Celtic Diary Friday June 8: Silly Season Gets Sillier

I’ll be gad when the season starts.

Or at least a couple of friendlies.

The tittle tattle flying around just now is becoming ludicrous.

Could David Murray and two co investors be about to pump upwards of £75m into Ibrox, as opposed to the previous system of pumping the supporters of every penny they’ve got ?

They said he would never be allowed back into Scottish football, but six years is a long time in the game, and a humble, and possibly even contrite, however unlikely that sounds , murray could be the saviour they need.

It certainly ties in with the Ibrox clubs demand that supporters group Club 1872 tell King how much they are going to invest in the upcoming share issue, despite there being very little sign of that issue.

If the group has any sense-unlikely, i know, they’ll save their money until the next club/company comes along.

Which probably won’t be that long.

Put that together with the campaign to flog season books, which despite a reported  waiting list of 12,000, and the scramble for cash becomes apparent..

But why ?

We tried to ask Dave King, but he was busy trying to find an isolated island somewhere in the Pacific which has a wee cottage on it, and is not on any maps.

Draw your own conclusions.

for me, it appears that the Ibrox support has finally woken up, and has had enough.

there is a little bit of good news for them.. with Russia just around the corner, England manager Gareth Southgate wanted the young England players to know what it’s like to play in a hostile environment, where the ground is old, the area is run down, and the fans are all racist.

He’s scheduled a friendly at Ibrox, and instructed the team to wear green and white.

But who cares ?

There are far more important issues than whose turn it is to fleece the gullibillies.

At noon today, on this site, you can see one of them.

Perhaps the main one.

Auldheids article, ” Regan, his Part In His Downfall ” details chronologically the events surrounding Regans attempts to be an SFA chief, and where and why they need to be investigated.

If only to clear a few things up…

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Dedryck Boyata is in talks to extend his contract at Celtic.

With a World cup ahead, that makes sense for Celtic, whilst Boyata probably just needs to feel loved.

Nadir Ciftci has had his contract ripped up, which is also a smart move by Celtic. He is now free to come back and haunt us at a later date.

And in another smart move, Henrik Larsson has turned down the Livingston managers job.

Although there are doubts there was actually anything in that story.

From me, at least.

As for incomings, don’t worry.

It won’t be long now..keep your eyes open for a sudden press conference.

As soon as Neil Lennon stops asking for Mikey Johnstone on loan, Scott Allan and John McGinn, plus a few quid heading east, will pass each other on the M8.

Looks like the pitch is ready…

That particular design will help the strikers work out if they are offside or not, one of several things the manager is addressing this summer.

Not long now until the draw for the qualifiers of the champions League.

Image result for scared baby

Anyone know anyone selling a defibrillator cheap ?

Should Celtic get through, unless there are a number of surprises , it will be Pot four again.

But we must be due a good draw. Oh, wait, we haven’t played Real Madrid or PSV Eindhoven for a while. Or Napoli or Porto.

When the players report back for training, there’s a lot of work to be done, and we can only hope they are relishing the challenge as much as we are.

Meanwhile, there’s been a jump in revenue for Scottish football…

All of which should mean that the hand is strengthened when a tv deal is being negotiated, although it kind of depends on whose hands we send in there.

you’d think Ian Maxwell would pick someone capable, or at least recommend not sending in the diddies who negotiated the last one. .

Although in a recent interview, he perhaps acknowledged that Celtic are a problem, with all their money and success, and may have given us a clue to his own agenda..

“When I was at Thistle, Manchester City came and trained when they were playing in the Champions League and I would tell Celtic about the Man City set up,”

“Celtic would say, ‘It is incredible – they have got too much money.’ I would go, ‘That is what we think of you’. The decimal point just moves.

Sooner we get out of Dodge the better.

Its Friday, and that means its time to announce this weeks

I’ve a feeling this won;t be the last time, either.

