Celtic Diary Tuesday February 13: CSA Send Rallying Call to Support

Wheels turn quite quickly in the digital age, although it may not always seem that way.

The Celtic Supporters Association have issued what many see-okay, me- as a rallying call to the support to get behind not just change, but the right type of change at the SFA.

With Stewart Regan gone, Andrew MacKinay going and a few others desperately scanning the Situations Vacant columns it looks like there will be a real opportunity for change, and the CSA main man, Joe O’Rourke, has urged Celtic fans to strike while the iron is hot.

From the CSA website..itself worth a visit..CSA

Maybe through the shambles surrounding the SFA and Stewart Regan’s resignation there can be a positive outcome, it would take a bit of time, but Scottish Football could be saved if the right action was taken and the right people were installed in the important positions.

Regan made all the promises at the start, he promised transparency and accountability, and although he certainly wasn’t innocent, he would never have imagined how much power and influence the people he was going to work with wielded in Scottish Football.

All the power doesn’t have to be inside Hampden, think of the influence you have if you are a main sponsor of say the Scottish Cup, or the company with the television rights to show games, with all due respect who wants to watch games that don’t involve Celtic and Sevco, and maybe for different reasons.

The main stakeholders in Scottish Football, the ones who pay through the turnstiles every week, are the ones whose opinions are ignored. The biggest support in Scotland is undoubtedly Celtic, and by that statistic the ones who invest the most financially is the Celtic Supporters, but in contrast, the ones who get shafted the most is the Celtic Support.

I have followed Celtic for over 60 years and can never remember a time when our support and team weren’t cheated by referees, and it’s still rife today, you only have to look at Saturday’s display by McLean, 21 fouls against Celtic resulted in one yellow card for a Thistle player, the previous week at Kilmarnock we had 3 yellow’s from 6 foul’s, using that analogy the whole Thistle team should have been booked.

But let’s look for a positive from the whole sorry episode. Peter Lawwell and Celtic tried to show a bit of leadership a few months ago by asking for an independent review into all the goings-on within Scottish Football, we never received any support for that from Regan and his cronies within the SFA, and by his cronies I would identify them as McRae and Petrie, they are the ones with the most to lose, and more importantly the most to hide.

There is now an opportunity for all football supporters to put pressure on their respective club leaders to now back Celtic’s call for an independent review. We also need supporters to demand the removal of McRae and Petrie if they don’t agree to resign with immediate effect.

Scottish Football needs to divorce itself from the influence of Sevco and Sevco men. There was a clamour for Smith to be offered the Scottish Managers job, why were the media not shouting for Kenny Dalglish who is four years younger than Smith. Dalglish actually played for Scotland, and had a very successful managerial career in the English premiership. Watty has exactly the same number of Premier League winners medal’s and International Caps as me.

At this stage I’m actually not sure who is in control, is it McRae, ably abetted by Petrie? The silence coming from Hampden is deafening, the supporters are once again in the dark. The best man for the CEO job in Scotland is Peter Lawwell, and thank God he is already in a better job with Celtic, and so therefore not available. But I’ll bet you one thing, ask him who he would recommend, and I’ll bet it would be someone capable of dragging Scottish Football into the 21st century, but McRae and Petrie probably don’t have Peter’s number, he probably refused to give them it.

All of which is absolutely spot on.

In order to bring about any kind of change, those who hold the real reins of power must first decide to get together, and then decide how to use that power.

Celtic supporters coming together is just the first step, this concerns all fans of all clubs, including whichever entity is in power at Ibrox at any given time, after all, their fans have suffered quite a bit as well, with their club being passed around like a tobacco pouch in prison, from crook to crook and back again.

Get behind the CSA, get the Celtic Trust involved as well, and then reach out to fans of other clubs.

Nothing will happen unless we make it happen.

The excitement, or fear, continues to build ahead of Thursday Europa League match with Zenit St Petersburg, who for a team very few of us know anything about are sending the collywobbles through an already anxious support.

What do we actually know about them ? And what frightens us so much ?

