Celtic Diary Friday July 13: What We Have Heard

Some of it has come from reliable sources, some from unreliable, and some from the media.

You can choose what to believe.

Valur take a 1-0 lead to Oslo where they will face Rosenborg. Winner play Celtic.

Don’t book that Oslo trip just yet.

Right, thats the accurate stuff dealt with.

Well, mostly.

There won’t be any loans coming in from Liverpool. As to why, there was a clue on website Bristol Live..

Liverpool are set to continue the controversial policy of fining clubs who do not utilise their loan players, and it could haunt Leeds United, Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion.

Bristol City fell foul of the system last season when they failed to play misfiring Ryan Kent enough times for the Reds’ liking.

The Robins were reportedly slapped with a £500,000 fine by Liverpool after he played just 10 games for City, starting six of them.

It is a policy that is putting some clubs off moving for young talent at Liverpool.

Not all clubs, to be fair, just those who aren’t desperate.

John McGinn was left out of the Hibernian side that started its European campaign last night.

Neil Lennon, Hibernians manager, himself expected to link up at Celtic with the midfielder after ten in a row, said

“His thigh was heavily strapped yesterday. I know there will be a lot of conspiracy theories flying about, which is fine, but I am in control of this.

“I had a chat with John and it puffed up a bit last night and he slept on it. He wasn’t 100 per cent, and he is not 100 per cent mentally either, and if John is to go I need to look at what else I have got.

Actually, its because he has a bit of packing to do, and as soon as Rod Petrie winds his neck in he’ll be on the way to Celtic Park.

Its up to Petrie. He can either take whats on the table, or leave it where it is.

McGinn can sign a pre contract in January, should Celtic still require his services, and take a fair hike in his signing on fee.

Capital City Press, which describes itself as Scotland’s leading freelance sports journalism agency.  said..

CELTIC could miss out on the signing of John McGinn unless they shell out close to £4m – as suitors from south of the border circle for the Scotland internationalist.

The Easter Road outfit knocked back a second bid from the Hoops of £1.75m on Wednesday evening, a relatively small increase from their opening gambit of £1.5m which was submitted last Monday.

That is understood to be substantially below where Hibs value their prize asset, who see the sale of Scott Brown as a relevant benchmark in negotiations.

Leading freelance journalists…or just ones that can’t even get a job in the SMSM ? Still, with that sort of article, they must be moving up the list to take over when the current lot are scooped up by the worlds major news outlets..

Hibernian want £4m. Of that they are adamant. They may be forced to settle for less, however, around £4m less, to be precise.

St Mirren are due a fee of about a third of what Hibernian rake in for McGinn. For some reason, Petrie is hanging up his phone every time someone starts a conversation with

Will you wind your neck in , fuckface, or we’ll both get fuck all

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers commented on the second Celtic bid to be rejected..

“I am distant from that, so time will tell.

“That’s something for the clubs to organise. I coach the team, I manage the team. We target players but ultimately any agreements have to be between the two clubs.

“We respect John’s still very much a Hibs player and unless there’s an agreement…like I say, it’s going to be a difficult one. That’s really between the clubs.”

“From a business point of view, Celtic have always had a way of working, and that’s something I am sure they will continue to do.

“John’s a very talented player, but he is a Hibs player and Hibs have every right to decide what their valuation on him is, like we had with Stuart Armstrong.

“But I tend not to be involved in negotiations. Like I say, my job is to coach and manage the team, and hopefully improve players.”

And improve them he does.

Who’d have thought that with two games left in the tournament, Dedryck Boyata would still be on World Cup duty ?

He’ll be involved in the third place play off against England, who crashed and burned against Croatia, who wouldn’t let them have the ball for large parts of the quarter final the other night.

The highlight of the tournament for me was when England kicked off while Croatia were still celebrating,. another example of the sportsmanship they have shown throughout the competition, and even had it been allowed, the daft bastards would have seen the goal chalked off for offside as they played a forward pass.

