Celtic Diary Monday March 12: Just Another Glasgow Derby

Six years ago, there was a chance to put a stop to the unsavoury element that was following an unsavoury club. One which had promoted racism and sectarianism.

Sadly, the media and the establishment couldn’t face life without them, the green versus orange, the independent socialism v conservative unionism all makes for good tv, and so the demise of the club anchored in old imperial values was largely ignored, and when a new one took its place, the marketing lurched towards the more extreme sections of that support, as they were the more likely to plough their money into this new venture due to them having a large empty spce betwen their ears.

And a healthy dislike for catholics, Irish, independent minded Scots, socialists, blacks, Asians, Latinos and Scott Brown.

You reap what you sow, and all of those in positions of power and influence within Scottish football and Scottish society should have a wee read of the consequences of their tolerance, which is perversely offered to the least tolerant section of society.

But lets , to paraphrase a Scots poet, try to see ourselves as ” ithers ” see us…

The Birmingham Mail…

Ex-Aston Villa man Scott Sinclair victim of airport abuse following Celtic’s Old Firm win against Rangers

Former Aston Villa attacker Scott Sinclair was involved in an altercation at Glasgow Airport on Sunday evening.

The Daily Record have reported how the Celtic winger was in the BA lounge while waiting to board a flight when he came under attack from three individuals.

The attack is understood to be verbal rather than physical.

Police Scotland were called in and the three involved were prevented from boarding their flight and removed from the airport.

Sinclair was able to continue with his journey.

A spokesman for Glasgow Airport said: “I can confirm there was an incident in the BA lounge.

“Three individuals were removed from the flight and the airport by the police.”

Were any arrests made ?

Has any media outlet asked this question ?

If not, why not ?

Now, note the Mail picked up this story from the Record.

SkySports said;

Celtic’s Scott Sinclair was the subject of a verbal assault at Glasgow Airport in the aftermath of the Old Firm derby, Sky Sports News understands.

Police Scotland have confirmed that officers were called to the BA lounge at approximately 5.15pm following reports of a verbal assault.

Two men were subsequently spoken to and asked to leave the lounge, and no further action has been taken.

As you can guess, social media broke the news, which meant the nationals had to report it.

The first sign of the incident came with this …

So, this headline would have been perhaps accurate ?

Rangers fans abuse and attack Celtic player at airport

Not a headline you will see, and indeed the word “rangers ” does not appear in any report of the incident.

Maybe it wasn’t Rangers fans ? And maybe I’m a fucking banana, as Private Eye’s Ian Hislop once said…in a similar outburst where the obvious  was largely ignored.

In fact, you will struggle to find the words “racist “, “sectarian ” and “head butt” in the reports either, although the first two undoubtedly should be included, though the third is debatable.

Sinclair allegedly stood his ground and gave one of the assailants a close look at his unusually styled hair.

And so he should have.

So, why weren’t they arrested ?

This police officer, suitably attired for Ibrox, seemed to think he was on a sort of staff day out…

Believe it or not, you can order your police uniform online..

Image result for police scotland uniform with hi viz vest

some may decide to, er, customise their outfits, such as this chap…

Image result for police scotland uniform with hi vis vest

Nowhere on the official Police scotland uniform does the union flag appear, and I have trawled google for a picture of a vest similar to the one sported by the officer in the picture above-the tattooed one, not the cross dresser.

I couldn;t find one.

I’m sure the high heid yins at Police Scotland will have an explanation for this that makes perfect sense.

Or why a police officer is sporting a tattoo whilst on duty, and , as this officer would no doubt advise others, why it was not covered up as it may convey the impression that he is not entirely impartial in his judgements which consequently could have affected hius ability to do the job he is paid for at the particular sporting event he was “policing “…

Could you imagine, for instance, being arrested by this chap for singing the Soldiers Song, as he had deemed it offensive ?

Why do the police insist on making life difficult for themselves, and how can we expect them to make life easier for others ?

Then there was the march against fenians, a word which describes the Irish or catholic community in a way that is comparable only to the variety of words used in the deep south at those little conventions to describe  guests were dragged to the proceedings behind a truck and given a vantage point high up in a tree.

