Celtic Diary Wednesday July 17: SMSM Caught Out Again

Neil Lennon gave a long and revealing interview yesterday as the players geared up for tonights return champions League qualifier against Sarajevo.

One of the things that no one seems to have picked up on is that he said there have only been two bids for Keiran Tierney.

“There has been a second bid, the bid has been rejected and it’s as you were.

Yet from Saturday onwards, based largely on a “Sky Sports Understands “tweet, there had been a third one and it had matched the valuation, which then led to opinion pieces and so on…despite the story now being revealed as nit true.

But we already knew that this was how it works, right ?

The manager continued to play hardball..

He’s a great player and a great talent. He’s just 22 years old and has so much more to give to the game.

“It doesn’t surprise me that there are potential suitors. It’s a compliment for all the work he’s done over the years.

“He’s got a long term contract and we don’t want him to go.”

As we said at the weekend, nothing has changed.

Though the Record seemed to want to believe things have.. they took a different angle..

Neil Lennon in Kieran Tierney Celtic admission as Hoops boss outlines the appeal of a fresh challenge

Lennon concedes some fans will never be able to understand why any player living the dream would see the grass being greener elsewhere.

He said, which kind of leads into a different narrative,

“Some Celtic fans are tunnel visioned and I get that but no matter where Kieran goes, he will still be a Celtic supporter.

“Sometimes you get to a point in your career where you don’t want to go – and I am maybe using the wrong word here – stale.

“You want a different
environment or a different
challenge. That’s understandable. I left Leicester who were in the Premier League but I wanted to come and play for Celtic.

“I wanted that option and to see how far I could take it.

“Players are competitors. Yes, financially it’s rewarding but they see the competitive side as well.

“It was a wrench for Aiden McGeady to leave but it was life-changing in terms of the finances where he was concerned and again he saw it as a challenge.

“Ronaldo left Man United and they’re the biggest club in the world. So sometimes these things happen.

“From a business point of view it may be
substantial for the club but from a footballing point of view
long-term it may be

detrimental to us. But we are talking about things
hypothetically here. It hasn’t come to that end game yet.

“We don’t have to sell. We don’t want to sell. But sometimes players leave, even big players.”

The club have not accepted a bid, but lets talk about why the player wants to move, which either means that its common knowledge he wants a move, or it means the media want him to have one.

It’s probably a bit of both.

But whatever it is, we won’t find out anything like the truth from the mainstream.

Celtic will be without Chrstopher Jullien tonight, who isn’t properly match fit , whilst Mikey Johnston, Maryan Shved and Vakoun Bayo are injured.

Bayo was the talk of the steamie yesterday when it was revealed he gave Kouassi Eboue a haircut, and given his injury record, there was much relief when he didn’t fall over and somehow stab himself with the sharpened blades.

Well, it keeps them occupied. Back in the day, players would spend their spare time drinking and chasing women, and one wonders when it all started to go wrong..

Should Celtic, as expected, survive the Sarjevo test tonight, and at 3-1 up, it does seem more likely than not, they will face Nomme Kalju, of Estonia in the next round.

Poor Chris Jack, he couldn’t even pick the right manager to make up quotes from.

Jack famously invented quotes from the manager of losing side Shkendija, but since the Scottish mainstream media is not noted for its high journalistic standards, will remain unpunished, despite Neil Cameron, the somewhat unbalanced top man at the Herald Group, leaping to his defence..

We await the disciplinary process investigating Jack, who of course, weakly blamed a freelancer for hacking his phone or something.

There’s one possible piece of transfer news… though not from any of our elite investigation unit..

Well, today is Wednesday….

There was also a wee bit of good news of the kind that perhaps makes you think the club must be doing simething right, grudgingly reported by the Record…

Celtic named in top 60 of Deloitte’s list of richest clubs

The Parkhead club’s revenue of £52million from last season ensured they still remained a long way from English sides.

The report then goes on to list the English sides , but doesn’t actually tell the reader where Celtic are ranked..as presumably the red mist in front of the reporters eyes prevented him from reading it properly.

Celtic have been named one of the top 60 clubs in Football’s Money League.

