Celtic Diary Tuesday June 26: From The SFA, Can We Expect SFA ?

The players flew out to Austria yesterday for their traditional pre season training camp.

The work starts tomorrow with a game against Vorwarts Steyr, and they do have a ring of familiarity about them..

SK Vorwärts Steyr is an Austrian association football club based in Steyr. It was founded in 1919. They play at the Vorwärts Stadium. Currently the club has about 300 members. The club is one of the oldest football clubs in Upper Austria. In 1999 the club went bankrupt and reformed in lower leagues later in 2001. In 2011 Vorwarts was promoted to the Regional League (Middle) which is part of third division of Austrian league football. In 2018 they were promoted to the second division.

As ever, when Celtic face any new club, it should be little more than a stretching of the legs.

Interestingly, we hear Scott Allan has been impressive in training, and has travelled with the team. Could he still feature in Brendans plans ?

Another “new signing ” could be on show, in the new, improved shape of “Mean ” Marvin Comperr..

Ah, wait, is that a walking stick ?

Celtic TV are covering all the games, and will be taking subscriptions up to thirty minutes before kick off. Those of us sick of the World Cup will probably sign up.

The World cup might get interesting now its at the knock out stage. I watched the Iran -Portugal game last night and almost cheered when Iran almost won the game late on. Thats because i’ve got a kind of inherent dislike of Portuguese teams who indulge in diving, swinging their arms about and generally acting like cheats.

I just can’t remember when that started.

Uruguay, another team noted for their sportsmanship beat the Russians to win their group, and their were hilarious scenes at their team hotel last night when everyone refused to drink the tea or touch the door handles.

Anyhoo, back at the ranch, and Craig Gordon let us into a few of the secrets that keep the Hoops player hungry for more success..

The challenge for any successful team is to keep it going but we are enjoying it so much and we want to go and perform again.

The first year under the manager was an absolute fairytale. To go unbeaten for so long, it was a crazy stat. To then follow it up with another three trophies is not the norm.

“It’s an incredible effort for everyone to keep that going but coming back for pre-season, the hunger is the same. We have collective and individual targets. They are put on the board and everyone is well beyond what’s expected of them.

The targets cover everything in training. Heartrate, intensity and speeds you should reach. Everything is mapped out. The targets are up on the board and it tells you who is running the most, for example.

“That filters down. There is no hiding place. We are all working at our maximum. When you see someone in your position doing a wee bit more then it adds extra motivation. We are all pushing each other, from the management to the players.”

There’s a similar system in place over at Ibrox.

“I like them because they keep my breath fresh ” an excited Steven Gerrard told his assembled players yesterday.

After an embarrassed pause and a couple of coughs, someone shouted

“tactics you thick Scouse twat “,

Gerrard went on to say his players should do a bit of tackling, and shoot when they get a chance.

All of which got the media fawning over his refreshing and novel approach to management, which just shows you don’t really need a Pro Licence.

One particular media icon got all tetchy yesterday when reports, from Phil MacGhiollabhan, claimed that “rangers ” didn’t have a coach to ferry their players from the hotel to the training ground, and instead were using a mini bus which operated shuttle runs.

Chris Jack Retweeted Phil MacGiollaBhain

There is no team bus every day because there is no need for one. The training pitch is a five minute walk from the hotel. Some walk, some use golf buggies up or down the hill. If you donated after reading, I’d be asking for a refund…

Of all the things Phil has written about that club over the years, it takes this for the media to react. One can only assume everything else is true…

I do like the idea of claiming a refund , though, where one pays for things to read that turn out to be untrue.

The Evening times would be out of business by the weekend. Perhaps the Orange lodge would return the favour and do a fundraiser for them.

If it comes to a straight choice between Phil’s pieces, and those in the Evening times, there should be no contest.

Today is June 26th, and its the day that the Compliance Officers report will be in the news, as today there will finally be an investigation into the cheating that blighted our game back in the days when footballers could earn a tax free living in Scotland.

