Celtic Diary Thursday May 3: Brace Yourself, Something May Happen

Deep down, we knew it would one day.

And it seems the manager is breaking it to us gently..

“Moussa is a fantastic player and the reasons why he has come here have borne fruit,“We wouldn’t want to lose him, but you have to think he’s a big talent and something may happen in the summer.

“We try and have the next one lined up. Odsonne is a top talent. If you look at him, we brought him in for a reason. He has developed and grown over the season.”

We knew thats why he was here, really, if we are honest with ourselves.

Significantly, this time, money raised by the sale of a top player is being re-invested. Which might go some way to softening the blow.

Rodgers , thankfully, isn’t resting on his laurels. He’s often spoken of being at the beginning of his plan, andit seems there are no signs he’s about to let anything tamper with his vision.

“Look, the bad times are just around the corner.

“So, no, I can’t really sit back and enjoy this. I had this last season, you know. We won the treble against Aberdeen and then three days into my break, I had this fear of complacency.

“It’s a fear I always have.

“We produced a document on the traps we must not fall into to ensure we succeed over the longer term. So, you can’t enjoy it too much.

“When you are gone, when you are out of it, you can look back and all the nice moments can become clearer for you.

“But not right now.”

Fair enough.

Allowing some of the players a wee break in Tenerife is part of that.

It means they can come back refreshed for the Sup final, which is the only game of real significance between now and the qualifiers in July.

Roma’s exit from the UCL last night means that unless Chelsea at least win two and draw one of their last three games, with Liverpool losing both of theirs, Celtic will be seeded all the way through the qualifiers, which makes it a little easier, and for that we must be thankful.

It means the seedings at present for the tournament are all but settled, and as i don;t want to get ahead of ourselves, we can look forward to a  game against one of this lot..

It’s regionalised at this stage, so expect a trip to the old country again. Or at least one we tend to go to at this stage.

It’s apparent to all that Rodgers is planning ahead, and Matthew Lindsay in the Herald would do well to note that.

That would prevent him making an arse of himself when he leads with headlines like this..

Celtic can hold onto Brendan Rodgers this summer – by breaking their £6m transfer record on Odsonne Edouard”

The implication is no Edourd, no Rodgers, which is not the case. It would have been easier, and more sensible to take the line that Celtic will have funds available to replace any key player who leaves, but that, as we know, isn;t what the SMSM want to tell us.

There is money available whether we sell or not. As the diary has already told you.

Congratulations go to those behind the campaign to have free womens sanitary products at Celtic Park.

Its not about providing them for those who cannot afford them, its about making a statement that these products should be free to anyone who needs them, and Celtic have done us all proud by being at the forefront of a wider campaign and making a statement.

Which leads us to a funny, but tasteless tweet…

There will be free sanitary towels at Celtic Park in women’s toilets. We will be donating the used ones to Ibrox since they cunts love being upto their knees in fenian blood so much.

Apologies to those of you having something to eat at this point.

Daley Blind, son of Ajax legend Danny, has been told he can leave Manchester united. Just saying, like…

It’s back to business on Sunday for Celtic, and the trip to Tynecastle should see starts for Patrick roberts and Scott Sinclair, whilst Oddsone Edouard will keep his place simply because he keeps scoring.

Revenge is in the air for the Hoops, who lost that unbeaten run up there-it seems so long ago, so put your money on at least a consecutive five goals for the good guys.

Hearts have mentally switched off for the season, as their defeats to and performances against Aberdeen and “rangers ” have shown.

We understand the players have been shown a training video to help them understand what has to be done…

Image result for basil attacks his car gif

Meanwhile, the lights are still on over at Ibrox, but it doesn’t look like anyone is home.

Two directors decided they would rather keep their shoulders nice and warm thank you , and they resigned yesterday.

Barry Scott , who is based in the far east, has more to fear from any cold shoulder sanction imposed on Dave king than most. The penalties in Hong Kong are a little more severe.

Full rules here…

developments-in-financial-regulation-in-hong-kong

As for Paul Murray, he’s done his best, and we’d like to recognise that by sending him a gift, a little something to show him our appreciation for making our days a little bit brighter.

I put a lot of thought into this, and went out and got him something he’s always wanted, something he has a real need for..