Celtic‘s revenue of £52million from last season – an increase of 2% from the previous year – saw them behind England’s big guns on Deloitte’s list of the richest clubs.

But they could rise higher in next year’s table – topped by Manchester United – after securing Champions League football again this season.

United’s whopping £515.3m revenue for 2015-16 – the highest ever recorded by a club – saw them reclaim No.1 spot from Real Madrid who fell behind Barcelona in second place despite also making £464m.

The huge Premier League TV deal ensured eight clubs, including Man City (5th), Arsenal (7th), Chelsea (8th), Liverpool (9th), Spurs (12th), West Ham (18th) and Leicester (20th) made the top 20.

Guess what ?

The papers reckon we’ve got a title race on our hands this season…the Rangers are coming…

Well, it’s that time of year. all that marching in the hot sun  must have fried their heads.

We’ve waited a while for this moment, is it finally here ? Or do we have to wait a little longer ?

Recent “rangers ” signing, Swede  Filip Helander, who joined for an undisclosed fee from Bologna, is the latest superstar who is here to take our trophies..and according to Robert Prytz, another Swede, he’s the real deal..

ROBERT PRYTZ says Rangers have signed a Virgil van Dijk carbon copy in his countryman Filip Helander.

Image result for virgil van dijk

Helander introduced to Rangers fans at Ibrox

Oh, he’s right. Look, they are both clapping.

The Swedish stopper – who comes from Malmo, Prytz’s home town — arrived last week in a £3.5million deal to join the Light Blues from Serie A side Bologna.

“I’m really pleased Helander has joined Rangers. I think it’s a move that will benefit all parties.

“He’d fallen out of the Bologna team in the second half of last season but he’s a good ball-playing central defender.

He claps, and when he’s not doing that, he plays with his balls.

He’s more like Virgil van Dijk in the way he wants to pass the ball — but he’s strong and tall enough to dominate if his team is defending.

“He was regularly involved with the Swedish national team and was picked for the 2018 World Cup squad. And he’s kept his place in the national team even though he wasn’t playing regularly.

“But that will be another reason he’ll have wanted the move to Scotland — because if he’s playing regularly for Rangers he’ll stay involved with the national team.

Indeed, its done wonders for Alfredo Morelas’s international career.

And if you thought that piece was a little odd, be prepared to be launched into the surreal world of Keith Jackson at the Record..

Hmm, you cannot argue with such insight…

We really shouldn’t laugh.

No, Chris, we shouldn’t.

The new club have had their problems, exacerbated by their incapability to manage their own retail operation, which was reduced to street vendor level last weekend..

If that wasn’t embarrassing enough, there was the Times reminding them that they are a new club after all…

Of course, thats nothing compared to the reminder they’ll get later this week when St Josephs complain to UEFA that Alan MacGregor is an improperly registered player.

We hear, but not from anyone with any credibility, that they are waiting until after the second leg before complaining, which guarantees them a 6-0 aggregate victory.

MacGregor, of course, is the only player listed in their squad as being at the club from the ages of 15-21, when he was at the original club.

He knows that, as he refused to transfer his employment over to the new Ibrox entity, and along with Steven Davis, exited stage left..claiming they owed no loyalty to Charles Green and his Basket of Assets, which would make a great name for a band.

Meanwhile, it’s getting harder and harder to spot a decent politician these days..

The far right is trying to reclaim a lost empire, and will trumpet any possible angle to justify its white supremacist mindset..

Donald Trump, the five year old in charge of the United States, has again allowed his white supremacy ideals to leak out of his mouth…

….and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how….

Nicola Sturgeon, the Scottish first minister was quick to condemn…

Nicola Sturgeon Retweeted Donald J. Trump

The President of the United States telling elected politicians – or any other Americans for that matter – to ‘go back’ to other countries is not OK, and diplomatic politeness should not stop us saying so, loudly and clearly.

However, her silence on a similar matter implies that she thinks it perfectly okay for some to make that very proclamation, set to music, on the streets of Scotland..

Image result for orange walk glasgow

It may have taken a while, but perhaps they have realised its time to join the rest of us in the 21st century.

On Sunday, it seems so long ago, we had this image to fire our imagination..

