Celtic Diary Sunday March 11: Part Two: After The Game

It didn’t quite go as planned, but when it didn;t Celtic adjusted, dug in, and produced a victory over at Ibrox, though they certainly made it harder than it should have been.

Dedryck Boyata, brought back into the side after injury to provide a scapegoat in case things did go wrong, duly obliged after being caught in possession after just two minutes, allowing Josh Windass to sprint toward goal and open the scoring.

Scott Bain, making his debut in the place of injured Dorus Des Vries had no chance.

However, Tom Rogic doesn;’do a great deal during any given ninety minutes, but the bits he does do count, and he curled an equaliser past a despairing Foderingham just eight minutes later. The world had returned to its axis, and Celtis were in control.

But the three at the back system makes our defenders nervous, and no one seems quite sure who should be doing what and where, which allowed an unmarked Candeias to put the home side back in front.

2-1, and the game was starting to look a little ragged, a little like a schoolboy fixture, with lots of perspiration, but little inspiration.

Moussa Dembele pulled Celts level with a cool chip over the Ibrox keeper, after Scott Brown had elected to pass forward instead of sidieways, and that concluded the first half action, and allowed Celts to regroup.

They had to regroup again after a delighted linesman dougie ross saw his chance to help his buddies when jozo Simunovic raised an elbow which sort of connected with Alfredo Morelas, and although the colombian would have heard the linesman screaming “Red Card , Red Card ” , he still figured it would help if he pretended he’d been shot.

Simunovic went, and Hendry replaced Rogic and Celtic adjusted, and as they adjusted, “rangers ” waited for something to happen.

It did.

Oddsone Edoaurd drifted a wee bit wide, then a wee bit central, and scored what proved to be the winner.

Image result for and there was much rejoicing gif

The game won’t be remembered as a classic, though “rangers ” deserve credit for at least thinking they could win. What they did though, was take their best shot, and even against ten men and a dubious trio of officials, who were inconsistent at best, and downright cheats at worst, they failed.

Thats it for them. it won;t get any better unless they surprise Celtic at Hampden and knock the hoops out of the cup.

I’d like to think we’ll deal better with their enthusiasm next time, although their confidence, built up by an admiring media, will have taken a serious knock now, and it will be all that manager Murty can do to stop a slide into mid table between now and the end of May.

Celtic, on the other hand, discovered that bit of steel that had been missing for a few months, and as we approach the business end of season, that will come in useful.

Plus points go to Scott Bain, who could have fell apart early on, and even Dedryck Boyata, who recovered from a disastrous start and just kept things simple.

Olivier Ntcham was strong and dependable, and once he works out how to take a free kick or corner will be a valuable and influential part of the team.

Dembele worked hard and got his reward with another goal, and Edouard reminded Rodgers that he is worth keeping on, even at the price quoted.

But three at the back, no, it doesn’t work, and “rangers ” exploited the width to make more chances than they ought to have.

And maybe we could vary things a bit from time to time, better teams than “rangers ” will take advantage of our inflexibility, and we still have a Cup to win.

Other than that, nine points and a game in hand ?

It looks like Celtic will become the first team to win seven in a row twice.

And a few people are hurting about that..

Replying to

Fucking disgraceful. They were there for the taking and you fucked it

Replying to

Appoint a manager and sell that mongo Morelos

Oh, Morelas missed a sitter, a proper Sebo moment when he struck the ball against the post late on after Bain had parried.

He’s worth every penny of that £11m , as most strikers would have missed the post completely and probably scored.

for all of those who are licking their wounds right now, those who trumpeted the return of “rangers “, please spare a thought for this chap, who couldn;t give a toss and wants us all to know that.

Finally, according to Radio Clyde,

Graeme Murty says the 3-2 defeat to Celtic is the most disappointing result he’s had as a manager.

Bless him,

Image result for graeme murty rangers 2 celtic 3

I’m sure he’ll have many more even more  disappointing results  before he’s finally out of there…

and our Brendan ?

He seems quite pleased..

Image result for brendan rodgers rangers 2 celtic 3

“There was a lot of noise before the game, but that’s natural – they’ve been on a good run and at home, thinking they could get the victory.

“But I think the players today showed their quality and that real champion mentality. It’s a big step for us to go nine points clear with a game in hand, but we still have a lot of work to do.

“But an absolutely brilliant win and a great day for the supporters.”

It is.

Stay safe, and remember, you’ve got work in the morning.