Image result for a pot to piss in

Its even got wee shamrocks on it to remind him where it came from.

Now whilst the events of the last few days at ibrox can be described in this picture.. tweeted by CarlJunglebhoy

As usual, the SMSM have got their heads up their collective arses, their fingers in their ears and their eyes fully closed- they’re putting a team into the world gymnastic championships- and its merely Dave clearing the decks-as we saw in the picture, for new investment..

As usual, there’s no sing of him putting any of his own money in, as has been the norm at ibrox ever since David Murray took over.

Initial investigations into any alleged chicanery at the club had stalled due to , well, stalling tactics, but happily there’s more than Police Scotland interested in the dealings of those already tainted years.

The web has been spun internationally, and whilst there’s safety in them there lodges, they won’t keep the more enthusiastic out…

There is talk of Chinese investment, there’s talk that Bill Ng, (remember him? ) is keen again, well, not again, he saw the books last time and broke the sound barrier as he left the building.

Chinese investment makes sense.

Why spend £11m on one player when you can buy the club for that ?

Although it will take a little more than that just to bring the accounts-should they ever publish any-back into the black. Soft loans, secured loans, running costs…

For the poor, beleagured “rangers ” support, Gary Ralston dutifully took orders from his master and once again ignored reality..

Rangers are looking to expand their boardroom influence as they seek to attract fresh investment at Ibrox.

Chairman Dave King has accepted the resignations of directors Paul Murray and Barry Scott as he prepares for a reshuffle of key personnel. Motoring tycoon Douglas Park was recently appointed vice-chairman
in a move that allied him even more closely with Johannesburg-based King.

They are now looking to appoint at least two new non-executive directors, not necessarily Rangersfans, with a view to opening the door to fresh investment at the club.

No announcement is imminent but King and his board are working behind the scenes to bring in high-calibre candidates to help compete with the financial dominance of Celtic.

King, who has also spoken of his desire for a female presence at the club, has promised Steven Gerrard a significant transfer budget if he agrees to take over.

Talks with the Liverpool icon are ongoing but despite reports a deal has not been concluded and discussions will continue later this week.

Ah, Gerrard.

After their seven in a row, we come to  Gerrard..

Image result for for fucks sake gif

There comes a point where hopes and dreams cross the border into simple refusal to accept reality.

Like standing by a dead dog in the road hoping it’ll somehow get up and run. ( Springsteen )

There will be no Gerrard.

There will be no investment.

And there’ll be no armageddon either.

This time, they won’t get away with it.

A number of grown up journalists are in possession of the facts. Some weren’t around when the first club died, and some were, and they think they have a career to save.

Those who ignore it this time will be quietly given features to do for the advertising supplements, after all, they’ve done a considerable apprenticeship over the last few years.

In fact, everything will  be just fine and dandy..remember  that summer I was talking about..

Image result for clear sunny day

Yesterday, we had this to contemplate..

I think Moussa and his advisors planned from Day One to have two good years at Celtic. He could learn and improve, score goals, put himself in the shop window.

That,IMO,changed as they realised that his allure was being tarnished somewhat by regular niggly injuries. So slight change of plan,we go for a third season, with a move at Christmas or at season’s end.

It was back to Plan A,get me out of here in the summer,as soon as he got assaulted in the League Cup Final.

Just my thoughts on it,based on nothing other than my few remaining brain cells sparking into life on occasion. Either way,I reckon it’s highly unlikely he will be with us next season.

I wish him well.

Moussa – a win-win for everyone (bar Spurs who let him slip through their fingers and duly cost Fulham some cash too.)

Moussa gets big game experience and exposure, cements his place in France U21s and already talk he is too good to stay at U21s so big team here he comes after World Cup. He moves to a good big club probably with European football next season and will get more financial rewards too after missing out on any cut of a big fee when coming to us..

We got a great striker for 2 seasons, lots of celebrations and will get some cash to reinvest and keep the project rolling along.

Rather have a program like this than the current Armstrong 1 year “whats happening Stuarty?” indecision

Enough Sevco already. For Zombies, they take up too much of our living time.
Celtic team for the near future (Europe):
Gordon/Bain
Ajer/Boyata/Hendry/Commper?
Lustig/Ralston
Tierney/Miller
Brown/Ntcham/Kouassi/Armstrong
Forrest/Roberts?
Rogic/Christie/McGregor/Musonda
Morgan/Sinclair
Edourard/Dembele/Griffiths
can go:Gamboa/Commper?/Simunovic
Strengthen: CD, left back, right back, another striker (to replace Dembele)sign Edouard.
I would try get McGinn from Hibs and Calum Paterson from Cardiff.
Rogic and Dembele may be for the off.

