Celtic Diary Sunday June 9: Paranoid Again ? Or Better Prepared This Time ?

There do seem to be an awful lot of anti-Celtic stories doing the rounds.

We’ve seen all of this before, and no doubt we’ll see it again in the future.

Just a fortnight ago, Celtic secured their ninth consecutive domestic trophy. An unprecedented treble treble.

I’ve lost count of the amount of souvenir issues that have filled the shelves. I’m unable to keep up with all of the tv specials, the radio tributes.

Then again, I wouldn’t know where to start. No one would. There aren’t any.

David Turnbull is apparently one of the men Neil Lennon wants to bring in to freshen the squad up a bit. Celtic have made one or two bids below the asking price , according to some outlets.

That, if true, is fairly normal practice.

The player, according to the Record, so it must be true, has told his pals he wants to play for Celtic..prompting a reply from Motherwell PR man Grant Russell…who you’ll remember , in a previous life said he didn’t doctor the letter from UEFA that cited “rangers ” as a new club.

So we should take what he says with a pinch of salt as well. A pinch of salt equal in area to Strathclyde, and probably most of Grampian as well.

Grant Russell@grantrussell_

No, he hasn’t.

I don’t normally speak out on things like this. But this is made up nonsense and it’s embarrassing it has been lifted and repackaged as “news”.

Source: David himself, not the made up ones.

Transfer news LIVE: David Turnbull ‘tells friends he wants’ to join Celtichttps://bit.ly/2EX4Ych

Hey…how does that feel, Grant, when you know something is one hundred per cent true and someone in the media says it isn’t ?

As far as we can ascertain, Turnbull is just one of a number of players on a list, and not the list that was leaked, that Celtic have made enquiries about.

Speaking of that list that was leaked…ach, there’s no point. We hear it’s not worth the paper it was written on, which probably explains why someone crumpled it up and put it in the bin.

As for stories that Celtic are worried about information regarding transfer targets finding it’s way into the press, that’s also nonsense.

It’s just another way of trying to cause unrest at the club.

As is pretty much anything else you’ll see over the next couple of weeks, as it becomes apparent that Celtic will strengthen, and “rangers “, the great shite hope of the media and the establishment, will be under increasing pressure themselves on a number of fronts.

How bad is it over there ?

Well, the cavalry have arrived.. thanks to Babs McMahon on twitter who spotted them…

The narrative has been largely anti Celtic, including several commentators claiming that Neil Lennon is not exactly the fans first choice for the managers job, and perhaps this is aimed at hoping the team don;t hit the ground running in the UCL qualifiers.

Sort of planting the seed for dissent.

Paranoid ? Well, history has proved we weren’t paranoid enough, this time we’re watching them like hawks.

Andrew Dallas has quit international refereeing…

That allows him to concentrate fully on the quest to stop the ten….

Paranoid ? Or just aware…aware that we aren’t paranoid enough.

Whilst over the road, the feel good factor is positively encouraged, despite there being very little evidence for optimism..

Rangers didn’t win anything but smiles on fans faces show success of Steven Gerrard

Hugh Burns was impressed by the standards set by Rangers this season and reckons success is near.

Aye, they just can’t stop smiling

Image result for angry rangers fans

They may not have won silverware, but smiling faces at Ibrox is a barometer of the progress made under Steven Gerrard.

Former Rangers full-back Hugh Burns hardly missed a game last season, but it was the reaction to Gerrard’s work off the park that was as significant as many of the performances on it.

Burns, a matchday host at the club, said: “There has been a brilliant atmosphere around Ibrox all season and it’s great to talk to the bears with a smile on their faces again..

“Gerrard brought such a positive energy to the club when he arrived last summer, you can feel the fans are shaping up for what is still to come.

Let’s see…what could be on the horizon.

The bill to Ashley will be announced soon, as will the end of Rangers Retail..

Pity that, they’d been hoping to make a few quid from this money spinner..

Thats just a part of it.

There’s been a vehement campaign to get Celtic to apologise for the actions of several boys Club coaches involved in historical abuse cases.

Whilst in no way absolving anyone of any responsibility towards the victims, I’m a little uneasy at the single mindedness of the agenda, not only in the papers, but now with the involvement of an MSP..

Glasgow politician to meet with Scottish football bosses over Celtic Boys’ Club abuse

A GLASGOW politician is to meet with SFA bosses to discuss his concerns about Celtic Football Club’s handing of historical abuse involving the team’s boys club.

Conservative MSP Adam Tomkins said he had also requested a meeting with Peter Lawwell, the club’s Chief Executive.

