Celtic Diary Tuesday April 10: Sky TV And SFA In Fixture Row ?

The dates for the post split matches have yet to be announced, they might have been by the time you read this, but as of this morning, nothing.

This despite the SPFL calling in an expert to help please everybody, such as the police, the tv companies , and the drivelling hordes that follow follow one of the more surprising top six finishers.

We hear that Celtic will play “rangers ” at Ibrox for a third time, on July 12. Which apparently will please everyone.

We also hear that there is talk of a glamour match between the two Glasgow sides for a new trophy, the King william victory shield, with all money going towards encouraging sectarianism in the game, which apparently is a big seller, except when one of the teams can win the league when they face each other.

The real truth, and you won’t find this in the media,

( because its bollocks?0-Ed)

(Yeah, that would stop them..Ralph)

is that Sky are desperate to have another Celtic “rangers ” game with something to play for, ever since the authorities put a block on cup finals between the two, and you can’t blame them.

Remember the last one, when someone flung a quid at a Rangers man in a bid to cause havoc ?

Image result for craig whyte david murray

And then there was the Hugh Dallas incident..

Image result for hugh dallas coin

That was big tv , and thats what the tv companies want.

The authorities, however, have two issues with this.

Firstly, they don’t want to see Celtic fans enjoying a league title win at the expense of their heroes.

More significantly, they know exactly how the ibrox support will react, which means they will have to fine the club, as their antics will be broadcast worldwide, and they really don’t want any attention on their own shortcomings, or anything surrounding the fledgling basket of assets, a basket which is getting smaller by the day.

To help combat pressure from the tv companies, the Hampden Ibrox Axis have called for help from their pals at the BBC, who rallied to the sound of the flute…

Er, its not the Old Firm, its not the SPL, but lets put that down to pure enthusiasm,

They had  another go..

Old Firm title decider should be avoided, says ex-police body chairman

Its not the Old Frim, its not a title decider and the guy isn;t a policeman.

Then again, its not really the BBC any more, is it ?

was consulted for his views..

[Police are] concerned with public safety and that will always be paramount,”

“The last few games have been brilliant to watch, a great spectacle and people have behaved themselves so why do we want to endanger that?”

….let’s not kid ourselves on. We all know that these games are supercharged and to make it the deciding game, whether it was 1999 or 1949, the circumstances haven’t changed and the police will always have the last say and for good reason.

“Why take the risk of taking backwards steps when it can be avoided? The game’s going to happen, why do you want to supercharge it?”

His consultancy must be booked up for years based on that sort of wisdom.

Wisdom that he shared with us back in 2011, when he was chairman of the Police Federation, after a Cup game saw Ally Mccoist throw his not inconsiderable weight around on the touchline…

“We simply don’t have the money and resources to do this. Everyone involved needs to sit down and look at this. Something has to give. This madness cannot go on.”

“What happens on the pitch is reproduced throughout Scotland, on the streets, in pubs, in homes. You cannot justify it. It can’t keep on going.”

He’s a consultant. For a living.

I wouldn’t ask him what time it was.

But I am on the point of why we always seem to play them in semi finals, and not finals…guarantees a showpiece game, but no trophy at the end.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the referee was instructed to make sure there’s a replay…

After comically creating and endorsing the same club myth, the Scottish football authorities have now created a situation where two of the clubs can never go head to head if there is silverware at stake.

Or, to put it another way, they have destroyed the games credibility beyond repair.

But we knew they would, didn’t we ?

The media, who act now more as a sort of PR department for the Hampden Ibrox Axis, did their bit yesterday to help shift season books at Ibrox, as they need the money desperately, and to help one of the league sponsors, they gave us another non story..

Frank de Boer the favourite in Rangers next manager odds

Dutchman de Boer is outright favourite for the role after King cast doubt over Graeme Murty’s future.

Former Rangers defender Frank de Boer this evening shot to the front of the betting to be next Rangers manager.

It comes just hours after chairman Dave King released a statement addressing the managerial uncertainty at Ibrox.

King praised Graeme Murty for stabilising the side post-Pedro Caixinha but went on to say his next managerial appointment had to be spot on as he would not consider his work complete until “Rangers has been restored to the top of our game”.

That has led to a general consensus that former Under 20s boss Murty’s second short stint in charge is likely to come to an end in the summer.

As, indeed, will the club itself, given the current financial climate over there.

There will be more names on that list as and when the sportswriters think of them.

Surely the gullibillies won’t fall for it again ?

