Celtic Diary Wednesday March 27: Madden: Why It Doesn’t Matter

Bobby Madden, a noted former season book holder at Ibrox, will referee this Sundays New Glasgow Derby.

Already there is the perception of bias in this appointment, and a fear that he will influence the game in such a way that he’ll be singing along with the rest of them in the Crown Bar after the game.

Yet there is no need to worry.

The Dallation influence at the SFA goes deep, indeed if you’re not a friend of Dallas then you won;t reach the top level of officiating. Thats been well documented elsewhere, and even on here.

Should the unthinkable happen and “rangers ” record a historic first win at Celtic Park, it will make little or no difference to the outcome of the title race.

It might liven it up a bit, generate a few extra quid, but in the end, the title trophy will be dusted down, taken out of the cupboard, paraded around Celtic Park and then put away again until 2020.

Referees only influence a game when there is a point to it.

Though keep an eye on Mulvanney, we hear that he’s rated to be even less competent than Andrew Dallas, which is a remarkable achievement. A veritable fuckwit, would be one way of putting it. Promoted way, way beyond his capabilities.

As for interference..its the Cup games we need to be wary of. These are a one off and can be open to interference, but there’s nothing to be gained for Madden,or any of his chums, by risking death threats and having to have a police guard for a meaningless match such as the one this Sunday.

They will save that for Hampden.

When Beaton played ball, it kept “rangers ” optimistic over the break, so it served a purpose.

By the way, did those guys who got arrested over the text threats ever get charged ?

Or even named ?

As usual though, the hype continues. Its what keeps them hoping.

Its the usual guff, mainly from ex players on both sides, with the opinions that are least based on reality coming from the darkside, thus encouraging people to buy the papers, whilst the one that is closest to the facts is from John Hartson.. he considers the effects of the  Beaton inspired win in December

“Rangers got carried away by that result. If you look at the results since that win at Ibrox, I don’t know if they took their eye off the ball.

“I don’t know if they put so much into that game and got the result, then went away on the winter break and felt they had Celtic’s number.

The gap in quality between the sides meant that Celtic would have to have an extremely poor day, and that “rangers ” would have to play above themselves.

That’s pretty much what happened.

Steven Gerrard must wonder what happened. Something’s gone wrong.

“They were almost challenging after that win, but they have fallen back and gone out of the Scottish Cup too.

The hype surrounding the win generated hope, almost to the point of belief , that this was to be their year.

In fact, all they had was a good day at the office.

One guy who has plenty of good days at the office but struggles outside it in the wider world, again largely due to Scottish media hype, is Alfredo Morelas.

The  youngster has been hailed as the future of Colombian football by one or two team mates, although presumably something got lost in translation, as he recently got three minutes at the end of one game for his country, and was pulled off at half time during his second.

Remarkable, although in Scotland there are plenty of journalists who I assume would perform that particular process for him.

He simply isn’t an international striker. Not quick enough, and not clever enough.

But he’s still the best chance of a few quid coming in the door over the summer, so the propaganda has to continue..

Meanwhile, Celtic continue to supply the Scottish national team, and yet none of their experienced Champions League and international players are touted as anything other than transfer targets for englsh clubs when the media wants to unsettle them.

Funny, that.

Then again, we don’t need the money.

They do, they need it urgently, and another example of how its affecting them surfaced earlier in the week..

And their fans should be demanding an explanation..

This is Broxi Bear, the Ibrox mascot, back at the start of the season..

The pressure of the job must be getting to him. This was him a couple of weeks ago…

I’ve seen a similar degeneration happen to those fond of crack cocaine…look at those eyes..

Another example of cost cutting..just bearly scraping by ?

Down to the bear necessities ?

And look at this…a rhythm and dance combi set up to rival the spice girls…or girls aloud…or the irish ones..little micks.

They are even considering opening a theme park for thoise who have bviews that can be considered, er, antiquated, maybe belonging to an environment long since rendered extinct.