Publicly advertised, even with an image that is at the very least an incitement to violence..

The flyer has been labelled sectarian

FLYER PROBE

Cops launch probe into sectarian flyer advertising march to Old Firm game at Ibrox on Sunday by self-styled Rangers ultras Union Bears

The controversial group has sparked fury by advertising the parade to Ibrox as being before the ‘match against the Fenians’

A police spokesman said..

“We are aware of the content of the advert connected to the march, which permission has not been granted for.

“A criminal investigation has been launched into the wording and logo of the advert.”

and here’s the guy doing the investigation…

And here’s the guy he’ll answer to , an MP…

Okay, they might not be the actual individuals, but they are representative of what we are up against in Scotland.

In the twenty first fucking century.

One of them wants Leigh Griffiths tried for treason, after the Celtic striker waved the Irish tricolour, a flag by definition which symbolises peace on the island…

Oh, I think it will go viral…

Then when you consider the inference behind the march poster text, and the kind of people who it is aimed at…

Still, at least one man connected at Ibrox has taken a dose of reality..

So, titles in a row ? How many ?

Can you confirm that ?

All in all, it was just another Glasgow derby.

A sad reminder of a society that was once torn apart by sectarian and racial issues, a society which in many, many instances, has moved on.

But there are still pockets of resistance to change, pockets that cry no surrender, and until they are removed, and cleansed, society cannot move on.

There is no place in a modern society for any form of discrimination.

Whilst the media, the establishment and even the government turn a blind eye to this, and by doing this , are seen to encourage it, things will never change.

But, as long as the criminal events of the early part of this decade , and before, remain uninvestigated by a police force outwith Scotland, and as long as a compliant media and government pretend that nothing happened, days like yesterday will continue to be the norm.

Put simply, they are perhaps storing enough resentment, enough hatred and enough of a sense of injustice whilst turning the other way, that we may see a return to the chaos of yesteryear, and the extreme violence that came with it.

Or do we have to wait until someone is killed ?

Over what will be just another Glasgow derby…

Sorry, wrong badge…that is the old Rangers… something else no one ever asks about…

Hi,Ralph.

Outstanding article. Didn’t hit the wall, for sure!

I was discussing on another site that not all Rangers fans or players are huns. Nor do they behave as such. Your article got me thinking, which is unusual on a Monday morning as dr not th is more like me!

How much are the media to blame? They play to an audience, aye, but do they actually build that audience? If they reported things accurately and fairly, would Rangers supporters be whipped up into a fervour?

That march, for instance. If the media had condemned it for what it clearly was,it might have forced the police to act.

They didn’t. They HIGHLIGHTED it,free advertising.

And the police? When someone knows their actions are inviolate,no sanction, where is the impetus to behave like a responsible citizen? The police have an institutional problem dealing with Rangers supporters. They are petrified of them, even as they quietly condone their actions.

The pillars on which society relies are the rule of law and for freedom of the press. But both of those depend on impartiality.

Those charged with those responsibilities are letting us all down even as they laugh at us.

I’ve had the same thoughts recently. The SMSM – many of whom are huns themselves – have been complicit in lying in support of the same club myth and consequently have helped build seething resentment (coming from a sense of unearned entitlement) and fanned the flames of bigotry within a whole new generation of huns to new levels. Institionalised sectarianism and pro-unionist views within Police Scotland and across many sectors of society is an intregal part of the problem

I have seen the same at Celtic park, supporters caught up in the emotion saying things and I have even heard racist comments from so called Celtic supporters. Not every Celtic supporter is a saint and not every “Rangers” supporter is a hun, indeed my father in law supported Hearts since he was a lad, a sweeter man never existed, so lets not kid ourselves on, nothing is always black and white. You cannot tar everyone with the same brush.