I often wonder why talented players want to leave the club they profess to love. I often thought why does the club not offer the player a bonus similar to the transfer fee that it would cost them to bring in a new player. So its to play against better competition then, that explains it, its not about the money then…
The Huns went belly up in 2012 after cheating us out of the C.L. qualifiers, Res.12 was brought up at the 2013 AGM in November. It took Auldheid until after the trials in 2017 to finally get the proof of collusion and cheating. Correct me if I’m wrong, in 2013 the share price rose from 56 pence to 76.5 pence and our club’s value rocketed to £95.7 million pounds on the realisation that celtic had free reign into the C.L. qualifiers. And that is why with fiscal prudence the shares are where they are at just now 160 pence. As someone who has backed Res.12 throughout and who more than anything wants to get the titles and trophies back, I see the correlation between continued success and the increased value of the club. For that to continue we need continued success on the park, does anyone else see that??

They had a marvellous time, her first concert with her “Gene Simmons” face painted, on Face-book it has had many many hits from as far afield as Mexico, Germany, America, all over the world, it took two hours to get her face painted and two get it off, still no up yet though. 😉

The media coverage has been Hun-believable lately. Another title won in July seemingly and I still haven’t read or watched any tributes to the Treble Treble champions.

I saw a headline the other day along the lines of Rangers beat Marseille and Celtic only drew against Renne so rangers are favourites to win the league. Would that be the same Marseille that lost to Accrington Stanley a couple of days earlier!

I hope Celtic fans don’t click on articles by the well known laptop loyal.

Anyway rant over. Surely Wolves aren’t buying Jack Hendry??

That’s a bit harsh on the Orange Order,

They guys never shout out Go Home, or sing The Famine Song.

Its the bands that are hired that play the party tunes and its the members of the public that chant such slogans….you cant just go ahead and put 2 and 2 together and blame the Orange Order just cause members of the public keep wanting to see them march on the streets now!

What will you want next, allow them to march as per their legal right but now allow any bands to be allowed unless they are officially Orange order affiliated and legally the responsibility of the orange order and their marching request.

Shame on you sir!

Half of the sodjers in Billy’s Barmy Army were Catholic at the battle of the Boyne on the first of July 1690, jeez, we even contributed a half of the monies raised to provide his barmy army.

In return, they come out in their thousands every single year to thank us, by playing outside our chapels, singing, dancing and playing loony tunes, what’s not to like..

History is not their strongest point, its the uniforms they like.
I read a post on facebook from a bloke taking part in a gay pride march (same thing only different more attractive colours) he liked their songs and their telly-tubby’s hip swivel walk, mibbee he thought they could all combine and make up a musical, “Its good to be gay, proud and loud”. Since 2000 what has the cost to Celtic been to assure a crack at the CL?

What other Nelson’s eye was used by SFA licencing Commitee to grant RFC a licence? Did the way the use of ebts was reported in their annual accounts comply with a “fair presentation” requirement in UEFA FFP?

Then from 2008 when ebts bills dropped through the letterbox and RFC appealed, were SFA/UEFA informed of the details of all the players that HMRC were seeking repayment on behalf of?

That again is a UEFA requirement but if it was met why did SFA not start asking questions about the registrations placed with them? Snooker.

The point though is that there is a cost to Celtic of their cheating although one might argue it meant we had to spend to match and that gave us MoN but was unsustainable.

To accepts such costs there has to be benefits and in any cost/benefit analysis one is normally weighed against the other.

What RFC cost Celtic in the season they went bust is not known but PL has been quoted as saying £10m.

However what other costs long term should be added in order to inform decisions on whether the benefits are worth it?

Another name for a cost benefit analysis is an Investment Appraisal and any well run business should have one to help inform policies.

As shareholders is there any pressing reason why, if one exists, it cannot be shared with them to help inform them of what is right or necessary in the circumstances?

If one doesnt exist then why not? It is standard industry practice although as we all know football is nothing like a standard industry.

Finally UEFA licencing is key to the fortunes of both clubs, but Res12 has shown the process is as good as a chocolate lifeguard if an applicant club lies or its application is not scrutinised with due diligence by SFA.

As shareholders we need assurances that what happened in 2011 cannot be repeated and yet the SFA are stalling on investigatng the very process that will tell us what safeguards are required.