But there are plans to try to revive this way of life..

And even plans to fund it..

Thats actually a call to arms for a crowd funding to fight whatever has upset them this time.

Note the comment about a desire for something to fight for..presumably they missed their club dying..

Due to laptop issues, we haven;t had a caption competition for a while, so here’s one today..

Thing I don’t get is this-the papers obviously think they are pushing the price of Morelos through the roof with their hagiographic descriptions of this future Galactico.

Ffs,hardly anyone in Scotland reads their rags and it’s nearly impossible to read an article on the DR website. So they are influencing no-one of,erm, influence. So the result is gonna be yet another boot in the baws for the huns when he goes for next to sod all, though the SMSM will probably report it as around mullionsawonga and conveniently forget to look for it in the next set of accounts.

I beg to differ with Madden. I agree that the refs will only cheat now when it matters, and that we should have enough to see us over the line regardless of Sunday

but…

This game REALLY matters to Sevco. The season ticket renewals are dropping through the doors, and a right good result against us will help considerably in this.

He will do his bit on Sunday, guaranteed.

Btw,I realise there isn’t much you can do about my posts being held for approval-I’m not alone in that-but three different times the same post has disappeared without trace. And I didn’t even swear in it!

“Little Micks” Belter!

When new teams are constructed, the newer players are very enthusiastic, as you would expect, especially if they are older players, not very experienced or have been sat bench warming for another team. But as the season progresses, their enthusiasm wanes, they pick up injuries and if your player pool is not very big, then results start to go on a downward trajectory. If their manager who is not very experienced continues to berate them, then they are truly fucked. One result does not a season make and their season is about to be snuffed out. The semi at Hamden is for another day, get rid of the scum first and job done.

Paddybhoy,
I find guys like you sort of amusing when it comes to throwing opinions about, in regard to David Moyes.
You guys like to point to things like ” what did he dae at Man Utd ” or ” He didn’t do it in Spain “?
After Alex Ferguson ANYONE would have struggled at Old Trafford in the immediate years post Ferguson, as Louis Van Gaal & Jose Mourinho have shown.
Moyes kept Everton in the top end of the Premiership for over a decade, got them into the CL & all on a budget vastly inferior to some bigger clubs he finished above.
I think i’m also right in saying he was named manager of the year in England once or twice during his Everton years.
My point is, he kept doing it for Everton, year after year, season after season, this would show anyone that he knew what he was doing, i respect his Everton days, it was not easy to do what he did every season, in arguably the best league in the world.

Give the guy a break & acknowledge his achievements, because they cannot be taken away from him.

P.Lawwell wonder how he got on discussing the Champions route to the land of milk and honey. If the so called big clubs are continuing to suppress our C.L. route, that will have a baring on the amount wedged from the biscuit tin. You’ve got to keep an eye open for spending the wedge in the tin, so that it doesn’t circumnavigate the earth and land somewhere near Celtic park, camouflaged as a museum or a hotel. Spend it on a DoF and circumnavigate Lawwell back to his loft and draw the blinds so we don’t have to watch him greeting as he watch’s the wedge on the park. If that ever happens, there will be a “Wake” Guinness and prawn sandwiches, count me in as chief mourner…

Ralph to lose on Sunday would in my opinion have a detremental impact on our team.
It then becomes 7 points gap. A possible further loss down to 4 and a trip to ibrokes to come.
Do not underestimate what the sfa are upto and what refs can do to influence a game. It only takes them to look the other way and this title race could be blown wide open.
Of course if our players turn up fit and ready nothing to worry about but we must win on Sunday simple as.Leave nothing to chance. Our capitulation at Motherwell still haunts me to this day. Nothing should ever be taken for granted.HH

The report into the “Janefield Street crush” has just been published on Celtic news, by Fairhurst. It makes for interesting reading and is a lengthy and illuminating document. After a lengthy investigation with all involved including the supporters affected by this near tragedy. For me one thing sticks out and that is the “Tunnel” effect, when wider openings “funnel” down to narrower pathways, then tragic circumstances might occur. In a sense, that was what happened at Hillsborough, but with huge tragic consequences. The big expanse outside, funnelling down to the narrow entrances, the pressure was huge, gates were left closed and crushing happened. Thank fuck that it was a “narrow miss” at Celtic park because if it wasn’t….