As I posted last week, that gollum and the tory fucking linesman would be the problem. Hopefully that is the end of the honest mistakes. The masons in the black have nothing left for the semi final.

On your earlier Crufts theme I was walking the dugs this morning and a guy turns up in his orange Sevco scarf shouting on ‘Broxy.’ A wee bugged eyed mongrel that was having a smell at the dug shit and then having a fly wee lick. In fairness though his dug behaved impeccably.

First we had Dallas gate and now we have Dougie gate, of topic but why T F is one job not enough for that piece of shit, must be because he wants to be pish at both I suppose. Of topic again, but how come the Dandies are like the mini huns wearing a blue strip, have they run out of red and maroon dye, I’m still confused dot com. Go Compper
awe shut up. The green trio of wins, Hibs, Ireland and the best one of all….Glasgow Celtic. The team showed character after that dreadful start 10 men against 13 and then we lost another player.
Skill, character, power and pace add a dash of steel and a winning mentality. Still Durty Murty’s Dad will be celebrating, the only thing missing is a defence to be proud of and surely the usual culprits have to go in the summer. Some great performances and new stars, join the auld yins like Broony my kinda player and my MOM again. They wilny say it, but surely they know it, another title’s in the bag, only another cheating mason will stop the fabled back to back trebles, well they are worth it. God Bless Celtic.

Ha ha, ha ha, ha ha hahaha ha.

Bain – 5 – Some good saves, some he should have done better.

Forrest – 6 – Poor deep but good forward.

Ajer – 5 – Starting to look like a centre half

Jozo – 6 – Solid, unlucky at red card.

Boyata – 1 – Prick

Tierney – 4 – Poor today but lots of effort. A number of bad fouls

Brown – 8 – Up against 2 or 3, kicked after passed almost every time.

Ntcham – 7 – Played well, found space, passed well.

Rogic – 7 – Some goal, very quiet after 2 footed tackle.

McGregor – 6 – ok out wide, more effective in the middle

Dembele – 7 – Not on the ball a lot, superb run and dink.

Hendry – 5 – looked a wee bit off the pace

Armstrong – 5 – Hardly involved

Edouard – 7 – Won it.

Rodgers – 5 – Close game against a team we should be miles ahead of. Good changes after red card.

We done the business, collum was their best player, closer than it should have been.

Harsh assessment of most players Doc – our average is pretty low based on these numbers average of 5 ++ . Sevco must have been really bad

Doc

Reply to  BroxburnBhoy

I think its fair, Boyata brings down the average with an abysmal showing. That’s a team that is there for the taking, that is them at their best and us being average, we are a few tweaks away from doing teams serious damage.

Scoreline flattered them, felt we should have had at least two penalties: Mcgregor is fouled in the box (1 of 4) before morelos offside and Tierney plays it across goal but is caught late, high and two legged challenge by their keeper.

Today should shut them up.

I’m sure every papers ratings will be higher than mine after they spent all week talking up sevco as a good team rather then the fiscal basket case they are.

I’m happy to win at the bigot dome as always, but i’m not too getting carried away. We beat a poor team, albeit 10 v 12, they’ve had to lay off backroom staff and we’re laughing at their ‘star’ striker. We should be spending a chunk of our £30m and hammering nails into their coffin.

Broxburnbhoy

Reply to  BroxburnBhoy

Make no mistake this result was a nail in their coffin. They were unable to beat us with 10 men and multiple errors at the back. They have a team of loaners, unable to sell the dudes they do own and their “confidence” will be blown apart again. That said they are a second or third rate Scottish Team that is in deep debt. I wonder how confident they’ll be for our next meeting? I’m sure they will be back to the “gap getting smaller” pish. For us onward to wrap up the title and hopefully the Double Treble!

A Tory MP screaming “Red, Red, Red” who`d of thought it ??
Lesser fans would be hunting for this guys address and planning protest marches from the Louden.
Thankfully we are used to adversity & corruption! Despite playing a 3rd choice keeper (who was excellent btw), fragile defenders & down to 10 men -thanks to inept/cheating officials. We put the sevco rats firmly in their place.
Be careful out there tonight Bhoys – remember a lot of their fans used to support rangers(rip) and we all know what they were like !

