Celtic Diary Tuesday October 30: Murrayfields Miles Better

Its a few miles further away, but once you get there, its a far superior venue to Hampden, where the restricted viewing seats far outnumber the good ones.

Celtic seemed to like it as well, once they settled in. The 3-0 second half mauling of Hearts secured another cup final , although it would have been nice to play someone else other than Aberdeen, as this two club monopoly can’t be good for the game.

Prior to the Liepzig game I said that we’d all be talking about Ryan Christie, and although I got the game wrong, I wasn’t as far out as I usually am.

His introduction, along with that of a rejuvenated and enthusiastic Scott Sinclair didn’t change the game as such, but it allowed for more movement and energy in the opposing half.

Hearts crumbled under the pressure, and in reality it could have been far worse for them.

Man of the match Christie earned plaudits as a player, and then yesterday earned them as a man..

Look who popped in today with a donation for us.. Ryan Christie, Celtic starlet and man of the match yesterday. He was gracious enough to pose for a wee photo 😊 You really never know who you’ll meet at the Sally ☺️

Not only did he give a donation and pose for a photograph, he also distracted the staffs attention to help the shoplifters at the back.

( By the way, if you are one of those people in the back of the photo, I’m only kidding. )

Christie could yet go on and do a job at the club, and Sunday will have boosted his confidence no end.

Manager Rodgers may yet offer him a new deal…he’d be daft not to.

Ryan was just sensational. He’s someone that of course we would look to commit to.

“The club have been talking to his representatives but I’m not aware of any movement.

“Ryan is definitely a player that we would love to keep. He is a fantastic player. You saw his contribution.

“You saw it at Aberdeen when he was there. It was step by step but now he’s 23. He’s at a really good age, so he can make a valuable contribution to this team.

“Olivier Ntcham felt a tightness in his hamstring and it was weighing up the risk.

“When you have Ryan on the bench you have a decision to make and I felt his energy and goal threat could help.

“I always felt Ryan could come back and then make a contribution because you need that personality to play for the big clubs and play in big games.

“He’s shown that. He’s come into games, he started games and you saw his impact.

He scored a brilliant goal and was involved in two others. It’s all part of the development for him and it was great to see.”

The powers that be are expected to make a statement later concerning an incident between Steven McLean and Eboue Kouassi, if only to clarify the rules.

Image result for Kouassi maclean

The statement will confirm that only managers are to be allowed to pull their players off. Players must leave that sort of thing away from the pitch.

McLean faces a two match ban for what was actually a sexual assault, but its unclear whether the police will get involved. There have been calls to charge McLean with sexual assault, which may be a bit over the top, but then again, you do that sort if thing in the street, and its the jail.

Then again, there is evidence that matters pertaining the penis are high on the agenda at Tynecastle…

Anyway, the Hearts fans had had enough by the end of the game, and left the premises in a rush, presumably to catch their other team on the telly..

That game didn’t go much better for them, as Aberdeen beat “rangers ” 1-0, surprising themselves and disappointing everyone in the media… there are far too many to mention…as there will now be no “Old Firm ” final for them to bleat about.

Stevie Staunch and his team appear to be losing a little bit of support from amongst their own…

That was probably the most constructive piece of criticism…this one got back to basics..

This one was a little more friendly..

Memories ? What memories ?

Mind you, this will stay long in mine..

Perhaps its because they are such easy targets that fans of other clubs can’t resist a pop at them.

They really don’t help themselves..

Whereas the media have spent their time and energy with Brendan is leaving stories, they seem to have ignored the fact that Gerrard will be going first..

Its not just the mainstream media that are spreading stories about Celtic. Social media has been alive with tales and tittle tattle as well.

Griffiths, Mulumbu and others have been the centre of In The Know rumours, and there is nothing in any of them.

What I do know is that its causing quite a bit of merriment amongst the players, but it seems its more like a concerted effort to plant seeds of discontent among the support, and unfortunately, its going to continue.