Mike
Reply to  Mike

Weered, The jury is still out on Police Supt. Duckenfield about Hillsborough and that is where some gates were left closed. At Celtic park there is no gates. It was the “funnelling” effect of wide open spaces suddenly narrowing into the back of the stadium, hundreds of Celtic supporters funnelled into a relatively narrow passageway, both ways. That in my opinion happened because the supporters were not marshalled properly. The police and stewards should have been aware of that and prepared for it properly. Thankfully there was no serious injuries, just fear and a narrow escape. They have highlighted various contributory causes, let us hope that lessons have been learned…

When I attended games in the north stand, I used to moan a lot about “the traffic” coming into the underpass from opposite directions, it always caused problems. It seems to me that they should only have one way traffic, I wouldn’t be surprised if that is changed soon..

The Cha
Reply to  Mike

Mike – ditto on the info.

On the 1 way traffic how would you implement this fairly as, probably, as many people want to pass each way, on a draconian diktat, alternatively on a game by game basis or a time slot?

Also, you’ve effectively got 4 lanes of traffic ie fans passing each way to go to either end but you also have those from either end entering the North Stand.

Mike
Reply to  Mike

The Cha: You couldn’t implement the 1 way traffic fairly as some would certainly lose out and have to take the longer route. So its just how do you balance safety against ease of access? Even if you changed the one way system on alternative weekends, that would just cause confusion. But consider three wide open sides and only one side with a narrow passageway. Either you prioritise safety or manage the traffic better. All this because of squinty, but the advantage is more Celtic supporters and less Huns = less smell.

Read the article on the fishal site but not the full document, as will wait for Ralph to summarise it tomorrow. 😉

Is it a ‘no blame’ report, as most feared, as that’s next to useless?

We know that large crowds and changed dynamics can be dangerous and this can lead to catastrophic consequences BUT this is why we have crowd control management by police/stewards.

It was this crowd control management failing and not the crowd doing what crowds do.

The releasing of the report over 6 months later and just a few days before the next game also stinks of tokenism.

Mike
Reply to  The Cha

It is a no blame report, there is no blame attached to the police or the stewards and that is just crazy, because it is the police’s job to prepare for all eventualities. The stewards not so much because they do what they are told to do by the police. The report highlights the funnel effect but mentions the lack of Sunday bus and train services, FFS. You would have thought it would be better because of that. Celtic commissioned the Fairhurst report, it was always going to take time to gather evidence and information, interview supporters etc. But if you commission and pay for a report, the people who do the investigation will always err on the side of the payee. At least it doesn’t put any blame onto the supporters involved, lets just hope that the police make certain that it doesn’t happen again, lucky escape…

Ralph to dismiss a defeat on Sunday as no or little difference to the title race I think is way off the mark. A defeat could have a crushing blow on the players the supporters and the management in the run in. That 10 point gap down to 7 and then worry sets in fans get edgy and a trip back to ibrokes who knows?
No don’t underestimate the masonic hand, an offside goal here a penalty there could all drastically change the course of a title.
We simply must win on Sunday our 8 in a row in my opinion depends on it. The quicker we get there The better. COYBIG