I am fed up with not all of their fans are or decent XSDVFA fans

How can you be decent and give your coin to a club with their history
would a decent person buy anything from a company on the high street with their history Would a decent person bring their child to a place that is steeped in a history of official hatred bigotry Decent people condemn such places they do not frequent them thus allowing them to survive They came for xxxxxx I said nothing etc

Excellent, Ralph. One good reason I come to this Forum is to learn about things that aren’t reported fairly by the MSM. Anti-Catholic and anti-Irish sentiment (and racism) is built into the fabric of the British Imperial State. Tattoos say a lot about the person wearing them. That’s why they wear them. At some stage in his career you’d think somebody in authority might have asked tattoo polisman about what else he believes in?
Keep up the good work young man.
I’ve lost a lot of things over my seven decades but I’ve not lost the sense of joy at beating whoever lurks in Mordor. It’s one small way to remind the Dark Side that things won’t always go their way. What was sweet was that we also had to beat the MIBs as well. Big Jock said if you play well enough you can do that too—and the Bhoys did. IMO Jozo’s was a pretty clear red card but we wondered at Morelo’s delayed reaction once he heard the words “Red card…” from the linesman. But some heavy stuff against Tierney and Broonie went unpunished.
Scotty Sinclair, you’ve got thousands on your side. Keep on truckin’ mate.

Great article. Sadly nothing will change while the Authorities and media condone and in fact encourage such behaviour in Scotland. If the police don’t act against those suited yobs at Glasgow Airport then the club should. If our club stays quiet over all these issues then again nothing will change.

That’s the sevco chance of champion league money gone
They have a small possibility in the cup but once we put them to the sword in the semi-final, their downfall will accelerate
Hopefully hibs maintain the form and finish 2nd and the sheep up there game to finish 3rd. A cup final versus the huns from ayrshire or Lanarkshire means no euro jaunt for the scum.
One further note the linesman yesterday was pathetic and is a worse politican. He was hounded out of moray council as head of planning, maybe he should got back to being a farm labourer
It still disgusts me when I see him dancing around with a convicted pedophile at the independence voters count in elgin town hall.

Of course this is not the only time that Scott Sinclair has been racially abused, we had the monkey chanter from Girvan who was caught on camera at the 5-1 game.
In July 2011 Alex Salmond started and the Scottish government paid £1.5 mill. pounds to set up a new Scottish police unit to tackle sectarianism at football matches in Scotland, I don’t know if its still on going, so I requested that information from Police Scotland through a Freedom of Information request. A new code of conduct was implemented and set up which the police were to implement and the clubs including Celtic and oldco signed up to. Indeed the CEO of Celtic P.L. and the oldco CEO Alistair Russell both said similar statements, Russell said “His club was 100% on board with the new approach. I remember the head of the Human Traffic D.C. I. was demoted for making sectarian remarks to a Celtic supporting D.C. and she was subsequently transferred.
It is my belief that the gutter press are to blame for much of the continuing gutter remarks and are guilty of trying to promote sectarianism in Scotland. It is a National disgrace that Footballs Governing body are not fully involved in trying to stamp this filth out, but as long as the not so funny marchers continue with there bigoted bile, then the status quo will continue.

Title race? know your place….brilliant.

As we know Scotland has made significant strides from the bad ole days when racism, sectarianism and a whole host of isms were endemic. Next time your out look around you and you can see and hear how diverse we are as a nation, it’s brilliant. Yet sadly theres still an element that runs through all strands of society who have some sort of hatred, dislike for Catholics and the Irish. St Paddy’s day parades are a joy for many and folk from all backgrounds join in. Why can’t we have a St Paddys parade in Scotland? Why is their marches on our streets that are intolerate of a certain section of Scottish societies religious beliefs? Why are a large section of football supporters allowed to sing songs were they’re “up to their knees in Fenian blood?”
Can you imagine the furore if the word Jewish, Asian or black was inserted? Theres still work to be done, people need to be educated and efforts are being made. Sadly for me, i’ll always take the position on we’re all Jock Tamsons Bairns as nomsense even though we’re a very diverse nation, due to the anti Catholic, anti Irish, anti your not one of the people that runs from the idiots in the schemes, through our civil services, churches, financial institutions right up to those who sit in positions of power within the Scottish political scene.