Footballs coming home ? Well, don’t wait up for it.

Mikael Lustig won’t be back for a week or so yet, but Tom Rogic is.

And so is Cristian Gamboa, but the latter isn’t expected to stay for too long.

Compare the body language of the manager in the two pictures..

Leigh Griffiths won’t feature for a few weeks. He’s hurt himself again, and must be a little fed up with something.

However, he needs to accept it and get himself ready, and not take matters into his own hands…

Image result for man leaps out onto road

Image result for celtic stars in car crash

This is possibly the most unlikely piece of tittle tattle to ever appear on this page.

Griffiths did not leap onto the windscreen of a car carrying Olivier Ntcham and Oddsone Edouard, causing it to veer off the road.

And everybody is fine after the incident.

Fair play to the enterprising chap with the van, but he’s not going to sell many ice creams parked there…

Jamie Caulker has fallen out with his boss at Dundee, the little shit Neil McCann.

Maybe  he called him a little shit.

Which,  incidentally,  was the name-and ability -of singing and dancing group McCann formed with a couple of mates..

Image result for Neil McCann waves his rule book

Caulkers  been sent home from Dundee’s training camp on the Algarve, and specualtion is rife his time at Dens is up.

Is he ready to come to Celtic yet ?

Or can it wait until next week ?

As we said, some of these rumours are exactly that. Rumours.

Though he can’t be any worse than Marvin Comperr, who could feature against Standard Liege tomorrow, as the club have confirmed there will be a halftime Paradise Windfall draw.

Rodgers is set to use two different line ups again, one in each half, as he looks to bring his players up to speed ahead of the second leg against Alashkert, which looks to be a mere formality, but approaching the game with one hundred per cent focus is essential, in case the players forget which ones are friendlies and which ones are qualifiers.

The new lights have been fitted at Celtic Park, and there are a few videos dotted around of them in action.

Mostly these videos show some lights going on, going off again, and moving in sequence, whilst going on , and going off again.

They probably will look better in the rarified atmosphere of a European match, but if that cost four million quid, lets hope they kept the receipt as there seem to be a few bits missing.

And lets also hope that they don’t let the guy who authorised the payment anywhere near the scouting department.

The Orange Order have issued a statement about the attack on a catholic priest as one of their marches marched past his church.

The police appear to have backed them up on this, and still can’t figure out why the priest didn’t just go back into his church out of the way.

By staying outside he’s just brought it all on himslef, a common argument used in defence of hate filled bigots who think its perfectly acceptable to abuse other sections of society on account of them being, well, other sections of society.

The Glasgow City council have added to this farce by saying that they won;t consider a petition to ban the annual festivals of darkness becuase some of the 75,000 plus signatures don’t live in Glasgow.

They’re the ones who moved out because of the annual festivals of darkness.

Petition to Holyrood it is, then.

Or perhaps we should merely ask for the British Army to offer protection in the community ?

Thats how it usually starts….

Orange FC played their European game last night, happily for them in front of a sell out July 12 crowd…and then a loan signing from Liverpool entered the fray.and crossed himself..

Delightfully, if he doesn’t get an agreed amount of games, “rangers ” will have to pay a fine…

Image result for laughter gif

On top of repairs to the pitch, which cut up badly when someone, er, slid along it..

They won 2-0, and from now on 12 July will be some sort of holiday for them, in honour of Stevie G, who led them out of the dark ages.

Expect them to march or something every year on this date in commemoration.

Oddly enough, I’ve never come across anyone thought to be dead, especially for six years, who was actually sleeping.

Stevie G truly is the messiah.

Perhaps it was he who spoke to the Financial Times…

Like the BBC, a once respected institution , they have steadily lost their reputation.

And like tin openers, spangles and telephone boxes, they won’t be around for much longer.