Since they kicked back in after their break, they’ve only played friendlies, so its hard to judge any level of form…

MATCHES

Their league form ? again, largely irrelevant as their last game was back in Decemeber, but before the break, they’d won two out of five.
So why the hullaballo ? Why the talk of damage limitation ?
Dorus des Vries has been talking to the media.. the man who conceded seven to Barcelona feels he can make amends for that, which would put some of our fears to bed.
And look, he didn’t drop his gloves, so he’s getting better..
Celtic keeper Dorus de Vries applauds the Parkhead fans.

“Barcelona are exceptional and they were exceptional on the night,”

“Everything went for them. It seemed like shooting practice at times. But that is part of being a team, it is part of being a goalie.

“You learn from it, you go on and you make sure that you keep on going mentally and prepare yourself for the next game and keep going. It is just part of it.

“Of course, you are always looking to rectify certain stuff and be better in the next game. You learn from every opponent in every game whether you win, lose or draw. You always try to take the positives, look at the negatives, and see what you can learn.

“That counts for Barcelona or Partick Thistle. It doesn’t matter, it doesn’t change. You want to perform and you want to win, if you don’t win, don’t lose. And if you lose, you see what to learn.”

Er, that hasn’t made me feel any better at all.

And I was quite optimistic up until I read that.

I know, lets look at some stats. We can dress them up any way we want, cant we… ?

Zenit have been winning at both half time and full time in 6of their last 7 matches (UEFA Europa League).
Zenit have won 6 of their last 7 matches (UEFA Europa League).
Celtic have failed to win their last 11 matches (UEFA Europa League).
There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Zenit‘s last 6 games (UEFA Europa League).
Zenit have scored at least 2 goals in 5 of their last 6 matches (UEFA Europa League).
Well, perhaps not all statistics.
And we won;pt bother at all with Celtic’s home record.
so is it worth us actually turning up, now that I’ve managed to talk myself out of even checking the score afterwards?
Of course it is.
Well, taking all of this into account, there should be no pressure on the team. Perhaps that is the plan. Lull them into a false sense of security, the ultimate mind game between managers…
This is a team short on belief, but that will come back at some point. Thursday would be nice, and all the manager has to tell his players is that they are good players, more than capable of dealing with anything at this level,  and they must believe that.
They are capable, in fact if they were half as good as I think they are, then they’d be twice as good as they’re showing.
Off the park, here’s an idea.
Russians aren’t used to heat, this, for example, is St Nicholas Cathedral, which is in the city, in mid July last year        ( probably )
Image result for st petersburg in the snow
In Palace Square, on the same day, all transport was taken off the road and replaced by horses due to the weather..
Image result for st petersburg in the snow It played havoc with the councils Summer Festival schedule.
So, here’s the plan…
Image result for dick dastardly gif
Turn the heating full up in the away dressing room. Put the chairs next the radiators and nail them to the floor.
You can also get a wee silica based powder which heats up when shaken about a bit. Put it in their boots. Their toes won’t know whats going on and their bodies will shut down the supply of blood to them, causing them to remain in their boots when they take them off at half time.
From our own point of view, we should just give it our all, both the support and the players.
And perhaps someone could tell Keiran Tierney that its great doing everything he can for the support, but surely filling in at their work is a step too far…
Piece of piss this management lark.
Now that we’ve solved that problem, we can turn to a new section in the Diary, called

Practical Parenting

Today we have some helpful advice from Twenty Rothmans on twitter, and its for those of you who feel that your son, or daughter, is perhaps secretly texting about the IRA, an organsiation still frowned upon by police and Manchester shopping centre owners…

There’ll be more hints for parents as and when we come across them, if we can be arsed.

Ach, lets try to cheer ourselves up.. here’s the crowd figures across Europe so far this season..

Notice that all the other teams come from countries with populations quite larger than Scotland, and from countries where their media genuinely encourages them.

I think we can be proud of that.