I used to do daft things like going to matches against them by train. Why I subjected myself to these ordeals I don’t really know. When Johnny Doyle died, the match after I went on the underground to Mordor and the disgusting stuff relating to the wee man coming from them was nearly unbearable. How they never sussed me out is beyond me. Probably never thought a wee Tim like me would dare to enter the bear pit. Then, and this is absolutely true, I went into the stadium bar for a couple of pints. One Fenian in a sea of shit. Magic.

For years the establishment either support these knuckledraggers or are frightened to confront them.
The responsibility to start demanding change lies with the board at Parkhead.
Refuse the media access, demand safety checks prior to games at Ibrokes, request meetings with the Police to demand fans safety.
Threaten legal action if any player or supporter is affected by the authorities lacking to carry out their duties.
Have a St Paddy day celebration at Paradise and advise that this is the norm in the civilised world.

Steve,
I hear what your saying, young Hendry is one for the future & i would like to see Bain signed as a number two.
In the summer serious investment is required to construct a quality defence, i feel we need a right back and two central defenders.
If Ralston could do a Tierney at RB, that would allow Lustig to play back up to the younger player, Ralston HAS to be good enough though, we can’t just put him in because he’s young, he has to nail the position down, get in the side & do a Tierney.
Simunovic & Boyata out!
Be interesting to see how Erik Sviatchenko is doing at Midtgh….midtygghh….midtyy…erm in Norway, maybe it’s not all over for him at Celtic.

What’s wrong with Dundee signings, its what football talent they have that counts, Armstrong came from Dundee Utd. and most Celtic supporters would say that he was a good purchase at a price that we can afford. Bain is a good keeper he proved that on Sunday, he even took cross balls, how good was that, also young Hendry was a Celtic youngster and he to is a good player. Most of the Lions were Scottish, there was nothing wrong with them was there. Besides they cannot close the biscuit tin, there’s far to much inside it.

The deal for Odsonne Edouard is €7m Euro i believe, a wee while back i would have baulked at that but it’s starting to look a bit more realistic.
These days transfer fees are rarely paid up front in one down payment, if Celtic could negotiate this figure down a bit & pay it over a couple of seasons, i think it would be a good bit of business.
He is young, strong, pacey & can finish, he also has a sample of the Celtic way of life now.
I would do it, i think he has a big future.

Would be interesting to see if he could lead the line regularly…..if/when Moussa moves on!

Mike, meant the players signed from Dundee, nothing wrong with them, after all the Lions didn’t do too badly but, in a European context, against fast moving, athletic teams we need better. It’s okay against those wee provincial teams like yesterday but, as I said before, strengthen from here. I agree with Monti, let’s put ourselves out of sight for seasons to come.

Steve,

We all want the same for Celtic, success on the park, two central defenders at £3 mill. pounds each yes no problem and a new right back
well I have hopes for young Ralston. I think that young Ajer is going to be a top player coached properly and I also think that young Hendry could be an excellent purchase. I can see Brendan bringing in young Odsonne from PSG at the end of the season, but yes I totally agree a better centre half would serve us well, its clear to see that Boyatta and Jozo should be gone and Lustig his contract ends in 14 months along with Boyata’s so he will need properly replaced, you should not gamble with C.L. entry, so we must be ready for it, next season.

I don’t like Eric and I don’t like Jozo, one is bullied on the park and the other is usually injured, we could/ should do better or get better in as for Ralston he is a more defensive right back, stronger in the tackle than Lustig who is shot, time for him to leave. We need two new centre-halfs quality ones and a right back who can defend, its easy to see where the weakness in the team is.

Reply to  Mike

Mike I watched the Jozo incident again it’s a straight red no question. He intended to elbow ihom in the face totally stupid. But he is still a good player. I think with players of his equal at the back he would shine. One of our better players. A ball playing hard tackling cb whos good in the air.