Its Friday, and of course that means we have to declare this weeks Knob of the Week. ..

Again, we have to make a collective award, and it goes to all of those working in the media at the World cup.

With the conviction of a “rangers ” fan, and not a little of the same sense of entitlement, declaring that 55 is coming, they planned bus parades, bank holidays and knighthoods for everybody.

Football is coming home they said, despite their side showing an extreme inability to actually play the game.

During the six games they played, they managed six shots from open play, and nine out of twelve goals came from set pieces.

They did what England teams do, lumping the ball forward and falling over after minimal contact, and when it went against them. they resorted to petulance and er, lumping the ball forward in the hope that something might happen.

But that didn’t stop the pundits from “dreaming “.

And it certainly didn’t stop them from talking shite.

Luka Modric, post match simply said that they ought to be a little more humble, and a little more respectful

English journalists, pundits from television, they underestimated Croatia tonight and that was a huge mistake. All these words from them we take, we were reading and we were saying ‘ok, today we will see who will be tired'”

And he was right.

So, to all those “experts “, from all channels..

You won’t be coming home empty handed, you’ve got a share in the

Etims

Congratulations on Knobs of the Week!
Knighthoods for ‘Our Heroes!
Heroes? Footballers? Especially, English footballers?
Heroes are people who care for their own family members without pay.
Heroes are the thousands of unsung young carers in Britain who help their parents and grandparents.
Heroes are people who run food banks and shelters for the homeless.
Heroes are people who care for other people and that includes many of the lowest paid in the NHS.
Heroes are people who save lives: medics, firemen and women, members of the public who know First Aid.
These real, everyday heroes do not get paid £100,000 a week for kicking a ball about but they do not get knighhoods for playing games and winning medals.
On the subject of being paid too much, many of the lowest paid people in the BBC are those (mainly women) who clean the offices, serve the food and do real jobs. Many on this site had parents and grandparents who worked hard jobs like this. Perhaps some of the highest paid men and women of the BBC will unite together for higher pay for their lowest paid? Strictly Come Dancing might take a pay cut to help those who serve them and clean up after them? It’s a good thing for these high earners of both sexes that the BBC isn’t run like a real business in the real world, paid for by ‘working’ people.

Weered, I appreciated your answer to me Tues/Wed which I tried to reply to but kept getting the dreaded error message and lost replies.
Jimmybee, struggled to find the match (we walked for miles!) until a guy just down from The Celtic Corner told us of McCooley’s where we caught the 2nd half. Cheers. It was great to see The Bhoys back in action and 3-0 away is some result in Europe. Relishing the season ahead.
Ralph, great Diary and, fingers crossed, all the buttons are working well!

Imagine Gary Lineker receiving £1.73 million pounds for talking shite,
the BBC truly are a remarkably generous institution. By my reckoning Ralphy you should earn at least the same as him. My Christmas gift to our three Frenchmen.. Dodgems until they learn to know the difference from the tarmac to the grass on a roundabout, it was not funny for the poor bloke injured but it looked like a stolen car trying to hide in the bushes, or a new pair of glasses. McGinn aside the clock is ticking but its looking like the biscuit tin’s lid is rusted up. I don’t much care because I believe in the players we have, if Dembelle is staying for this season and French Eddy joining full time, then this is a happy chappy. With fire-power like that and our other midfielders, let the rest fear the Celtic.

The rest of us should show unity in the face of disagrrrreement!
Argument’s fine, but nit-picking and trolling is just divisive and plays into the hands of those we want to see GONE.
End of day we’re Tims on here and therefore should behave as such.
I’ve got history I’d prefer not to have, but I’m genuinely trying to be agreeable, supportive, or, in extremes, at least not belligerent. We’re a big, inclusive family; like Barca, standing up to adversity.
This too, is what it means to be Celtic.