Having looked at the SFA rule book the correct decision is free kick to Thistle, Dembele red card for dangerous play, 4 match touchline ban for Neil Lennon and the removal of the flag from Celtic Park.

Confer with the Stand Side Linesman – as he is furthest away. Send Neil Lennon to the stand. Award a penalty against Celtic and report Hoopy the Huddle Hound to the local dog catcher.

As far as the Europa league goes, i think we will go out with a whimper over the two leg.
We have a defence that can only be describes as the new sieve, we almost lost three goals at home to Partick Thistle?
What do people think the Zenit strikers are thinking watching footage of that?

With DeVries in goal and a collection of Statues and comedy acts at the back, makes it a formality for Zenit over two legs.
So how do Celtic prepare for the Europa league? We sign a 32 year old ineligible defender?
Utter fucking nonsense & we will reap what we sow in these two games, if anyone is still in any doubt, listen to me….WE ARE PLAYING MIDFIELDERS IN DEFENCE….it is fucking nonsense!

Prediction over the two legs? Celtic 2 Zenit 6
£31m in the bank tho.

Do you get off on spouting negative nonsense . It definitely illustrates two things one you are no supporter of Celtic & also you have a very immature mind .
The basic definition of a supporter is someone who encourages their team to do well. You do the opposition & the sad thing is that their maybe some other idiots who may actually believe you & go to the match & think it is quite reasonable to abuse our players .
Old fatherless people like yourself should not try to impose your lack of parenting skills to the rest of the Celtic family . Most humans know that not only do children , youths , sports people & even animals perforrm better with encouragement, but this thing Monti is smarter than nearly everyone else

Mike,
I take it the absence of criticism from yourself, regarding strengthening the defence, is confirmation you feel happy with the defence?
Or are you unaware playing midfielders in defence is…well…disastrous?

That photograph reminds me of our trip to Dublin, Easter 2016. We were slightly mob-handed. Well,250+ at the “do” on the Saturday night gives you a clue.

Five of the lads were crossing the road to get a bus to The Gravediggers at Glasnevin. Dublin lad of our acquaintance nearly ran them down, then insisted on giving them a lift there!

Tight squeeze,I can tell you-only one of them is less than 6′ and it wasn’t a people carrier he was driving!

So my Dad gave them a rendition of Johnston’ Motor Car on the karaoke as a reminder!!!

Sorry,Ralph, history has shown,we stand alone as fans,as we do as a club.
Zenit ? Is a bonus. We can get a result on Thursday, but will probably get knocked out, after game in Russia. Will be disgrace.
For me,historical back-to-back Trebles,is our No1 ‘goal’ now.

Excitement and fear a rare mixture and it about sums it up Ralph. Of course the support will start out magnificent as ever and hopefully the bit you do watching behind the hands can be done silently and not sweep down to the pitch. Apart from spending £60 m on players afterwords what is the difference between the clubs? Hard to see a way beyond this, we have £30 m in the bank but we couldn’t get established stars to come to Scotland for that, blow it on a couple of big stars on their way down? Getting a Victor and Virgil combined with developing a couple of our own is the best formula but doesn’t everybody want that?

Many fine players started as wingers, then became very good full backs ?
Likewise many a decent midfielder, has been pushed forward to become strikers?
Ajer is 19.Captained a club in Norway’s 1st division,when he was 16.
Brendan seems great potential in him at CB.

I wonder when people in the Celtic support are going to wake up and realise that Peter Lawwell is part of the problem not any sort of solution. He has done nothing to support action against Sevco and old Rangers for cheating and writes a letter every five years when forced to. he has been in on the same club myth from the start. If the shoe had been on the other foot we would be like Belfast Celtic, no longer playing football. They would have destroyed us and insisted we start at the very bottom and the majority of the support would have abandoned an amateur club. Why? Because people inside Ibrox would have insisted on it. They would have been screaming from the roof tops yet what did fat Pete do? Nothing for years.