Mr Tomkins voiced criticism after the Herald and Times group revealed that Celtic had been carrying out its own two-year investigation, in secret, looking into historical abuse cases involving Celtic Boys Club.

It follows a string of convictions for former employees including Jim Caffrey and Frank Cairney.

The probe – which is ongoing – has been headed by senior officials, legal counsel and third parties in complete secrecy as it looks to trawl through years of allegations to reach the truth.

Because of the sensitivity around the claims including potentially both legal and civil actions, only a handful of people have been privy to the operation.

Mr Tomkins has written a second letter to Mr Lawwell, accusing the club of not putting abuse victims “at the forefront” of it’s investigations. Other criticisms levelled against the club include a failure as yet to put in place a compensation package for victims.

He writes: “On the same day I wrote to you, I received a letter from the SFA. They have been in touch to arrange a meeting. It’s a pity you have not done likewise.

“How a wholly secret investigation at the best of an insurance company, can constitute a process designed to put the rights and interests of victims at the forefront?”

Mr Tomkins added: “My main criticisms are: 1. that what Celtic have said about the relationship between the football club and the boys club (ie that they are “entirely separate organisations”) does not appear to true and 2. that Celtic’s processes have been entirely secret and cannot therefore have been designed to help and support victims, which much surely be the paramount consideration.”

On the contrary, the very fact they have been kept secret could be in the interests of the victims, and also help to encourage others to come forward.

As the Dairy has noted before, the abuse of minors is a societal issue, and if Mr Tomkins is to meet with the SFA to discuss these matters, one wonders if its at all possible to open up the enquiry, as despite what you may be led to believe by the media, abuse took place elsewhere.

Operation Hydrant has identified hundreds of victims at hundreds of clubs, and yet has gone almost unreported in Scotland.

Barry Bennell, the former Crewe coach was recently jailed for his offences, and it’s interesting that there is a connection with a Scottish coach who has also been accused of crimes against children…

Maybe some of the professional journalists and politicians who have suddenly taken an interest in child abuse in society may want to follow this up..I have, and there’s a lot to think about.

There is clearly a connection between clubs north and south of the border re abuse…and there’s certainly a line of enquiry worth following here, for the sake of the victims.

There is mounting evidence of a paedophile ring within British football, one that it appears the police are investigating, and one that several news outlets have already reported on.

There does seem to be a need for a proper , full investigation, and perhaps thats what Mr Tomkins means when he says he wants to speak to the SFA, as it’s hard to believe an MSP would want to be seen as allowing his personal dislike of one football club to overcome his own admirable desire to see justice done.

However, as investigations are ongoing and there must be a certain amount of discretion around this, and it’s hardly surprising that there is little comment-unless you include politicians and journalists who clearly have some sort of tunnel vision about the whole thing.

Who knows, maybe one day we can see a proper campaign for justice for all those who were affected by these evil men, and perhaps even see all of them receive the help and support they need.

Better late than never..

On Friday we had this picture to , er,  admire…

Jee-zoh. Imagine splashing out a small fortune for the lukewarm seats and lukewarm buffet at the crumbledome, and you are welcomed by the ugliest man in Ayrshire?

He looks like his face has gone on fire and somebody put it out with a shovel.

Tim.

Maybe his Dad saw the latest headings and told him to GTF before he was downgraded and removed from the list.

Can you imagine how the press in England would deal with this? They’d be all over it,asking why he’s good enough for the domestic game but not good enough for European and International matches. He’d be finished.

It hasn’t even been reported in Scotland.

I know and understand the vitriol which comes from outwith the club but there is also too much negativity coming from our own people on blogs and weblogs. One doesn’t know who to believe as there are so many so called Celtic supporters who criticize our club. We have what we have and we’ve done well with it so please just everybody who has nothing constructive to say just shut up. I saw an online blog from some Tims which really made me laugh. They listed Scott Brown as “useful,” what a crock, he is still a vital player and will be for at least the next two years.

Cliftbhoy… us “so called” Celtic fans” have as much right to voice our concerns and criticisms as any other Celtic fan.

Or do you really want us to be placid and meek when we see things that the Tory Board do that are inconsistent with the ambitions of the Supporters.

Take a look at the south-side Crumbledome. That’s what happens when a Board is allowed to wend it’s merry way, unquestioned and unchecked.

The negativity you allude to is fair criticism of a Board appointment that we feel was made on financial grounds with a dash of sentimentality and a hint of nostalgia thrown in to muddy the waters.

and NO we will not shut up about it.