Ralph,

I supported the free sanitary products campaign on change.org because I firmly believed this was a just cause. I have to say, I have been quite blown away over the last 12 months by the response from companies and even the government on this issue. Therefore, I would like to congratulate Celtic F.C. for being the first football club to take action on this matter and to test-run the supply of free female sanitary products at Celtic Park.

However, this news has reminded me that, back in 2016, a certain blogger started a petition on change. org to address the lack of integrity and the injustice of issuing a European licence to a club that did not warrant it. An offshoot of this petition was an attempt to awaken what appeared to be a disinterested board at Celtic F.C. to the expectations of supporters. How sad so very few supported this petition which is, in a footballing if not humanitarian context, much more serious than sanitary products. It raises two questions. Did or do supporters simply not believe in the power of the people when they act decisively? Secondly, were we just as apathetic as the board about the injustices being perpetrated against all but one Scottish football club? If we had had the same kind of response to Ralph’s petition as that of the sanitary one, where could we be today with the SFA? Have belief in the power of the people. I see its impact regularly when it is united and determined.

or As I hear fairly often down here: “You can’t go anywhere these days without bumping into a fucking Pole.”

I don’t have a caption entry, but the picture is funny enough for me as are the responses above. Good effort all!
I would love to be a fly on the wall of some of these boardroom conversations, or these negotiations with Gerrard, just so I could hear exactly what it is these people are saying. How can anybody of rational mind be blinded to the fact that:
a) your rabid Chairman/support expect immediate success
b) who you think your rivals are, but are actually laughing at you, have a squad of players better than your entire starting XI, and relative money to burn
c) existing manager of said team is happy in his role, has experience and a track record
d) top to bottom the club is a shambles!!!
I checked into The Debate last night as I figured the Gerrard thing might come up, I hoped Bellamy would give me a bit of banter. Unfortunately he suggested he should not only take the job as “it’s an institution”, but should pull his boots on as he’d be head and shoulders the best player in Scotland?! I remember Bellamy telling a manky mob follower to GTF at an airport when Wales played Scotland and thought he still had a bit of chat about him, but was astonished by that last night.

Lest we forget
On this day joseph mary plunkett married his sweetheart Grace Gifford befor being executed.
Grace was the second youngest of twelve children. Her sisters, Nellie and Muriel, were also avid nationalists as well as converts to Catholicism. Muriel married Thomas MacDonagh, who was executed in Kilmainham earlier on the day Grace married Joe Plunkett. It was said of the Gifford girls: “whenever those vivacious girls entered a gloomy Sinn Féin room, they turned it into a flower garden”.

Fr Eugene McCarthy of St James’ Church in St James’ Street officiated at the wedding in Kilmainham Gaol just before midnight on 3rd May 1916. On their wedding certificate, Joseph Plunkett was listed as a bachelor with an occupation of ‘gentleman’ and Grace Gifford was listed as a spinster with an occupation of artist. The two British soldiers who were “witnesses’ were John Smith and John Lockerby (Sgt 3rd Battalion, The Royal Iniskillen Regiment).

In 1949, Grace completed a Witness Statement in which she recounted her memory of the wedding. On the evening of 3rd May 1916, she was, she said, taken to Kilmainham Gaol at 6.00 pm and kept waiting until around 11.30 pm. “When I saw him, on the day before his execution, I found him in exactly the same state of mind. He was so unselfish he never thought of himself. He was not frightened, not at all, not the slightest. I am sure he must have been worn out after the week’s experiences, but he did not show any signs of it – not in the least. He was quite calm.

I was never left alone with him, even after the marriage ceremony. I was brought in and was put in front of the altar; and he was brought down the steps; and the cuffs were taken off him; and the chaplain went on with the ceremony; then the cuffs were put on him again. I was not alone with him – not for a minute. I had no private conversation with him at all. I just came away then”. Immediately after the wedding, Fr McCarthy took Grace back to 53 James’ Street, which was the home of Mr Byrne, bell-ringer at St James’ Church.