John so you don’t go to any Celtic v Sevco games nor watch them on TV or on the wireless. Good man yourself .
As far as I can see Sevco don’t need any help from Peter Lawell to implode . Rangers managed to do it all by themselves in 2012.& I have no doubt they don’t need an outsiders help this year or next .
By the way Belfast Celtic Board decided to withdraw from the IFA because the RUC didn’t want to protect their players .
I don’t think any normal person could link if Celtic died like Rangers that they would become another Belfast Celtic

I’m finding it hard to pick my XI for Thursday, if we were picking players based on form then only James and Broony would get a jersey, so I guess I have to pick it based on what they have shown they can do in a Celtic jersey.
De Vries
Lustig Jozo Bitton KT
Forrest Brown Kouassi Sinclair
N’tcham
Dembele
I don’t want fling Armstrong, Ralston or anybody else who is not fit straight back into a game of this importance, and Ajer is too inexperienced so might as well pick our other central midfielder who plays there on occasion. As for Calmac he was great last season and early this season when he was in rotation, starting games here and there, coming off the bench and having a real impact; recently ahead of the Xmas break he started a few games in a row and hasn’t convinced me he can hold down a starting jersey week in week out. He looks a bit tired and therefore lacking confidence so that’s why I wouldn’t have him.
That said they all look like they’re lacking confidence, so I refer you to the first sentence. I hate being negative so apologies for being dour.
So let’s be positive; they haven’t played a competitive game for two months so let’s get intae them from the off and play the way the fans know we can, and the players have proven consitently that they actually can. 2-0 the Hoops!!

Symphony

But there is not a quality CB beside Ajer. So your point is moot. He is being left to develop on his own and taking an absolute hammering in Europe is going to do precious little for his development. Especially if he is left to shoulder the blame himself. You would imagine that someone in a management position might have worked this out and took appropriate action. However someone thought it was best to throw 1 million of the cash at hand/bank on an injury prone 33 year old who couldn’t even play in Europe anyway. Let’s hope the custodians of our club never get their hands on a sweetie shop.

Point isn’t moot. When he has a quality defender beside him,Compper might be that man ? Nobody can say otherwise, until we see him play ?
For me,he’s doing really well at CB.Yes,he’ll make mistakes, but he is still very young, and is competent in our league.
Mark my words,Ajer will be a top class CB for us.
He has height, good in the tackle, can come out with the ball.He needs to learn his positional game. But,that comes with games and an experienced CB beside him.

Just think about it, every Celtic supporter uniting under the common cause of getting truth and justice over the lies and the cheating from the conflicted peepil. Forming a common bond to cleanse the AULD MEN and the blazers at the SFA. There was some good men before, like David Taylor or Andy Roxburgh and there still is some good men at the SFA, like Michael Mulraney. We need the Compliance Officer’s report, which if he reports the truth, then some of the lies and the cover ups will be confirmed, that in itself will open up a new investigation into the LNS enquiry, which should lead to a fresh investigation into title stripping. If it does not reflect the truth, then this is our last chance to unite and DO something about it. Regan is gone, pocketing no doubt a sizable pay of and a secrecy clause, but at least Tony McGlennan the C.O. doesn’t have him looking over his cauld shooder. We only want the truth out in the open, at first.

Pick that team Gerry and Celtic will be in for the biggest ever doing in any Euro game home or away. Jozo, Lustig and Bitton? Are you serious? Good Lord. that is not a back line it is a suicide pact. I think the last time Lustig and Bitton played together at the back was against Astana. remember 4 – 1 down and they missed a couple of sitters. Honestly, that team would boost Morton’s chances in the Scottish Cup. Play defenders at the back. If Hendry was the one they pushed the boat out for and pursued then play him. Jozo’s confidence is buggered as is Lustig’s, so play Ajer and Gamboa/Ralston. Kouassi? Naw. If Armstrong or Rogic are fit enough to play play them. Mcgregor should also play. This team has the speed and strength to run all over Celtic. Need a strong midfield to help the shaky defence.