Oh dear – the Board is the enemy and we have every right to say so? We really need to be critical of things that are a clear threat to Celtic Football Club. The Board while imperfect is not one of them. The meltdown at crumble dome was caused by throwing money around in an attempt to buy success beyond the means that the club had to spend on it. Happily demanded by the Orcs that supported them. The Board has to steer between financial management, investment and political

Broxburnbhoy, thick as the Orcs are in general, there are still enough of them with a few active brain cells that can do at least rudimentary arithmetic. No one ever asked where the F@ck the money was coming from. Just as the current crowd haven’t asked who is funding the 6/7 year £50+M loss in running costs. they are going the same way. Hell mend them.

My point was not about the finances at Paradise per se but about the Tory Board’s willingness to fund the Supporters realistic ambitions for the playing side of the Club. Celtic FC. Pl and the Board see the team as fund raisers to grow Celtic as an Organisation. They have made Footballing judgements about our squad to win the next two titles. Titles that are all important to the Supporters.

Those of us who object to NFLs appointment almost to a man will have the utmost respect for his playing career, his first stint as Celtic Manager. Needless to say that respect covers our admiration for him as a man. A man who was subjected to abominable hatred and explicit Sectarianism, threats of violence and hypocritical double=standards by the Sports administrators and the culpable SMSM.

Our criticism is that the appointment was a cost saving exercise by the Board at a time when Celtic has never had a healthier financial base, more money in the bank than at any other time in the Clubs history.
Yet the Board are prepared to gamble the Historic second 9IAR & the First 10IAR. Something that is the Holy Grail to the Supporters. Fans who have year on year funded the growth in revenue, Season Books, Cup Tickets, Euro Games, Merchandising etc.
Yet the Board is gambling on that Goodwill continuing.

Our criticism of Neil also covers the fact that it has been a long time since his First managerial Role at Celtic and Football in general has moved on since those days. Unfortunately Neil’s Managerial skills have not been enhanced over the same period.
We are genuinely concerned about his ability to create a winning side over the next two years. More so with all the obstacles, on and off the pitch, that will be thrown his way.
This will be an all out assault on Celtic, the Club, the Players, the Fans and Lennon as the Manager. Periods at Bolton and Hibs were Nursery time compared to what is coming his way. We are concerned about his ability to manage effectively both on and on the pitch.
The Treble Treble was won by a team running on empty despite Neil being in charge not because of him.

There are many of us who feel that it was grossly irresponsible of the Club and unfair of Pl in particular to offer the job to Neil. There was no way he was going to turn it down “He knows the Club”,” He Gets It”. It was emotional Blackmail and we are genuinely concerned for the effect that the mayhem of the next 2 years will have on Neil and his family.

We care about Celtic, its Staff, it’s players, the fans, it’s History.

We care enough that we will be vocal about our concerns and will not be silenced.
The pro Neil’s faction’s has an element whose stance is regrettably akin to the Rabid Brexiteers who brand all Remainers as “Remoners” and “traitors”.

Where is the One Club for all? Where is the basic right to free speech?

If I am wrong then Neil will have my sincerest apologies. However I can’t in all conscience be silent about something that I am so concerned and fearful about.

When did Neil leave Celtic first time around?

What has he done since? Bolton & Hibs.
Ok Bolton was a poisoned chalice, never could understand why he took it. Hibs: gained promotion from the Championship. Big deal. Biggest budget in that league. First season in SPFL good showing. Second season, mutually consented with team in 8th position.

I’ve said it before about Euro results. These were no Masterful Tactical Classes. The players won those games on ability and grit and in the memorable game against Barcs, we played on the counter , miraculous goalkeeping and a large slice of LUCK. Barca pulverised us that night but the footballing Gods looked down on us that night. That’s the reality not Green tinted nostalgia.
Football has moved on everywhere except in this provincial backwater.

Pl has picked a man that he HOPES can carry us through the next 2 years. Anything in Europe is a bonus and he will not invest serious money to make a fist of it there.

We keep going on about Sevco recruiting “Action Man Heids” We’re not much better, Bargain basements. I can understand PL’e reluctance to opening the Biscuit tin after the experience of Rugger/Conjugalriteson but are you saying that the dosh he saves on Neil’s salary is going to buy and finance a 3/4 year contract for a decent RB /Ch or whatever.
Pl & the Board have played us for Mugs. Open for interview, several Applications have been received, states PL, meanwhile Feb/March PL & Lennie are sitting down going over a Transfer Plan for next year.
Quite a Coup for a Caretaker Manager. tHen when Treble Treble secured offers Neil Permanet job while announcing ” n-one else considered or Interviewed.
PL was counting on Nostalgia, Neil as a Celtic Great and the Euphoria of winning 3X3 to get Neil in the door with no questions asked.