Of course, no one is holding their breath, but who knows, maybe the SFA will be asked a couple of awkward questions, such as why they allowed a club with an overdue payable tax bill to be given a licence to play in Europe, and perhaps a couple of easy ones, such as why don’t you all fuck off and let us run our game fairly and on a level playing field.

We await the outcome with interest, as indeed, do Celtic…

Some days , the material for the diary is a little easier to find than others, and when this event was publicised yesterday, there was a considerable amount of disbelief as to its authenticity..

however, we can asure you it has nothing to do with this story

Steven Gerrard will seek advice from former Rangers managers Walter Smith and Graeme Souness

Those two are both alive and well.

The attempt to contact the club, perhaps to find out the location of the “deeds ” , is noble, but of course, since there are no such things as ghosts, its unlikely to succeed.

You can’t talk to the dead. It’s because they are dead. Well, you can, but they won’t answer, and if they do, its because they’re not actually dead. In which case, you should maybe get them  to change their doctor.

Whats interesting about this for me is that those shysters who ply their trade by pretending to speak with the dead have apparently found a market even more gullible than the one they operate in.

After all, they like people who won’t admit that something, or someone, is dead….especially if they bring their wallets with them.

Yesterdays picture..

“Some days the material for the Diary is easier to find” and some days you just have to make it up, never knew that cough. A bit like Jack the lad Wiltshire, or Marvins hair, or even hair today Stewart Armstrong and gone the morra.

Marvin, Marvin what’s going on, what’s going on.

Is the McGinn to Celtic bubble finally burst, as Scott Allan rejuvenates his Celtic career, I for one would be happy about that, doing Putrid Petrie out of his bonus, McGinn can be signed pre-contract in January, its not long to wait, to get him and to save money for other incoming players.

Monti

The risk with that is another club having a bid accepted now.
We need to learn lessons, remember James McCarthy in his Hamilton days, they only wanted £1m but we fucked about and missed out.

Mike

It is up to the player though, if he wants to come to Celtic and he knows that we want him, then HE will decide to hold on, not Putrid Petrie, he will make the decision. The thing is if Putrid Petrie is trying to blackmail Celtic, wanting Scott Allan for nothing and signing Mikey Johnston full time for nothing then fuck him. I remember McCarthy when MON made a half arsed attempt to sign him for £3-400,000 and Hamilton wanted £1 mill. He MON couldn’t have been that interested, because if he was, he would have offered the right transfer fee for him and got him.

Mike,
If we could get McGinn on a pre – contract i’d be happy with that, i just don’t think that’ll happen.
You also have to factor in the player, he may want Hibs to get a fee for him.
I just widnae want tae miss oot oan the player because we were fucking about waiting on January to come.

Monti, I think that transfer MIGHT be dead in the water for the moment and despite the fact that he IS a good player, I have my doubts about Putrid Petrie. He knows how much that Celtic have and how well we are doing, its just a guess but I think it could be that his greed might scupper any deal. It could also be that McGinn does not want to come to Celtic he might want to go doon sooth, I have never heard him mention a desire to come here, time will tell, but I have to be honest and say that I’m not sure that he offers what Celtic need.

Bosman handed the power to professional football players and that is the way that it should be, loyalty to clubs nowadays is a rare thing, cherish the players that put club before wages, they are a very rare occurrence. When players come from other Scottish clubs to Celtic, it would be nigh on impossible for them to move back to other Scottish clubs, their high wages would mean that other Scottish clubs could not afford to pay those same wages. That is what I think could scupper the McGinn to Celtic transfer, for the moment, lets be clear, he is no Wanyama, but supporters see other clubs signing players and wonder why we haven’t done the same. Some other clubs have signed 7/8 players a season on loan or on contracts but that offers instability, factor in a novice manager and despite supporters expectations is a dangerous way to form team stability. A settled first team squad is a great thing, provided you keep on trying to improve the squad. Its still early days in the transfer windy, a time to be more selective, patience really is a virtue and offers its own reward.