For a Celtic Board not to seek assurances that there can be no repeat of 2011 they are confident they can pass on to shareholders is a dereliction of duty they would have to explain at for example an AGM…..

Auldheid I have replied to you on Sentinel Celts.

My question was about bringing in new players for continued success but monetary values should never be the question in sport, all sports should be honest and transparent, that should be put before everything, nothing else should come into it. Not the share price which is irrelevant to the many, just to the few…only the right governance, that is what is the most important.

Five: Yes, there was a huge cost, paid for by the Celtic support.
Six: The benefit was Seville and to the lift that the support enjoyed.
Seven: Only P.L. knows why he would say that.
Eight: The share price and the clubs value rocketed.
Nine: Is there a reason for them to share this? unless to hide it.
Ten: Football has always had its share of shady dealers, everywhere.
Eleven: Football/sport is only as honest as its governance.
Twelve: We need to apply more pressure.

Posts are read by many so whilst I was addressing the question to your post, it was meant for the wider readership to get folk thinking about the current model that caters for rivals prepared to circumvent the FFP rules Celtic abide by.

One of the costs to Celtic was having to match ebt fueled wages paid by RFC.

When RFC embarked on 3iar from 2009 the were helped by purchase of Mendez,Davis and Papac using ebts. Celtic meanwhile couldnt afford Stephen Fletcher, whose purchase might have made a difference in the run in.

I wasnt disputing anything in your original post, I was linking the cost of buying players to get into Europe to my overall point, that having a rival club prepared to break the rules increases the cost to Celtic of staying on top.

Hope that clarifies and I’ll copy paste to SC when on PC.

Auldheid: Thanks for your reply and for your explanation. I thought that perhaps I had said something to upset you and that is the last thing that I want to do.
As I recall the “Little General” was spending money like a drunken sailor, some of the players that he brought in were extremely expensive and now we know how they were paid. The “Billionaire” brought in MON, presumably to burst Advocat’s bubble and an arms race began. And now its my understanding (thanks to you) that EBT’s were a large contributing factor in giving them a big playing advantage. What sickened me most about all of this was that it was the support who were left to pay the approaching £40.00 mill. bill, not the Billionaire who had authorised the spending and player austerity began. Thanks also for C@ Pasting, its important to me that I am as open as I can be… FFP is the most pressing and depressing feature that should be at the heart of football governance, for it not to be is absolutely disgusting and the major reason along with the titles being stripped for backing Res. 12.

Great to have the ‘proper’ football back tonight. I missed last week’s game but enjoyed the result. The friendlies were, as ever, a horror show for the supporters; just about preparation and fitness so best avoided really.
Thanks to Ralph for the Sunday Times excerpt re the new club. I’ve copied it and will forward it to everyone I can think of who loves the Celtic and the Truth, and hates the scum, old AND new.
I’ve a few shares which were bought via a broker who has them held in Trust. I’ll find out how to free them so that they can join with Res 12’s efforts to make the cheats in our game accountable, entirely regardless of whom those cheats are, all of them without fear or favour.

Gone was the club that the Huns loved so well
There was many a sad Hun in Govan that morning

Well done lads – job done, one down three to go and more football to look forward to in the CL at CP next week. Decent, solid team performance for the most part with everyone putting in a good shift. Still a bit rusty at times with the odd defensive mistake creeping in but there are some good signs as well. The players looked a bit sharper and quite a lot of chances were created. We could have easily scored two or three more but pretty happy overall. Looking forward to the next one already and with a bit of luck a new quality RB will be in place by then.

Hi CS, their keeper did more than a decent job and helped keep the score down. I wouldn’t classify any of his saves tonight as world class but he was pretty steady and competent throughout.

Mbombo produced a bit of a mixed bag tonight. Very much a one-footed player, he still looked very handy going forward, linking up well and getting into good positions. Defensively he likes to get involved and produced a couple of good stops but was sometimes caught out of position. When he made that nasty mistake leading to the Sarajevo goal he wasn’t under great pressure when in possession but inexplicably used his weak right foot to make that poor out pass. My overall feeling is that he will improve a lot as he settles in.