Mike

Reply to  Iancelt67

Ian, I believe that the most important thing that the defence needs is a quality defensive coach, I like listening to Willie Miller the ex Dons captain and Scotland centre-back. He talks the most sense and his experience is second to none in the Scottish game.
Our defenders are all over the place, they lose concentration or let opposition players get ahead of them, they get out jumped at the back, they are good going forward but as Willie says “defending is an art”
you have to learn it and and to me, we do not have the right coach at the club. Boyata always loses concentration and makes stupid mistakes, all the time. Jozo when he’s fit, he makes mistakes and get’s red carded in bigger games, Lustig WAS a good player but injuries have taken there toll, every player has a shelf life and his is well past his sell by date. In essence what I’m saying is, we have 3 young defenders who WILL improve but they need to be coached properly and we need currently better defenders in…now.

What I’ve seen of Ralston, although young, looks stock standard, ordinary and cart horsish and won’t bring anything to the team that isn’t there already. My guess is he end up at Motherwell then some obscure club in belgium if he’s lucky. He’d be featuring more if Rodgers fancied him

He needs to show in training that he will work his arse off, wgen he get’s a chance he needs to grasp it & don’t let go.
Look at Tierney as an example….

Agree mike miller is one of Scotland’s best ever defenders how he didn’t get into a top English team is beyond me great player and would outshine Kennedy in the role good call. But the stigma is is that we always go for one of our own. Fuck that get the best available. It’s about getting an optimal response

Aye but what about Celtic supporters going to follow follow land to watch the team playing at the bigot dome, or putting money into the corrupt governing bodies of Scottish football. Surely you have a duty
to yourself to stand up for what you believe in, a greater duty to ensure that the causes that you believe in, you self act on. There is no excuse in saying oh the board should do this or the press say that.
You petition the board, you do not buy a bigoted press, you avoid putting monies into a corrupt football club, you abstain from going to Hampden, in short you have a self moral duty to stand up personally and be counted.

A veey beautiful sunday indeed was had by one and all in green n white.
There is no doubt sevco have improved and they are in contention for second spot.
Yesterdays officals once again gave a chance to the team on blue to get a result.
It was indeed a red card but John should have went in the first half his lunge at Rogic was far more dangerous than Jozos im sure he also had a lunge at forrest.
On the lead up to the huns first goal Forrest is clearly fouled not once but twice and although boyata made an arse of it we should have had a free kick near the corner flag.
Persistant fouling going unpunished and Dembele booking is just a fuckin joke. Are they now trying to get his points totals up.
However magical the invincible season was last season every title will now have to be won the hard way. There is clearly an agenda to stop Celtic by any means possible. How sweet it is to know they cant and wont be able to do so.
With Armstrong Roberts Leigh and Gordon all coming back to fitness lets hope Sonclair finds his form and Edouard kicks on from here.
Aint no stoppin us now.

Well Southampton sack Pellegrini, That’s what happens when you sell off your best players, sounds like Dundee Utd. What a money they must of made from player sales, especially from us, so they are…
“caught in the middle” like us. The only difference is the scale of it
all. But when you think about it, they do not have the Celtic to be there cannon fodder of players any more, now that we recognise the true value of our players, most of whom could make it in the EPL.
So hard chedders Saints, I have no doubt that if they survive in the EPL Celtic’s door will be getting severely chapped in the summer.
Oh there she is Summer, walking hand in hand with a “Gordon for me, a Gordon for me, if your no a Gordon, your nae use to me.

Well I’m of to Montrose to see about some new ewes, the best thing on four legs, there has been one hell of a lot of dogs on the loose, harrying and killing sheep, in Perthshire there is an epidemic of dogs killing sheep. Now I love dogs, I’ve always had them, but I also love my sheep, so please if you have a dog, don’t let them loose near farm stock and if you are walking them make sure they are on a lead and shut field gates after you. You ken you want to.

Look we all have to step up and put an end to the inherent bigotry in Scotland. Scotty Sinclair needs to report these people who attacked and defiled his whole being. What could happen next time is that he has his wife and small children with him. Scotty don’t let there be a next time, out the bigots and racists and let’s make Scotland a multi cultural place to live in peace , I love the rivalry BUT the people have to start living in the real world under the same rules and laws as everybody. Let everyone step up and put an end to Scotland shame once and forever.