If we had faltered in the League or Cup then it would have been hard lines Lenny, and Brenda left us in the shit to the fans and then and only then would the Board have looked around for a manager.
PL was playing it to the wire before making a decision and playing us all for Mugs. He doesn’t care if we win 9/10IAR. as long as he keeps growing the Business adding more Revenue Streams , increasing the Share Price. That’s his job.

Anyway I’m fed up defending my viewpoint. It’s mine. Agree or disagree I don’t care. I’m not looking for converts or shares or like. It’s not a popularity contest.

The vile cretins who abused boys within the Celtic boys club have been charged and are serving time. Let’s hope any other molester hiding no matter the club or organisation is caught and punished though in my opinion jailing them doesnt go far enough but that’s by the by. The point scoring is a fuckin disgrace.Sadly there was no strict guideline or police disclosures etc to see if the person coaching or working with kids up until the late 90s was required. This allowed the monsters to infiltrate football and other organisations.
Let’s hope and pray that it is a thing of the past and that children can go and achieve all they hope to be in safety and peace.

We should not be afraid criticise constructively it is the mindless criticism I can’t bear the daft laddies authoritatively pronouncing on matters they don’t understand. recently a Brexiteer said to me:” It’s really simple,Brexit, I want out now,” as it was at a family do I said reasonably “ Oh it’s a bit complex I suppose.“ Instead of:” its a daft idea you thick as mince numpty.” “No it’s not complex, it’s simple,” said afore mentioned numpty. You can say what you like about Brexit but simple it ain’t and neither is running a football club, recruiting players, even selecting or managing a team. The clue is in what folk get paid, the harder something is the more folk get paid. I know some people feel
they have a harder job than their boss but that is usually because they only know about their boss’s job in relation to themselves not the rest of it. When Lawwell eventually
leaves bloggers will hate the new person even more, won’t they Leanne.

S.E.V.C.O.F.C.
(With apologies to the Big Yin)

Our wee club is seven years old
And about to hit the skids
So when you mention D.E.B.T.
We damn near flip our lids
Words like P.A.Y.E. tax or B.I.L.L. bill
These are words that make our chairman
I.L.L. quite ill

Oh, S.E.V.C.O.F.C. is potless today
We’re banned from using E.B.Ts so we can’t pay our way
We’re victims of a conspiracy by taigs at H.M.R.C.
And that’s why there’s no warchest for our new boss Stevie G

He said that Dave King told him:
“The cash will quickly roll in
Aff aw they stupid Orange Cs”
But when he asked him for the money
Dave started acting funny
And told him:”A.S.A.P.”
Next thing Stevie knew, Dave left an I.O.U.
And fucked O.F.F.ski
And left poor Stevie up to his neck
In the S.H.I.T.E.

Oh, S.E.V.C.O.F.C. is potless today
Both Dave King and our wee shabby club will soon have had their day
That’s why I’m spelling all of these words
Knowing most Huns can’t read
They can’t be told the club is nearly
D.E.I.D. deid.

Jimboh let me say that Neil.Francis Lennon would not have been my first choice but to degrade the man the way you have is unforgivable.
Let’s start with your comment
Our criticism is that the appointment was a cost saving exercise by the Board at a time when Celtic has never had a healthier financial base, more money in the bank than at any other time in the Clubs history.
Yet the Board are prepared to gamble the Historic second 9IAR & the First 10IAR. Something that is the Holy Grail to the Supporters. Fans who have year on year funded the growth in revenue, Season Books, Cup Tickets, Euro Games, Merchandising etc.
Yet the Board is gambling on that Goodwill continuing.
You say our and we if your the president or something speaking on behalf of us.
Let me say this you don’t and never will

You then go on

What a load of tosh.!
We are genuinly concerned about his ability? Ffs who have you managed or those you speak for over the past 2 years.
When BR left not only did he go but he took the whole background staff with him. Neil Lennon came in at the most crucial time in our history and delivered. What more do you want from any manager
According to all accounts the players are delighted that it’s Neil Francis Lennon.

No one knows the club more than Neil Francis Lennon your comments sir in.my opinion are a disgrace. This wasn’t a cheap option this was the Celtic option in my opinion a man who bleeds Celtic at the helm to take us to.9 and 10 in a row you sir take off your nappy and join the party for its going to be a show and the Glasgiw Celtic will be there. HH
PS thank.you for your comments I have my opinion you have yours HH Harry Hood.

The way i see it, Neil Lennon will burst a gut to make sure the team is ready to go, he will give his all, he also won’t leave the club in the lurch by leaving mid season.
The scrutiny here shouldn’t be on Neil Lennon, it should be directed at the board from the minute the window opens until it closes.

We are all Neil Lennon, stand beside him & back him!