McLeish has been caught on video laughing and joking about the cheating years.

He’s also seen his first two games as Scotland boss end in defeat.

Ibrox investors Club 1872 ready to step up and pay in Rangers share issue

Exclusive by Christopher Jack

THE finishing line is in sight for the Club 1872. As soon as the rubber chequered flag is waved, the captive bolt will very soon be fired once again.

In January, the organisation launched a bid to raise £1 million to be invested in the next share issue at Ibrox. Now, they have just days left to meet their seven-figure target.

Light Blues chairman Dave King confirmed several weeks ago that he hoped to bring in around £6million from a rights issue. As part of the process, loans from the likes of Douglas Park and George Letham will be converted to equity.

• READ MORE: Club 1872 hope to continue dialogue with Rangers over Ibrox board seat

Club 1872 have been invited to play their own part in proceedings and director Laura Fawkes hopes supporters make the most of the opportunity after Rangers set a deadline of next Thursday for the organisation to confirm how much they will invest this summer.

“We think there are fans that believe they can take part in the share issue and they are waiting for it to be announced and are holding back their bawbees to put into it if only they kent what was going on,” Fawkes told SportTimes.

“That is not going to happen, No way Hosie so for us it is about getting the message out that if you want to help rebuild the club and protect it for future generations, Club 1872 is the only way you can do it at this particular moment in time.

“There might be a handful, aside from the obvious investors, that get to participate. But for 99.9 per cent of the tiny wee shareholders, they won’t be able to participate.

“We are delivering that message to people right now. We see with our eyes a lot of people saying ‘I have got my own shares, so when is the issue because I am definitely participating, honest to god Laura were no jestin or anything’. That’s not the case. Just because people are saying that something hasn’t happened is of no interesting to me, because we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know and ken about and we´ll let them know. We also know there are known unknowns that people dont know about; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know, but it´s cough up time.

“Rangers won’t say ‘Are you kidding hen ? you are not getting to participate in this’, they will say ‘we have issued shares to the following people, at whatever price and raised less thatn six months of Steven Gerrards wages ’. We have got to generate what we can over the next week and give Rangers the figure as we don´t want Steven to leave before he has arrived. Well I think that´s what Jim Traynor was trying to impliacte on about.”

Members were contacted on Thursday afternoon by email informing them of the seven day count down that is now in place as Rangers slide towards a rights issue at the end of the month.

Club 1872 currently have a 10.71 per cent stake in RIFC plc but their status as the second largest shareholder could come under threat as the financial landscape alters once again.

Fawkes said: “We are sitting on around £960,000, but that includes our project money, which some of you are frankly a wee bit too precious about. The poll that has gone out to our members is asking whether we can ditch that and use it for Stevie´s money for July, August and Sepetember.

“We don’t know what impact that this will have on our shareholding yet because this is a situation of how much money we can or want to put in.

“If we turned round and said we had £2milllion, they could might probably issue £2million worth of shares it´s not guaranteed. The situation is quite difficult to understand. If we that can say to people ‘if we don’t have at least £1.3million we will get our shareholding diluted’ because we could put £5million in and still get diluted, or put £1.3million in and and it not get diluted, we´re not really sure””

“We don’t know what other people are putting in. It is not like an open share offer where everyone buys their percentage pro rata number of shares, it is ‘we have a pot of shares and we are happy to take them off you and give it to whoever who wants to do anything with them within this group of investors’. This is where we are at so it´s crystal clear”

The money collected from members on a monthly basis is split between shares and projects pots as supporters choose where they want to see their cash diluted.

The deal that saw Club 1872 purchase half of the stake held by Mike Ashley took them above the 10 per cent threshold for the first time.

But that stake could be diminished as fans prepare to see more of their hard-earned put into their club.