Well……

The media will be going overboard, as usual, in the run up to the cup game this weekend.

We’re going to remind you of happier days, when the fans sportingly cheered each others goals, in a spirit of true sporting rivalry that has long since vanished…

On a sensible level,I know,I know.It would be utter madness to even consider playing the Huns in the game which isn’t even a decider. All Hell would break loose, think of the NHS staff etc.BR,I think, played it wrong asking for the game.I would’ve pointed out that ‘Why do we want to play a 6 year old “club/company” going for One?’Instead,he gives “them” credence by stating that it’s box office and would happen all over the World? I listened to the BBC evening sports programme yesterday. Although I don’t agree with everything he says, Mikey Stewart was like a dog with a bone when talking to Les Gray. To paraphrase, Mikey was looking for the current evidence base of football fans’ behaviour to be explored, instead of historical poor behaviour being wheeled out as a reason for all sorts of prohibitions.
To sum up, Les Gray was left appearing rather stupid and plodding in his arguments; even backtracking on his own statements. Clarity was not his strong point.

“The game saw the return to action of a few Celtic favourites, who were recognised by the home support. The return of Jimmy McGrory and Jimmy McStay were heartily welcomed by the home crowd. But when John Thomson’s primrose sweater was sighted, the cheering deepened to a great Rroooaaarr of welcome that might have been heard at Glasgow Cross.

“As for John Thomson the Celtic fans have already crowned him the worlds greatest goalkeeper. What hands to clutch and hold. Supposing the Celts kept the other ten indoors and sent Thomson out to face the foe, we would still get value for money”.

Watched Villareal vs Athletoco Bilbao on TV here in Espana. Score was 3-1 for Bilbao who ate 11the in La Liga, whilst our old friend V’real are 6th. The game illustrated that Celtic are at the bottom of a long hill. Spanish players have better technical skills, better vision of what is happening on the park. And these are not the best teams. Some horizontal passing but most passes are forward, trying to create opportunities.
No wonder success in Europe is a long way away. We need to get back to the basics……better ball control, better movement, more forward passing. Ordinary teams in Spain can do it, why not us?

Part of the problem is the refs who do not protect creative players. The system is broken and has been for years. A visionary leader is urgently required to transform our game. Is that likely?

Don’t know about anyone else on here but having played the game my natural instinct was to play a pass slightly ahead of the intended recipient so as to allow them to latch onto it without having to check their run or break stride?
For some reason at Celtic the flat pass seems to be the preferred option?
Made these same observations under Lenny and Deila btw so it’s obviously something they are being encouraged to do at Celtic.

Rebus67

Reply to  Charlie Saiz

Charlie,

I agree most of our passes are right to feet. Since many of these are also side to side, the intention is not to move the ball forward. Is it the plan to tire the opposition? Who knows!

Against packed defences why do we not simply stab the ball into a space for one of our attackers to run onto? This makes it very difficult for defenders as they chase an attacker and dread bring him down. Is it fear of losing the ball and causing a breakaway? Who knows!

One of the reasons that I like your suggestion of adding McGinn is that he can and does shoot from distance….useful against a packed defence.

Reply to  Rebus67

For me, it is all about movement. On the continent, top players move so well, they make it look effortless, whether its drifting into space, running between the lines or stepping off a marker, they work hard to give their team proper attacking options and quick a countering defensive out ball.

Our movement is shocking, especially through the middle. Ntcham can hold off and turn a player well and McGregor has good movement (off the boil recently) but that’s it. Brown finds space well but the rest look so lazy. Griffiths moves well but so often is outnumbered and crowded out.

Our players have to move and get involved, how often have we seen eg, Sinclair runs twenty yards with the ball, plays it back to Tierney then stands still as if to say ‘I don’t want the ball’. Ajer has won a lot of fans this season and I think its because he is one of the few that will take the ball on and make a pass in the right direction.

We look happy to pass it around at the back and wait for an opportunity and we seem to have forgot how to create opportunities and make things happen.

We can’t be allowed by the ruling body to play against sevco because we might clinch the league?

The match will be a powderkeg? What utter masonic tosh.

EVERY match against them is a powderkeg. So following that logic then none of them should be allowed. The Scottish Cup semi next week will be a powderkeg.

The main reasons for the delays in announcing the last five matches is purely down to finding least embarrassment for the establishment masonic wahoohs. They have the brassest of brass necks normally, so what embarrassments haunt them this time?

