Celtic Diary Sunday September 2: You Can Come Out Now..

The transfer window has closed, but not before Moussa Dembele leapt through it on his way to Lyon after flinging his toys around the training ground.

Manager Rodgers didn’t want to sell him, but the petulant Frenchman left him with little alternative. £20m is winging its way into the clubs account, to sit there with the other money brought in recently, until someone points out to Peter Lawwell that there don’t seem to be too many people in the crowd today…

On the whole, the transfer window was a bit of a let down.

Actually, it was a lot of a let down.

In fact, I don’t think its possible to feel more let down than I did yesterday.

We’ve lost a few players, Dembele, Roberts and Armstrong, of whom it could be said they were good players.

They didn’t start in all the games last season, they didn’t start in quite a few of them, actually..

John McGinley on twitter pointed out..

Games Moussa Dembele didn’t start last season – 33

Games Stuart Armstrong didn’t start last season – 36

Games Patrick Roberts didn’t start last season – 49

Armstrong had pretty much decided last year he wanted away. Fair enough, thats up to him. no secret, no tantrums, and he went with our best wishes.

Roberts was only ever on loan, and although he was the subject of an attempt to make it permanent, it was a sort of half arsed attempt which was always going to be rejected.

Dembele ? He couldn;t get out the door quick enough. For him, the novelty had worn off, and the arrival of Edouard meant he might not be forst pick any more, and thats without Leigh Griffiths taken into consideration.

His ego couldn’t take it, and he reacted in exactly the same way as anyone who’s ego is threatened, and didn;t want to play any more.

He did try to justify his actions with a bit of blamology, claiming Lawwell, rodgers or both had promised him a move and then reneged on that promise, but by then the identity of the villain had been discovered, and resect for him disappeared.

He did try to thank supporters yesterday with the usual template “love you all and thanks ” message, but the damage had been done.

He was a decent player when he wanted to be, and thats about it. but there’s no denying he made the club a few quid, so on balance it was probably worth it.

He claims to have no regrets about how he left Celtic, which means he did. but he’ll forget about us soon, but not before I forget about him.

He joins the list of those who could have been heroes, alongside Paolo di Canio and Pierre van hooijdonk.

And its alongside such luminaries his name shall be henceforth uttered.

Those who came in through the window, some bloke who can’t get a game for Leicester, something they decided within a fortnight of signing him, arrived on loan, and added depth to the defence, which was strange as they never previously needed any help to get deep into stuff.

Brown stuff, usually.

This transfer window, Brendans fifth, has all the aspects of a club downsizing, and perhaps thats the idea.

Out of the champions League ?

Well, that money needs to come from somewhere. And it did.

Although I have a feeling, based on nothing other than intuition, that we may have a new hero…

Something about this one, something about balance in the team being restored.

No evidence, no statistic, just a feeling.

Anyway,we move on, but there has opened up a gap, mainly in trust, between those who run the club and those who support it.

It will not take much for that gap to become a chasm.

Speaking of gaps that are actually chasms, Optimistic FC are at Celtic Park today, and as usual, they have got their dander up.

They always do ahead of their first real spanking.

Somehow, the media are hyping up their fantastic start, whilst celtic are in crisis, and therefore the two teams are evenly matched .

Their fantastic start that sees them seventh in the table..

If Stevies Staunchies lose today, they will be in the bottom half of the table as the league pauses for an international break.
How will they spin that ?
Celtic will probably go with the familiar tried and trusted players, though two up front and three at the back might be a laugh.
More likely , though, is Edouard to lead the line in front of Rogic, MacGregor and Forrest.
For a significant number of “rangers ” players, this will be the biggest game they’ve ever played in, and they will have to get used to being laughed at for an hor and a half by far more people than have ever laughed at them before.
As usual, they may be new players at a new club, but they have inherited a few traits from the club they replaced, and that includes kicking, pulling , diving and pushing.
With Willie Collum officiating, expect him to make his presence felt very early, probably by refusing to penalise anyone in blue who decides to make their presence felt early.
The two sets of players couldn’t be further apart in ability , fitness and experience.
Unfortunately, the officials couldn’t be much further from , well, being proper officials.
Prepare to be outraged, they may even steal a draw.
But I think we’re more likely to see them firmly put in their place.
Quickly and fairly effortlessly.
Meanwhile, the police are doing all they can to show that they haven’t got a clue…

If you turn up drunk to the ground tomorrow, you won’t get in. Don’t take the chance and miss the game!