But at least we know its bollocks.

What is not bollocks is that when the clubs spend in January, it will be on players we know about. No more frantic searches through google to find out about a players injury history.

There was no diary yesterday-seriously, I was a little worse for wear pretty much all day- so we go back to Sunday for this..

Surprise, surprise, they had a nine seater “just returned “…

As for the Kouassi picture, is that the no longer ‘unseen’ fenian hand?
Regarding the compliance officer, I’m sure he’ll state that if you look closely you can clearly see it is a left hand and as such, must be Kouassis. 😛

I am amused by Gerard’s post match interview where he takes blame for yet another pisspoor defeat by another pisspoor team. Most amusingly he talks about buying in quality! With what money exactly? Sorry dude no quality headed that way. Then even more comical is McInnes talking about how Aberdeen can break Celtics monopoly on trophies! Ehh they barely squeezed past “Rangers” and finally and the biggest clown of all Graigy the Jamal being the worst loser ever again. He just can’t say the better team won. What happened to Kings legal woes and the order to offer money for all shares? Where is the report from the compliance officer? Where is UEFA on FFP and “rangers” as they continue to spend in debt to gain an advantage?

I hope McLean gets all that’s coming to him, no pun.
If I think back to the game I remember him doing three things; an early yellow card that was admittedly harsh, that disgusting grope on Kouassi, and then adopting the Hearts hard man routine screaming at a Celtic player while he lay on the deck, ala Captain Courageous who did the same thing to Hayes at Tynecastle.
It shows up the cowardice of this rat infested club, I hope Hibs wipe the floor with them before we do the same for ninety minutes rather than 45 at the weekend. Thinking they’re all that, top of the table, we can go toe-to-toe, and then sat in like a shower of scared lassies, cheating any decent fans they may have of a good day out watching their team.
They shouldn’t annoy me this much so I apologise for the above, but that kind of behaviour to our players should have resulted in someone (as we said in my amateur team) cementing the cunt!!

Ralph,

I hope you are correct that the rumours around two of our players are false, and, even malicious.

Those quotes from supposed football fans are disgusting.

SG needs to take some lessons from BR in dignity after a loss. No team has a right to victory, Celtic included.

If I was to advise Mr Gerrard I would suggest that he point out that he is new to management and is learning all the time. Further his team consists of players that did not know one another a few months ago…their results will be inconsistent for a while. He should then point to their performances, so far, in Europe.

On the other hand, he can simply ignore this free advice and continue to lose whatever credibility he has left.

Frankly, I do not care!

Two things annoying me, firstly Ralph bring right about Murrayfield, really enjoyed the stroll and the support was brilliant plus his take on Christie, unbelievable 45 minutes, hopefully he and Scotty will kick on from their performances. Secondly Brendan does do a better job than I would as manager, “not so” regular readers will chorus( more out of politeness than belief). He called it right with his Leipzig selection and Sunday, not only has he put us back on for a treble treble but he has actually reduced the threat of Hearts for Saturday. Of course they might come out with their early season form but I am thinking “ bring it on.” What does he do tomorrow night, keep Christie and Kouassi (if fit) in, they are not going to prove they are Celtic class by not playing, both need extended runs then we can make a proper thought out assessment. Should he rest Ajer, Ntcham, maybe Lustig ( who did really well on Sunday) and Tierney! We can bring in Ralston (also needs game time) Izzy ditto, Boyata and Hayes. against Dundee mind you 3 points against Dundee is the same tally as against Hearts but a strong bench should see us through.

My understanding is that videos posted/embedded from youtube are streamed directly from youtube, therefore don’t affect the resources/bandwidth of this site. Same goes for any videos posted on older diaries.

“Resource limit reached” is likely down to increasing popularity of etims and loads of people trying to access the site at the same time.

Anybody else think Brendan prioritised Sunday over Leipzig ?
We did have injuries but at least Forrest made a recovery. On the face of it we didn’t think we’d get anything from Leipzig but maybe at full strength could have yet may then have toiled on Sunday. I’m glad we burst them but still hanker for. showing we are better than we show in Europe. Son in law was over there and said our fans were superb and superbly received. Videos look great.