Sometimes no matter what our players do, we have fans who think it makes them clever & knowledgeable about football. Really the opposite is true , as any through Celtic supporter would be over- come by the excitement of the occasion and score the players from 6 up to & over 8 .
Boyata needs our support , we want him playing as he was before his injury , a rating of 1.is just pure stupid and is the type of rating that Ambrose started to get after his bad experience in Europe . It got to the stage he never recovered his confidence at Celtic, but now at Hibs is one of the best centre halves in Scotland

mate your team ratings are mince, far too low. brown, ntcham, mcgregor and dembele were all outstanding. And once we were down to 10 the team worked there arses off and defended well.

Doc

Reply to  jebus

Brown, Ntcham and Dembele got good ratings, McGregor was good but didn’t do anything special, a number of good runs but final ball could be more effective, where as Edouard made a big difference from a position McGregor was in a few times.

I dont think boyata’s bomb scare of a display should deflect from a good performance by us. There were several top performances out there. Boyata will be gone in the summer. the gerry and hendry will be our defence. btw simo got nutmegged by a paint brush which went on to hit the post from 3 feet out later on.

Mike

Reply to  FredDDobbs

We need another two centre-backs and a right back, Lustig and Gamboa are like Boyata and Sumo….mince. We are good in the midfield areas Broony and Ntcham plus Kouassi. We are really good up front with three good strikers and two wingers.
Why tho. was Musunda brought in, Paddy at least nearly the finished article, no doubt that Musunda has talent but for the SPFL? Bains contract is up in the summer and he should be signed up as back up to Gordon, Devries will go in the summer.
We need a new defensive coach, someone who can teach the younger ones the art of defending. Highlight for me is the….three wonderful goals..top quality, sign up Edouard.

Why did Collum(cheat) not run up and ask the Orangeman shouting ‘Red Card,Red Card!’ eh,’Could you please tell me why it’s a red? Well i thought it was a ‘classic’. This was a decent rangers performance and at 2-1 i was beginning to fear the worst. This was a most enjoyable victory. I remember the last time we had a man sent off and came back to win 3 – 2. (10 men won the league 1979 of course)

If there was a quality defence we would have walked all over an average Sevco.
Bain did well being flung in st the deep end 6
Ayer did well for his age 7
Boyata can he get any worse. 1
Simo poor poor defender. 4
Tierney solid and dependable 8
Brown kicked to fuck and Gollum did nothing 9
Nytcham imperious at times 9
Rogic what a goal, what a leg breaking tackle 8
McGregor usual hod carrier. 7
Forrest held the ball up. 7
Dembele showed his class 8
Edouard what a goal. 7
Hendry did what he had to do 5
Armstrong. 4
The format of the game was hysterical, they must be in deep depression after taking the lead, and Gollum and Ross sending off Simo.
A nice way to win and return them to despair, Now onto the treble as they are pish.
It is obvious to the board that they have to spend to. Bring in two quality defenders for the UCL qualifiers.
Away out for a swallow

I must say watching the game from a very good CSC this was the sweetest of victories considering the upbeat propaganda from the MSSM all week and the absolute awful officiating today.
This was their big day, a moment to hall back the relentless advance of the Mighty Tims but even with fourteen men against eleven it came to nothing for them.
They must all be thinking, when will we beat this lot?
Not for a long time yet it appears.
I have been a critic of BR most of this season and three at the back gave the zombies to much width against us today, even before we went down to ten men and is not the answer in every game but, his substitution to bring on Eduardo was just brilliant and all the plaudits must go to him as even down to ten men we still managed to carve out a little space to tuck away another sublime goal, all three Celtic goals today were a thing of beauty, hun goals were our gifts to them which even they couldn’t capitalise on regarding the end result.
Our defence didn’t start to play like a cohesive unit until we went down to ten men!! I’ll leave that for you to comment on, Monti may be correct concerning DB but BR seems to like him??
So nine points clear with a game in hand and things are looking good domestically.
Hendry and Bain are good for the future but we do need quality CB’s to steady the ship and give the rest of the team a bit more confidence going forward.
I did say a couple of months ago that the measure of the Board’s ambition will be the quality of the defence recruits they bring in the January window and the evidence is there for all to see regarding recruitment over that period! Not good enough.
But onward’s and upwards and Bravo to BR for the result today.

Great result. Need to get a proper defense. Actually we’re lucky it wasn’t 3-3. Everyone except BR knows this is his weak point. He can’t recognise a good defense or organise one. He needs proper help in that area so he can concentrate what he is really good at. Also needed: Someone who can take set plays and an understanding of the kind of balls Dembele prefers.