However, when games are at Ibrox, you can indulge in sectarian singing, sectarian fighting and of course, sectarian stabbings.

Are they going to seriously stop everyone who has had a beer from going to the game ?

Keep an eye on this story…

What about those tax avoiders who already have a knighthood ?

Speaking of all things dodgy, the Europa League draw put Celtic in with two clubs who have the same owners-or at least sponsors…

Red bull Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg make up the group which also contains Rosenberg ( again) and some are a little confused as to how they can not only compete in the same tournament, but appear in the same group.

The New York Times explains how …

Red bullshit

Even the SFA wouldn’t sanction that.

If you don’t count Douglas Park being involved at Hamilton and “rangers “, that is.

What can shot data tell us about the Glasgow Derby on Sunday?

The sides have had similar season’s in terms of outcomes, but the shot data paints a different story.

Now take yer nonsensical, capitalist, cheating statistical shite and shove it right up yer fuckin’ arse…..and then make a speech about the ‘statistical’ chances of some other human being being so direct and honest as to tell you you’re a waste of a fuckin’ skin. No offence, mark you!
I asked of Celtic, about 2 weeks ago, and in amongst the disgraces of Lawwell, and Brendan too, that OUR TEAM went out and ‘did the business’ by beating Hamilton, beating Suduva and beating the New Huns, regardless of current ‘predicaments’, and, as the idiotic ‘national’ games came up, therefore giving us the necessary time to re-group. Thankfully, we’ve done this. Onwards and upwards.

Unbelievable that the huns go into half-time with the score at 0-0. They have been under the cosh constantly and have really been riding their luck, what an effort from Jamesie from 25 yards out only to see his shot crash off the bar. A totally one-sided affair so far. An early goal in the 2nd half and they could fold.

The shame of Scottish football is clearly on display today. Firstly, the persistent fouling and follow through tackles of the Sevco players is going unpunished. Secondly, the bias and/or incompetence of the ref is astounding.

McGregor kick on Ajer needs to be revisited by the compliance officer, plus some of the other actions of Sevco players. The ref knows if he refs this game according to the rules there will be few Sevco players left on the park.

Irrespective of the result, this Sevco performance has to be challemged together with that of the ref.

Rebus, 100% correct. Time Lawwell stood up for our club and DEMANDED an OPEN-TO-ALL meeting with the Men-in Black’s leaders and with suitable camera evidence from Tynecastle and CP today.
Enough is enough. Otherwise someone will ‘overflow’ with genuine outrage and take things into his own hands. This will not be helpful but is clearly understandable.
Gerrard is clearly schooling his muppets in theatrical diving and then having the fucking nerve to blame our goal on a “foul” by Rogic on Union Jack? WTF?
I’m satisfied with today’s result, but not happy.

There is justice.

But why oh why replace Forrest with Sinclair in the last minutes?

Get a real defender on at that stage.

Great performances all through the team. Forrest outstanding; NtCham tired but high class. Boyata excellent, and there are better CB’s than Ajer but he did his job today. He will get better.

Many disgraces in the blue shirts…..really action needs to be taken on McGregor ….that is two matches that he has kicked a player.

Monti,

My point was why not put on a defender rather than someone who cannot tackle.

Forrest was outstanding in both attack and defence.