“I’ll be there when push comes to shove” WTF does that even mean, your still talking in tongues and I don’t need any shotgun to deal with anyone including you. You come into a two day old conversation and have to stick your ore in, “it had nothing to do with you” it was between me and your pal, another one who probably hasn’t seen Celtic except from his couch and talks utter bollocks. And as for your claim about me stealing your whatever you think that I stole… more bollocks.
One thing that I have learned about Tims is for every one, the second one will have a different opinion, its the ones who are so conceited that they try to bully other ones who carry an opposite view that get right up my hole, so early bath for you and a 4 month suspension, give the World a breather from your unadulterated pish. It bothers me not who goes to games or not, on a blog that caters for over-seas Celtic minded fans, you gave your opinion and now I will give you mine.
You know that when you watch a team play on the pitch that you get a much better take on the teams performance, you can see things that you do not get to see on any camera, so your opinions carry more weight than anyone who doesn’t actually see a game. You put yourself forward as someone who knows football as some kind of expert on systems, on tactics but the reality is very different. That doesn’t bother me too much but I will have a conversation with another poster and you will interject as if your opinion is better than ours. On the whole I enjoy Celtic banter, civil Celtic banter not like the prick that calls himself Tic. Toc. who fortified with booze is arrogant, conceited and comes across as a bully, typical Hun behaviour. Back to you, don’t troll me if I want your opinion then I will ask for it, knowing that you do not attend games so your opinions mean SFA to me. I’m trying not to come across the same as the fud above but you did ask, so there you have it, someone who doesn’t attend games but who puts himself on the blog as the fountain of all knowledge. Its a common theme on any blog and I will try to temper my answers. BTW I may be old in years but I still am in great shape, working your farm does that to you.

“And that’s about all I have to say on the matter” and yet more rubbish and you making out that I didn’t know the difference between a flat back four and three at the back, listen to yourself, as I explained several times to you, players interchange. Hendry, Simonovic, Ajer, Tierney,
somehow that didn’t add up to four defenders, well in my book they are whichever way you say it. As for trolling this started long before the above conversation, you butted in to most of my posts before during and after the above conversation, you canny help yourself, you just have to interject as you did above despite what you said above. So you keep on telling yourself that you know everything about players, managers and systems, when the reality is you probably never played football, supported our club only ever watched it on the T.V.

On that perhaps we agree.
McGinn cost Hibs nothing, zero.
Petrie is the one who put the valuation on, not the usual source’s of transfer data.
Brown was not in the last year of his contract.
Rodgers admitted that he liked McGinn.. liked. But he also said that between Brown and McGinn “there was no contest” between them.
IF McGinn comes to Celtic, he will be a squad player, not a first team pick, who would he replace, Brown IF he gets injured or Kouassi or A.N. Other.
Hibs finished fourth in last years league, thanks to Lenny
all of that before we take Petrie’s greed into hyperbole into consideration. Personally, if the player wants to come to Celtic (and he is currently injured), I would, like early most other commenters prefer to wait the 22 weeks, to like every other club achieve a better valued price for a player that I do not consider to be anything other than a squad member. If you recall Armstrong ( a much better player) came to us for £1.75 mill.

On a week when over 76000 signed a petition requesting that Orange Order bands should be banned and the council rejected the petition due to persons outside Glasgow voting for the petition. Others including myself e-mailed your MSP and G.C. parades team.
How many marches should there be?
Why should they be allowed to march down busy streets or where the locals don’t want them to march.
Why should they be allowed to march outside places of worship.
Why can they not march in areas sympathetic to their Kulture.
Why can bands from outside their country be allowed to march in a different country.
Who pays to police these march’s.
The people and business’s of their towns might not want to see these march’s. What about their rights.
Why should the police have the right to offer advice about whether they should march or not.
This is not just about Glasgow, its about every town and city throughout Scotland, we know they promote bigotry, division, their follow followers are constantly seen drinking and swearing, how can that possibly be classed as culture.