Fawkes said: “There will certainly be a group of people on the internet who will make a big thing of it if the 10 per cent goes down or we drop from second to third or second to fourth, that´s unimportant if we can manage to stay in second place by Christmas and get into the league cup final””

“A lot of people say they are signed up to Club 1872 because, for them, it is a great name. They put their money in and they just want to know it is going to benefit the club and protect the club from getinng skelped against Celtic.

“Particularly now, at a time when we are refinancing at the club, people will want to see their money going straight into Steven gerrads transfer war chest so they might not be too hung up quarterly humiliations , which is fair enough.”

Rangers have received almost £18million in soft loans from directors and wealthy supporters in recent years as significant operating losses have been offset.

King has stressed that the Ibrox board are not seeking fresh cash from outwith the current investor pool as the Light Blues gear up for the new campaign under the guidance of Steven Gerrard.

But Fawkes hopes Club 1872 can be in a position to play more of a part sooner rather than later as the group looks to continue to grow in the coming years.

Fawkes said: “With the organisation pushing for a board place, obviously the higher the shareholding is the easier it is for us to justify no more loan signings or old age pensioners and less employees who don´t understand our traditions. It is the same for any investor. We´re all in the same boat

“We are aiming for two things – a board place and 25 per cent – and both of them can only be achieved by putting in more money for shares.

“We are kind of missing an opportunity in the share issues because if we had £2million in the bank, we could be going and saying ‘we want more shares’. Instead, we are trying to raise as much as we can to get as many shares as we can.

“This only works if a lot of people participate over a long period of time. We don’t want to be in the position of having a week to raise £50,000. We want to be in a position to know that, if another share issue comes along in a years’ time, we are going to have the funds to invest.”

Morning Ralphy, Your heid must be throbbing every night thinking about all these rumours and cough new leagues. Thank God fur Auld Heids.
In the third qualifier if we get there I would take either Garbage Agdam, or Malmo FFS. and in the fourth, our auld favourits… A Stauner, A Stauner in Ex Chealsee Davis.
What a great achievement it would be to get through these qualifiers and into the land of milk and honey, then we could argue for months about how shite we are up against these top money doped teams, I’m soo looking forward to that.
But I am very much looking forward to Auldheids article on the Hun cheat Regan, now I know why cricketers wear shin guards and reinforced head gear and wield a big bat.
Keep up your great work, while we whittle away making voodoo dolls of Hun players and prepare the needles to stick it too them.

Would like to avoid Ljubljana in Q1, as they beat Maribor to the league and they would’ve been seeded.

Some tasty and old foes in Q2. A return trip to Mostar 30 years late would be nice and hopefully not to taxing.

If we make it all the way then the important oppo will be the Pot 3 team.

People are deluding themselves if they think we’ve any chance of knockout stages so Europa League is the target until we improve consistently over the next few years.

Played Partizan there in 89, as they were banned from playing at home for crowd trouble, throwing bottles etc so naturally they were in the stand above the Tic fans.

This was a year or 2 before the war so it was all peaceful and the bridge was intact.

Got a 24 hour train back to Munich that cost 7m Dinar, probably about £20.

In 1957 following the FA Cup Final although not interested in football at all a newish Irish hero emerged Packie McParland .
Now the awvseve Man Utd wimp will mutter about broken collar bones etc whingers all, man up. I stuck with Villa, Celtic came along later. However I could never quite cope with Villa being founded by a Scot, McGregor, with close links to the then Glasgow Rangers and they use a version of the Rangers motto and emblem
In recent years the Blessed One was their most successful manager with two 6 th places in the Premiership and the financial cost to achieve it. Randy Lerner sold the club to a Chinese millionaire but Villa’s links with Rangers continued. Their Chief Executive has been suspended because of an unpaid HMRC bill and reportedly they owe considerable
finances to other clubs over transfers. The Villa CEO came from Aberdeen so he will be familiar with these sort of shenanigans. No mention of EBTs but it will be interesting to see how the relationship with the FA and HMRC pans out.