Grace Plunkett rested here until she was awakened at 2 am as the military had sent a car for her to take her back to Kilmainham. Here she saw Joe for the last time, on the morning of his execution. The couple had just ten minutes together, but they were never alone. “There would be a guard there, and you could not talk. …… I was just a few moments there to get married, and then again a few minutes to say good-bye that night; and a man stood there with his watch in his hand, and said: ‘Ten minutes’”.

Following her second visit to Joe, Fr. McCarthy escorted her to a convent on Thomas Street where she spent the remainder of the night. The next morning, she went to her sister Katherine’s home on Philipsburg Avenue in Fairview.

Grace always claimed she knew nothing of the plans for the Rising, and that she and Joe never talked about it: “I shall have to read a book about the Rising as I know nothing of the military history of it”. However, after Joe’s execution, Grace became much more politically active and decided to devote herself through her art to the promotion of Sinn Féin policies and resumed her commercial work to earn a living. She was elected to the Sinn Féin executive in 1917.

Following the Treaty debates in 1921-1922, Grace became an anti-Treaty advocate and was, herself, imprisoned in Kilmainham. During her time in the prison, Grace painted many pictures on the wall of her cell, including a picture of the Madonna and Child, a reproduction of which can be seen through the door to her cell today.

When she was released in 1923, Grace had little money and no employment. Her parents never approved of Joe because they felt his health was never good enough for the two to be married, and Joe’s parents refused to honour her husband’s will, in which he left everything to his widow. Grace addressed Joe’s will in her Statement: “I had two notes from Joe during Easter Week. They had nothing to do with the fighting. He wanted us to be married, so that anything he had would come to me, because I had been thrown out of my home. He wanted to make sure that I would be alright. He and I realized that anything might happen – a stray bullet might put an end to him. In one of the notes, he suggested that we would be married by proxy. I could not understand it at all at the time, though I see his reason now. He wanted me to be secure.

These notes are in the National Museum. They would be very interesting to you, especially one that he wrote from Moore Street, to say that he stood by all his deeds and would not wish them undone. It was headed, “Somewhere in Moore Street”. He gave it to Winifred Carney. She was in jail after the Rising. When she was released, she gave the note to me. The note, suggesting that we should be married by proxy was written in Richmond Jail and given to a British soldier, who delivered it to me.

Joe’s Will is on the back of that note”. Legally, the will was invalid because there was only one witness (the law required two) and also the marriage took place after the will was made, automatically revoking it.

For years Grace received nothing, so she began legal proceedings against Count and Countess Plunkett in 1934. Finally, the Count and Countess settled out of court, and Grace was paid £700, plus costs. Grace Gifford Plunkett died suddenly, and alone, on 13 December 1955, in an apartment on South Richmond Street. After a funeral at St Kevin’s Church attended by the President of Ireland, Seán T. O’Kelly, she was buried in Glasnevin Cemetery.

The painting which visitors can see on the back wall of Grace Gifford Plunker’s cell in the East Wing of Kilmainham Gaol today is not, despite what many people think, by Grace herself. When Grace was in Gaol during the Irish Civil War, she obtained some crayons and covered the walls of her drab cell with many sketches, cartoons and the original Kilmainham Madonna. Between the time the Gaol was closed in 1924 and the beginning of the Restoration in 1960, the prison fell into ruin, the East Wing suffering more than most. The crayon drawings in Grace’s cell suffered badly

Listening to BBC Sportsound just now. Stupid me.
It’s the same old garbage. “ if Stephen Gerrard comes up here it will sprinkle stardust on Scottish football!” Accurate quote, believe me.
What planet are these people on?
No mention of money. – ‘He is well respected. He has connections all over the place.’
Is Gerrard going to get all these world stars to play in Scotland for peanuts? Do they really expect us to believe that?
This lot need to put aside the media party line and face up to the fact that Sevco are not only skint, they are up to the eyes in debt, sinking deeper by the day.
Get real. Sevco are on their death bed. They are a busted flush. It’s not another unproven manager they need no matter how well known he might be. It’s a reality check that’s required. The BBC should be ashamed of themselves pumping out this Lord Haw Haw stuff day after day. Roll on liquidation.
