the plywood over them.

Rodgers now mixes it with Klopp, Pep etc but “absconded” due to being “ragdolled” by Slippy.

Laughable from the Laptop Loyal but on a Celtic forum, incredible.

We have won this seasons league cup, three in a row we have won all the Leagues and trophies. So if we are being rag-dolled by the Huns it means SFA. So what has this amazing ragdolling team won in its seven year history?
The Petrofac Cup? amazing.
So nothing lost yet and everything still to play for.
Three new ready to go players making up the spine of the team and on we go, to 9 INAR.

Do you actually think before you post?

You constantly bang on about Rodgers, whilst ignoring any failings of the current manager.

That’s what’s important; how poor we were on Sunday, with no lessons being learnt from the previous game a mere 3 weeks before.

The Huns are now in pole position and that is, or should be, the concern of Celtic fans, not deflecting away from it.

Oh dear.

We’ve just come off a terrible result and performance, which puts the Huns in pole position for the league and all you can do is take a pot at Rodgers.

Yep, there’s your narcissism right there.

Of course, not a single critical comment against a manager who’s been schooled for the 2nd time in 3 weeks and was totally clueless to making in-game changes.

That’s what I’m interested in and that’s the only important issue and not any pathetic deflection from a Lenny fanny bhoy/

Moyes also mixes with them. That doesn’t make him equal to them.

Is the truth as alien on a Celtic forum as a r4nge@s one. Incredible? for simply stating facts.

On second thoughts, Rodgers “ragdolled”
himself. Johnson as a striker and McGregor at left back.

Mike

Reply to  Cole Burns

The facts according to you, there are many ways of stating facts. Moyes has been out of the game for years, he is a desperate appointment. There are many truths, but you choose to go with your negative truth, which says much about you. The truth is on the board room in the SFA. it states who won what over the past dozen years. The truth is Slippy is a novice manager who’s team died in 2012 and who are up to their neck in debt, their desperation leads them to spend other peoples money again, but have won SFA. THAT is the truth.
Rodgers has taken Leicester to a new level (second) in the big spending EPL. THAT is the truth.

s the truth. I am not the type of person who lets hatred get in the way of the truth. As I said before: FACTS, they are always true, especially the ones we saw at Celtic Park on Sunday. You could throw in a few other grounds in Scotland this season where it was just as dire.

Lawwell, Lennon, Desmond and the Aberdeen fans love sheep like you, so keep up the good work, if only for their sakes.

“Facts they are always true, especially the ones we saw at Celtic Park on Sunday” so what makes that fact any truer than any other FACTS? Is it because that fact makes you happier than the fact that Celtic won in Govan, did you forget that fact because it suited your agenda? Because the fact is you are a moaner not a supporter, just someone who likes to vent his spleen. One defeat in eleven games, moan, moan, moan.

You’re out your depth again and you probably paddle in the shallow end. The last four years of facts if we are talking football show Celtic as far and away better than any other team in Scotland. One win in one game doesn’t win the league. Lots of time to go. Let’s check the facts at the end of the season

Remind me what happened at Ibrox in the league? Who had the upper hand there? So, there have been three Celtic vs Sevco games this season so far and the results were? Let me help, Ragdolls 2 Sevco 1.

The score on aggregate is? Here is some more help Ragdolls 4 Sevco 2.

You won at Celtic park, good for you. Let’s settle up at the end of the season, but I shall give you that it will be closer than it should be.

Folks we lost one game. We played very poorly and a team that is more plucky than good wanted it more than we did. Panic has set in and we are much better than that. ‘Rangers’ has to win a game at some point at Celtic Park. Maybe that’s the last one for another 9 years I hope so. Point is that as always we are all over reacting beyond the need.

Reply to  BroxburnBhoy

Maybe but Sunday showed we’d learnt nothing from 3 weeks before and that’s a big worry, as is the manager’s inability to change things in-game.

The problem is that when we were playing well earlier in the season it was being hailed as the best football we’d played in years.