Charlie Saiz, You are right about McGinn coming from the Celtic family, but the question is, what can he offer Celtic, will he improve the first team squad, he might. You mention Broony who knew that he would become a Celtic devotee, not me that’s for sure.
Transfers are sometimes complicated, Armstrong’s did not fall into that category, I believe he signed on for another 2 seasons, knowing that he could leave and share all our best wishes. But the Hibees under Putrid are a different story altogether, I think McGinn’s transfer is complicated by many different issues, like Scott Allan, Mikey Johnston and Putrids greed, for these reasons McGinns transfer might be in doubt. He does offer Celtic something different, but is it enough?

Australia vs Peru…only one team turned up for this one. The superior technical skills of the Peruvians were in evidence. The first goal scorer, Carillo looked like a tidy player.

On the Aussie side, Arzani looks like a young man going places! He can play on either wing. Sadly, I think we are well served there, or, at least, we have to test prospects there.

I hope we have no thoughts of the two Aussie CB’s. Too slow by half.

Risdon the wingback(left) looks good, tho.

Rogic was the class in the first half for Aussie, but faded around 60 minutes…as expected.

At least he will get some rest before the qualifiers.

“Arise Sir Minty. Murray must have grown hundreds of acres of “lucky White Heather” when he wakes up every morning at his French Vineyard or Perthshire Estate. Because in most other Countries in the World he would be serving serious jail time. When he stumped with his fabled bag of goodies and bought the Govanites from Lawrence Malborough. Minty vowed to “bring the Euoropean cup to Aye-brokes. “Graeme and I will fulfil all your dreams and ambitions, at the time I thought he meant “Rangers”. He quickly latched on to his fellow brethren Masterton and began to plunder the HBOS money tree. He always ok mostly used other peoples money to grow his business.. Minty Mentals and the cheats in blue. I remember him selling the I.T. rights at “rangers” to Joe Lewis for £40.00 mill. and chiding Celtic because they did not follow his lead. At this time of course he WAS the Invincible. Ironic then that it was his banking brethren that caused the sciesmatic shift in the Worlds economy and like everybody else the “walls of Chez Minty came crashing down along Minty Mentals, the tremors of that greed are still being paid for today, by us and many others. He lied, he cheated and escaped “Aye Brokes” by the skin of his dentures. When he puts his geggies back in every morning and begins his designer shave he sounds of his daily mantra.. “Who’s a lucky boy then”. and goes through his daily ritual checklist. Millions in the bank.. CHECK, Investments.. CHECK, properties.. CHECK, Knighthood… CHECK. Meanwhile in every other part of the World….. “They shoot wild horses…. don’t they.

Or is there another way to attain such ‘knowledge’? Do either of you actually know the man? Of course, knowing all about JJ, you’ll know if he actually HAD to move abroad for his own and his family’s security?
A note to that effect would add some small iota of credibility to your snide double-act comments.
The guy has been an important and consistent player in information being put into the public domain; don’t you fucking dare rubbish that unless you have some hard evidence of why he should not be trusted. Weered, I appreciate your comment and the time taken to make it but I find its tone, after your explanation of events in (Norn)Ireland which I can scarcely imagine, goes way OTT from what I intended to put across. In my view, it’s essential to be open to ALL sources of information regardless of your own opinion of the source. I think JJ is often unfairly maligned and I can only presume it’s because folk haven’t consistently read his output and are unaware of his predicament; a predicament created by hun scum as he was willing to quash many of the lies emanating from Ibrox and the SMSM via the despicable James Traynor. If you read ALL of my comments you’ll surely see what I’m really about. Comments that go into the ether are often conciliatory but arrive too late. If CS is correct, which I absolutely doubt here, and JJ is in fact in a safe house in The Renton, I’ve maybe been taken in but what he has published over the last 3 or so years is still well worth knowing. I have NO wish to fall out with you; I admit to wearing my heart on my sleeve/keyboard and I see that my wording has huge scope for improvement. I also KNOW we’re actually on the same side here and hope you see that too.

What I am not sure were is were England better than Portugal, in fairness they were certainly the fourth best team then but hey ho history now. Needed to get that off my chest though.