Tonight’s game, although far from great, was hell of a lot better than some of the dross served up towards the end of last season. Once our defence has been sorted and provided Calmac and Christie can stay mostly injury free, I think good times lie ahead for the oncoming season.

TicToc

Well it’s job done tonight, first and foremost. Not a great spectacle but it’s still really FN pre-season for MOST clubs.
I see Boli was getting some shit on Twitter. Can’t believe it. Okay, his mistake led to their goal but he covered some ground tonight and like most out there they’re just trying to get their rythm. FFS, he’s only just joined us. For me he was as good as anyone out there tonight.
On another note, if Shkendija (or whoever TF they are) get dropped into the Europa and the new huns don’t get chucked out for more cheating, the two could meet maybe? The arsehole Chris Jack at The Ibrox Evening Times as Ralph ‘christened’ that rag, will probably claim it was a ‘premonition’ that came to him direct from god in a dream, and he just got a bit confused with it all. Tosser.
Anyway, that’s the 1st qualifier successfully negotiated and we’ll hopefully have our new CB fit and ready for the next one. We’ve much to be happy about because we’ve a wealth of talent in our squad already and maybe more to come.

Poor of them, really poor. But as you said, nice to see Linfield’s early humiliation and Dundalk (of whom I know little) go through. I’ll be rooting for Cliftonville on Thursday and for Saint Joseph’s (primary? secondary?) to call that scum out for cheating. Now THAT would be some RESULT and absolutely deserved too!

☘️ IRELAND: July 1848 – Young Ireland rising

During the trial the Presiding Judge read out the names of the condemned men.
Charles Gavin Duffy. Thomas Francis Meagher. Patrick Donoghue. Terence ManManus. Richard O’Gorman. Morris Lyene. Michael Ireland. Thomas Darcy McGee and John Mitchell.
“Have you anything to say before the court passes sentence?” he asked.
Thomas Meagher had been chosen to speak for them all and he responded …
“My Lord, this is our first offence, but not our last, if you will be easy with us this once we promise, on our word as Gentlemen, to do better the nest time … and the next, sure we won’t be fools enough to get caught”
The indignant Judge sentenced them to be hanged by the neck but passionate protests from all over the world forced Queen Victoria to commute their sentences and the men were transported for life to the then penal colonies of Australia.

In 1871 Charles Duffy was elected Prime Minister of the Australian state of Victoria, to her amazement Queen Victoria learned from her Prime Minister Disraeli that this was the same Charles Duffy who had been transported for Treason 23 years prior. She demanded the records of the other eight convicts and this is what she learned.
Thomas Meagher was Governor of Montana.
Patrick Donoghue and Terence MacManus were Brigadier Generals in the U.S. Army.
Richard O’Gorman was Governor General of Newfoundland.
Morris Lyene was Attorney General of Australia, succeeded by Michael Ireland to the same position.
Thomas Darcy McGee was President of the Dominion of Canada.
John Mitchell was elected for Tipperary to the British House of Commons, only to be disqualified because he was a convicted felon ~ his grandson, John Purroy Mitchell was Mayor of New York from 1914 to 1917.

This amazing true story of nine men banished from their native land to a penal colony for their political views, and in later years becoming outstanding citizens in America, Australia and Canada is now a part of the United States Congressional Record in Washington DC.

Boli looked good going forward which will be just fine in the League. Was at fault for the goal and it is early day for him but he will need to be a much better defender in Europe. All in all we were a bit too casual at the back for me and I worry what will happen when we qualify. Lots resting on Julien as Bitton is not good enough at this level. Going forward Forrest and Morgan were promising Christie looked sharp (when he wasn’t being fouled) but big Eddie looks like he needs games. Good to see Grff get a run out and a big cheer. 🙂

They should have been down to 9 players at least.
Penalty for Morgan in the first half would have killed the tie. The team set up by Lenny was excellent here we go 9 in a row.

Jimmybee cracking account.Thought we played some neat stuff tonight, Boli is doing fine as a new player, Christie was excellent as were the usual suspects, Eddy needs to do a bit better but it could be the Estonians won’t be as good as the Bosnians, we shall see. As ever want to see a proper right back, clearly they don’t think Ralston is the man.