It was as if O’Neill had replaced Barnes and not the Treble Treble years, Invincibility and 69 game unbeaten run.

It’s just the way of it and I don’t think you’ll stop the hyperbole on either side.

I’ve been living in South America for 22 years, seen loads of South American football matches on TV…and I’ve never seen Morelos’s so-called “common gesture” done by other players.
It’s a totally fabricated lie created by “rangers” and transmitted by their lackies in the Scottish press, TV and radio.
This is a critical time for the board of Celtic FC to show some balls and not just defend the fans and players, but also attack those who are staining the good image of our club. If they don’t act now then they never will. I sincerely hope that behind the scenes they have already started legal action against all the scum who are helping to spread this fake news.
A club infamous for calling its fans’ hatred of anything Irish/Catholic “our tradition”, takes the moral high ground with lies that their player has been racially abused. It would be funny if it wasn’t so sick.

If there was anything in the Christie rumours, it’d have come out by now. I suppose it’s possible, but it’s all a bit tin foil hat.

As for the state we’re in, the worrying part is not acting on the warnings we had in the lead up to the game. Lots of talk about the final, but the more worrying one was the Jambos – they bossed the first half hour doing almost exactly what sevco did on Sunday. Once they got the ball, they used it like a team that was bottom of the table, but the point is they controlled the game with exactly the same tactics.

Gerrard mustn’t have been able to believe his luck when we didn’t have any plan for what was obviously going to happen, given that it’d happened twice in the past 3 weeks.

This ‘one game’ thing isn’t true – that’s been coming. They’re not as good as us man-for-man, but we’re not far enough ahead anymore that we can just turn up and expect to win. Our tactics made good players (Forrest, Christie, Edouard) look clueless.

So, I’m an optimist, but I’m not stupid.
Celtic have around £40.00 million pounds in the bank, its my opinion that we still need three players down the spine of the team. And the three players need to be good to go near from the start of the second period in January, a centre-back so that Lenny can go with three at the back, a strong midfielder and a striker to help Odsonne. None of the three needs to be projects for the future. If one is only a loan then so be it, but only one. Of the £40.00 million pounds we only need to spend half of that or less to bring in the three new players. Failure to do so, puts title number 9 at risk, giving that the Huns have the advantage in games to come. If we did not succeed in title number 9, then that would have serious repercussions for the board, Lawwell in particular, giving where we are financially compared to them. So the coming 2-3 weeks will give us an indication of how it will be, we must make them count.

Sevco, a rancid club filled up to the brim with racists and bigots, players who are a dirty shower of f!ckwits, led by deniers and the main stream Scottish media, filled with deniers and liars. Who would want to play against scum like that? Once upon a time when I was young they only signed non- Catholic’s, but make no mistake they were as scummy then as they are now, if you read “Tangled Up In Blue” you realise just how they started up in the same mode, by cheating and doing everything to gain any kind of advantage. This new club is worse, desperate to win at any price, but they need to be answered, not just on the pitch, but in the press and in everyway that we can. The other Scottish clubs have sold their soul to the bigot blue pound. The Scottish governing bodies are a disgrace, but that is nothing new, that has been going on for decades, their preference for the dead club is as sickening as their lies and denial. But what about our board, where are the defenders of our club? why are they silent, they too are a disgrace, its time to call them out.

Devoy45

Our club needs to defend its integrity by going on the offensive. Lenny needs to call out the officials and also put Gerrard in his place by exposing Slippy’s lies. Also, Gerrard should be disciplined by the league for his incredible comments. January window:
Straight deal, Benkovic for Sinclair.
Wanyama on Loan: salary to be subsidised by Dermot.
A proven striker on loan from a big club like PSG.
Play two up front so that Edouard can no longer be surrounded and isolated. Until the split, Sevco plays 8 of 13 at home. Tough away only to Hearts and Killie. Meanwhil we are away to Killie/Motherwell/Aberdeen/Livvie/Sevco/Hibs !!!! We better be on our game!