Good win and several fine player performances. The scoreline flattered the huns but it’s nice to know that they look unlikely to pose any serious threat this season. Some poor refereeing decisions and I hope McGregor gets called out for that vicious kick he had at Ajer. Should have been a straight red. Hopefully today’s show will knock the stuffing out the zombies.

The wee huns should be knocked off their perch before too long – they don’t have the strength in depth to sustain this winning run of theirs.

Well done today bhoys – job done.

International break now, so what must happen now is for Dermot Desmond, Peter Lawwell & Brendan must have a meeting to analyse the past window & get any issues ironed out ( no pun intended Una ).
They must start with taking a look at the players list provided to the board by Brendan, Lawwell must then explain to Brendan & Dermot, the exact fucking reasons these players did not arrive.
The failed processes in the past window must be revisited, reviewed & scrutinised.
The transfer window is closed, it’s done & the motivation now is for the squad & manager to settle down & push on.
Brendan must seek the answers & receive assurances that transfer targets will be more professionally approached & deals concluded quicker.
Damage was done in the last window, poor as it was we must move on…..just make sure you get it right in the winter transfer window.

Do not fail the manager in January, to do so will see us looking for a new manager next summer!

Are Sevco better than last year ? Super performance by the team, Brendan made a big statement today. The transfer window finished better than I hoped given the lack of strategy. Surely pre season Dermot would have wanted to know was there a strategy in place who needed to come in ( a striker Idsonne, a centre half or maybe 2), who needed to be kept (Rogic, KT, Ntcham). Some of that was done but Boyata sent
a cjesr message he was keeping his options opened do a plan to get a ready to play centre half and a possible replacement should have been in place. Mousse and his agent were as good as gold for 2 years, Brendan called it wrong, he of all
people should have known he wanted to go, Mousse let himself down big time but more than a decent player Ralph. Ok Dermot, Lawwell and Brendan need to meet get on the same stage, no hanging back to save a few quid. Identify who you want and get them, they will be dearer in January, akways
are. Boyata was the man of the match today, Ajer more comfortable playing with him but he may be away in January which is fine if a replacement is there.

Post lost, try again. Fantastic performance from the team, Brendan Rodgers clear winner, the possession, corners, scoring attempts steers ahead of new club. The reason Sinclaircwas brought on was to prevent Sevco getting any rhythm for the last few minutes. Are Sevco better than last year.
Dermot, Lawwell and Brendan all fouled up over transfers.Boyata indicated he might be away by wanting to wait and see ghevWorld Cup through, a strategy was needed for one or maybe 2 centre halves, to be fair Boyata was brilliantvagain today and Ajer is much more comfortable along side him. He may be away in January so plan for a replacement although no one could have anticipated how Jozo would deteriorate, what is wrong there?Mousse was more than a decent player Ralph, he and his agent were as good as gold for 2 years, he wanted away, what is the point in keeping a a player who didn’t want to be here, it proves nothing. Brendan of all managers posses the skills to realise how pointless that is.

We’ve got used to the idea that we can totally dominate a match and win 1-0. Big Jock said the ability to defend and win 1-0 is the real measure of a team…in the long run. So desperate were the Huns and MSM to establish Gerrards credentials was that it was claimed, pre-match, he had won 11 in a row, prior to today. Truth? a League Cup win and a win and two draws in the league makes means 4 ‘unbeaten’ domestically. He has played and won 4 rounds of Europa which means 8 wins altogether. The Huns and MSM were counting half time Europa results as games unbeaten!Desperate. We looked good today and the Huns were outclassed and got away with murder by the MIBs. Brendan needs to call the MIBs out, as Lenny did. Naismith/Lafferty/McGregor As auld Rangers, nobody has told them that times have changed since Watty and his lackeys ruled the roost.
Good job Brendan, good job Celtic.
Thanks for a really good performance. The goals will come. We have a break to sort out some ‘stuff’. It could be having Dembele away will lighten the load on the other players.
Enjoy your evening bhoys.