Could it be the fear of a riot of Manchester proportions? Pitch invasions?

Get the matches arranged. It’s your fucking job. There’s the real embarrassment you cretins.

My dad lifted me over the turnstiles to watch the Celts.

Walking down Janefield road, in the early sixties, by which time I was Celtic daft, my dad had already lifted me over the turnstiles many times. Say’s Jim McGovern, who for many years was M.P. for Dundee West. Jim tells of the time when his dad took him to the doctors in Maryhill in 1956, the family’s G.P. was “Fitzy” (Doctor John Fitzimmons) the Celtic doctor who was actually on Celtic’s books as a player in the mid to late 1930s. At that time, there was no appointments, you just joined the doctors que. My dad just nodded and said “See that boy with the red hair, he plays for Celtic, go over and tell him you are a Celtic supporter”. So I went over and introduced myself to….Jimmy Jinky Johnstone! I was overawed, imagine meeting a Celtic player in the que at the doctors, different days now to then.
The whole family were staying in a room and kitchen in Maryhill road (wonder if Jinky was visiting his pal Bertie) at that time.
“Fitzy” delivered my wee sister Angela in the “room” while my dad, older sister and I were sitting in the kitchen awaiting the new arrival. Happy day’s reflecting on Jim McGovern’s early days as a “Tim-Malloy”. When he got lifted over the turnstiles.

I don’t enjoy playing Sevco anymore than I enjoyed playing Rangers, now beating them is a whole different story. I always fall for all the press hype, look at the total nonsense about the Ipox game, people were allowed to write and say on media they had a chance of winning the league, it is when you look back you realise how much media manipulation goes on. The blogs, as ever, call it but the mainstream media just ignore the reality. Again for Sunday it could be a historic day for the new club their first major trophy and seeing us lose a treble but here we go again, a team not one of whose players would get in our 18,
are being “ touted” as winners; no humility, no 1 chance in a 100, no the ref might be needed. The media treat them as equal to us and their gullible fans swallow it. Of course if Celtic don’t turn up they can win, it’s up to Brendan, his selection, his tactics and his motivational skills will determine the outcome, Sevco are “ bit” players, one way or another its all about Celtic.

First time post folks and cannot let the comments by ‘police chief’ Les Gray pass without adding context. Mr Gray held a position with the Police Federation which is a toothless tiger with the sole remit of propping up whatever self serving clown who is holding the office of Chief Constable. I retired after 30 years service a few years ago and have been a season ticket holder for 20 years, and a supporter since birth. Make no mistake they do not want to see Celtic celebrate a league win against ‘thier’ club. The public are forever being fed the line that Police Scotland is second only in size and resource to the Metropolitan Police yet ensuring public safety seems to beyond them in this occasion. As we approach the summer months the Police will manage thousands of rabid Orangemen and coat-trailers all over Scotland yet a derby game fills them with dread! My arse. I speak from experience.

What an unbelievable comeback from Roma to knock out Barça in such dramatic fashion. Yes, they were hard and physical but they were also much more up for it than Barça, they were hungry and they were winning those 50/50 balls to dominate the game. Roma is packed with big strong players but they can also play a bit. Barça is unquestionably a more talented side but on the night they have been well beaten. Proof that the most elite teams are not unbeatable.

I’m still amazed by the media and the establishment trying to aviod Celtic winning title at home against “rangers”. It has been billed as a “Champions Decider” – to be that both teams would have to be able to win the league by winning the game! That is not the case at all. This is simply another league game and if Celtic win one more – we will be champions. I fail to see the need to have Sevco and their followers spared from having to watch another team crowned champions at home? Why would they avoid that and say Hibs or Aberdeen would have never even had this discussion. Oh thats right the fear of them causing violenc

Far more important we concentrate on Sunday than worry about where or when we win the league.
The way we have played of late i wouldnt be confident of beating anyone to clinch a title especially at home.
We deserve a performance of quality this Sunday.
We havent swept them aside but huffed and puffed against them the last couple of meetings.
For me the sideways movement, rotating the ball has become boring and easy to play against. I think we need to step up to the plate and show those fucks who we are.

The difference in this game is that it is winner takes all. It is a decider to get to the final and in that sense far more likely to invoke the mayhem that we are all being warned about if the desolate ones have to watch us win the league against them. Why is this game less tinder box than a league game? Actually both are important and intensity needs to be high. While we’d all like to sweep them aside – I’ll take a competent win any day control the game snuff them out and get to the final