Steve,

I think you are correct. The Semi was BR’s priority. He left Benkovic out in Leipzig. It seems he does not wish to play him twice in a week. Is he fragile? If I paid 13 million for a CB, I would want him to be able to handle two games a week.

That time of the year again when James McClean from Free Derry has to run the gauntlet of racist thugs for refusing to wear a poppy.
You get fuckin sick of it then all eyes on Celtic to see if the players have a poppy on. It wears you down.
I think this is a good read.
Over the last 10 years the sepia tone of November has become blood-soaked with paper poppies festooning the lapels of our politicians, newsreaders and business leaders. The most fortunate in our society have turned the solemnity of remembrance for fallen soldiers in ancient wars into a justification for our most recent armed conflicts. The American civil war’s General Sherman once said that “war is hell”, but unfortunately today’s politicians in Britain use past wars to bolster our flagging belief in national austerity or to compel us to surrender our rights as citizens, in the name of the public good.

Still, this year I shall wear the poppy as I have done for many years. I wear it because I am from that last generation who remember a war that encompassed the entire world. I wear the poppy because I can recall when Britain was actually threatened with a real invasion and how its citizens stood at the ready to defend her shores. But most importantly, I wear the poppy to commemorate those of my childhood friends and comrades who did not survive the second world war and those who came home physically and emotionally wounded from horrific battles that no poet or journalist could describe.

However, I am afraid it will be the last time that I will bear witness to those soldiers, airmen and sailors who are no more, at my local cenotaph. From now on, I will lament their passing in private because my despair is for those who live in this present world. I will no longer allow my obligation as a veteran to remember those who died in the great wars to be co-opted by current or former politicians to justify our folly in Iraq, our morally dubious war on terror and our elimination of one’s right to privacy.

Come 2014 when the government marks the beginning of the first world war with quotes from Rupert Brooke, Rudyard Kipling and other great jingoists from our past empire, I will declare myself a conscientious objector. We must remember that the historical past of this country is not like an episode of Downton Abbey where the rich are portrayed as thoughtful, benevolent masters to poor folk who need the guiding hand of the ruling classes to live a proper life.

I can tell you it didn’t happen that way because I was born nine years after the first world war began. I can attest that life for most people was spent in abject poverty where one laboured under brutal working conditions for little pay and lived in houses not fit to kennel a dog today. We must remember that the war was fought by the working classes who comprised 80% of Britain’s population in 1913.

This is why I find that the government’s intention to spend £50m to dress the slaughter of close to a million British soldiers in the 1914-18 conflict as a fight for freedom and democracy profane. Too many of the dead, from that horrendous war, didn’t know real freedom because they were poor and were never truly represented by their members of parliament.

My uncle and many of my relatives died in that war and they weren’t officers or NCOs; they were simple Tommies. They were like the hundreds of thousands of other boys who were sent to their slaughter by a government that didn’t care to represent their citizens if they were working poor and under-educated. My family members took the king’s shilling because they had little choice, whereas many others from similar economic backgrounds were strong-armed into enlisting by war propaganda or press-ganged into military service by their employers.

For many of you 1914 probably seems like a long time ago but I’ll be 91 next year, so it feels recent. Today, we have allowed monolithic corporate institutions to set our national agenda. We have allowed vitriol to replace earnest debate and we have somehow deluded ourselves into thinking that wealth is wisdom. But by far the worst error we have made as a people is to think ourselves as taxpayers first and citizens second.

Next year, I won’t wear the poppy but I will until my last breath remember the past and the struggles my generation made to build this country into a civilised state for the working and middle classes. If we are to survive as a progressive nation we have to start tending to our living because the wounded: our poor, our underemployed youth, our hard-pressed middle class and our struggling seniors shouldn’t be left to die on the battleground of modern life.