Devoy45

Totally agree Jimmybee. Sunday is a must-win for us, just to put some daylight between us and the Orcs. It will give us a big boost and knock them out of the race.
Lenny needs to get this one right.
Maybe 4-2-3-1 is not Lenny’s preference?
If it is:
Bain
Lustig (Toljan)/Boyata/Benkovic/Tierney (Hayes)
Brown/McGregor
Forresr/Edouard/Sinclair
Burke
Weah/Bayo/Johnston to figure.
We’re really gonna miss Rogic, Christie and Tierney.
I think we will do them 2-0 or 3-1 but a win is our aim.
Even a draw would be disappointing, especially at Celtic Park with only 500 Orcs present.
C’mon the Celtic!

jimmybee

Think Benkovic is still injured m8?
Tierney might make it but not worth the gamble if he is not 100% fit.
Dunno if Jozo is ready to play or not but yes Rogic Christie Tierney huge losses.
I would play Toljan at left back this seems to be where he is preferred at his parent club
Bain
Lustig Boyata Ajer Toljan
Broony McGregor
Burke Forrest Hayes
Edouard
3_1 the hoops big decisions to be made by Lenny lets get behind him and give them all our full backing.

Ben’s fit (he played the last bit against Dundee and in a bounce game).

The trouble is that him, Ajer and Boyata are all coming back from injury. Add in Lustig and it doesn’t look great.

I’d start with Ben and Boy, if both are match fit.

I’d also start Sinclair, as he has the big game experience, as opposed to Hayes.

jimmybee

The cha i normally would m8 but Hayes could have played himself in after his last performance. Whoever he picks both will do a great job.

Mike

So here is my team, based on the ken fuck all theory.

Lustig, Boyata, Benkovic, K.T.or (Hayes).

Brown, McGregor,
Rogic.

Forrest, Eddy, Sinclair.

The Cha

Reply to  Mike

No way should Rogic be anywhere near the team.

He hasn’t played this year and couldn’t even make the bounce game the other day.

We’ve a fair few injury concerns (just about all the back 4!) and can’t risk an even riskier inclusion.

Mike

Rogic should play, even if he has had one leg amputated because he is a born match winner, on second thoughts I might take Benkovic out and replace him with Ajer because….

Its my team and I’le play him if I want too,

Monti, Re your earlier comments I was once told by an older lady that – short and thick does the trick but long and thin gets it in!
Also 4-2-4-2 formation wins most matches .
Bain
Toljan, Ajer, Benko, KT,
Brown and Calmac,
Forrest, Eddy, Ryanaldo, Hayes
If Ryan not fit Burke up front with Eddy.
Since on the bench with wee Mikey . also Ker McInroy doing well for reserves.

Monti, leave them in! Your 4-2-4-2 looks good! After all the
Orcs often play a formation this way:

4-4-2-4!
I hope we play so well we’ll feckin blast them back to 1690!

This isn’t good news for our season book holders who depend on being abke to pay up foe their season books. Let’s hope Celtic can sort it quickly. Celtic statement.
DUE to challenges faced by the club’s finance provider, Zebra Finance, supporters who have not yet renewed their season tickets are currently unable to apply for the finance options with Zebra Finance.

These issues are affecting all football clubs who engage Zebra Finance. However, Celtic are working hard to find an alternative solution for supporters and will provide a further update as soon as possible.

We have had confirmation from Zebra Finance that any supporters who have completed the application process with Zebra Finance and received a successful confirmation email from Zebra Finance will not be affected and no further actions are required. The club will communicate a confirmation of such season ticket renewals in accordance with the applicable process.

Any applicants who have had a finance application rejected by Zebra Finance will receive a follow-up communication from the club as soon as possible.

I share the view that there is a direct link in the decline of Scottish football due to the fuckwits running it. A very wise man said… “Football without fans” well you know the rest. The SFA need to take a large step back, change tack and modernise. They must start the modernisation process by being honest and holding a major inquiry into past actions, the lies are tripping them up. Be open and admit what these past transgressions are and begin again. Get rid of these ancient committee’s and bring in new professional people. Start as you mean to go on. Its either that or RIP, watch as Scottish football floats down the Kelvin..