The Orange order have plenty of space to walk about if they so desire.
In Lanarkshire Strathclyde park, Hamilton racecourse could easily accommodate them.
Glasgow has Bellahouston Glasgow Green even ibrox
There is no need to March on busy towns and streets. But this is of no use to them. They want you and me to feel inferior they want to show off that they have the power to do as they please.
My M8 was right hit them and hit them hard.
When a parade is due threaten violence, make the council take notice that the croppies wont lie down. For a baton to be used to hit the Cannon then the only ones that have them are the Marshalls of the parade or the police. If it wasn’t a lodge member then it must have been a policeman. Fuck the OO the police the Sfa and Trump.

Jimmy, it seems to me there’s little or no alternative but to tell them orange bastards (and those who tolerate them) that we’ve had enough. This needs to be well thought out and strategically organised, but I’m up for it. Some of my reasons will stay with me but, suffice to say, I’ve enough.

A day that nature takes you is not a crash in an automobile but a western brown snake in the back yard trying taking you to death.

That`s two this winter.

Celtic cab charges `R` oz.

They tell me that still the signatories are coming in to register disapproval of Orange Order marches, the people are speaking in this so-called democracy so its “More than a feeling” a sea change perhaps in that people have the right to protest and want their voices heard.
You dismiss the peoples voices at your peril, if you dismiss them, you will pay the price at the next elections. Its important to let the protesters know what is being done on their behalf.
One march being diverted from one church is not enough, we need more than that, we need to be informed of why they are allowed to march so many times every year and the reasons for allowing them to do so. Its absolutely no use not having the courtesy to respond to e-mails of protest, we deserve more than that.

Superb CS. Without sounding like a prick I’ve dedicated most of my life to progressive thinking and though many don’t agree with my politics I’m sound with that. We need to unite against barbarism. I have tried to reach out to folk within certain ranks of society but was abused and threatened. Can’t please or convince everyone.

Great post Charlie S. People of all faiths, including non-believers, who go about their business in the right way whilst respecting others are worthy of the utmost respect whilst those who have been brainwashed into buying into the crass ‘us and them’ ideal leading to fear and hatred are in serious need of re-education.

The mind of the peepul doesn’t function like that CS, it’s the queens highway and all that shite. They’re going to Glasgow Green for the next 3 years and it’s watertight. They’re also having an Orangefest at one of Glasgows major hotels next year. I visited the Orangefest a couple of years back in George Sq more out of curiosity than anything else. Folk from my area that knew me cracked the usual jokes, whereas others threatened me and suggested I wasn’t welcome and should leave. It’s very inclusive unless you have certain political views.

Good read C.S.
There`s only one commandment here in Aussieland and that is:

Don`t be an effin dickhead while commanding power.

At last they say as Stephan Thomson sells his majority shareholding in Dundee Utd. Stephan received his majority shareholding when his mother passed over his father Eddy’s shares. Eddy a lifelong Arab supporter made his cash by providing a great service in his “Morning Noon and Night” shops. Eddy bought out the 42% of Jim McLean’s shares and other big shareholders to gain the biggest shareholder in Arab history. Eddy loved United with a passion, he engaged with the Arab fans and they loved him in return. But they despised his son Stephan who was aloof and would not listen or take anyone’s advice. When United sold Armstrong and GMS to Celtic, the Arab fans were raging, they never forgave him for that and when they discovered that their manager Jacky MacNammara had a clause in his contract that gave him a share in any transfer dealings, they hated Thomson him even more. Demotion followed and they have remained in the second division since. There is a lesson here for any football club, except the Huns who are too stupid to realise that you must keep your fan base happy don’t sell your best players or make certain you replace them with similar quality,or you reap what you sow. Chairmen, boards come and go, players come and go, but the constant is the fans, they and they alone are the club, without them you have a shallow, meaningless cold heated business business, Celtic, the fans are the champions of our great club. Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with them.