We are not stupid, we know what the failings are, every day, day in, day out, its been shouted out, it doesn’t alter anything, its the same regurgitation of negativity, it changes nothing.
Life is full of ifs and buts, if Steven Caulker had come to Celtic, when he was asked, if the South African Cotezee had not failed his medical, they both have the same common theme, they are cheap frees or buys. We know that the board are accumulating cash, the accounts prove that, we can all assume why. Is Brendan fully on board with or charged with purchasing players and these players coming in are all for development, that is another common theme, because they are young, they are cheap buys. That is the common theme of the board, they are the Scrooge’s of the club, the mean spirited acquirers of money, reluctant to spend on the one thing that the support should be seeing, 1/2 quality players, that’s all
we want to see, nothing more, nothing less.

It just does not make any sense to me, my understanding is that we must get some kind of result against Zenit to raise our co-efficient to help us qualify for the C.L. next season. Are they hedging there bets, in that if we do not qualify next season, then there might be money in the bank to protect the club from the failure to do so.
Why not then bring in two good quality players to help achieve back to back trebles (something that has NEVER been done before) and to give us a better chance to qualify next season with two bedded in new players, or to achieve a result against Zenit. Who can gaze into the minds of the people in charge at Celtic.

Our displays in Europe have been bad no doubt, but the games against City Rosenborg away and Borussia away, should give us hope.
But a fatal flaw was allowing Eric and izzy to leave, without proper cover, injuries also to key performers in those games Armstrong Rogic Paddy, has weakened us.
But we have players who should come in and do a job.
We have to protect a makeshift centre back pairing.
Ajer is the best in the position at present,Jozo is out of sorts so Hendry it would be for me. Big Kennedy went in against Barca as a rookie and was brilliant why not this lad.
De Vries you just hope gets the ball early and passes well, for our supporters won’t put up with misplaced passes, and that is a huge worry for me. It’s why we need a competent midfielder to come short and take the ball. Bitton for me is the best available.
De Vries
Lustig Hendry Ajer Tierney
Bitton
Forrest Brown McGregor Sinclair
Dembele
Any home win will do for me,I think we can make use of them not being upto speed on proper match game time, and we could actually get a good result.
I would have been more confident if Gordon Boyata Armstrong Paddy Rogic and Griff had been fit. 6 first team starters missing add in Hayes Compper then you can see why our team is struggling with form at the moment.
But I think we will shock everyone and win 3-1
Keep the faith for the full 90 minutes.

I’ve posted a long version which has went awol.
Our team is missing 8 first team players. That’s why we haven’t reached the form of last season. We haven’t had a full team to pick from.
Key injuries not reserve players or squad players but key players.
We have hope, we are Celtic.
Bring them on I say and a 3-1 victory to the bhoys.

Jimmybee,
I admire your optimism….however the facts speak for themselves, the defence is the weak link, with the lethal combination of those not good enough and playing people out of position causing me palpitations.
This will haunt us Jimmy, i’ve raised it on a fucking daily basis but apparently i’m not knowledgeable about the game…cough.
I just want Compper t get fit quick to help us go far in Europe….oh no….wait,

Say you are Ajer and say you start on Thursday or the return. Despite the result, you and good coaches (and John Kennedy) will look at the games and what you did, didn’t or should have done. He will be exposed to situations, double teaming, false nines, one on ones and balls over the top of a quality he will rarely see in our League. He seems to be an intelligent lad and will learn from whatever happens. The rags, and some of our support, will slaughter him ( and others)if he is at fault. Don’t do it. Good footballers learn quickly.

jimmybee

Monti you have raised it since last season m8 and quite rightly too. I know you want only the best for Celtic like the rest of us, it is what it is m8 and the duty of our supporters on thursday is to forget whats right or wrong, and just give their all to the players picked by Brendan. By doing this we have a chance, without it none.

We will all be cheering the team on on Thursday and hoping for a victory. It what Celtic fans do. We probably even start the game believing we can win. That said, when I look at anybody’s suggested team sheet and see DeV, Lustig and Simo I get angry at the board for failing to invest when they had ample opportunity and considerable funds. Ajer MAY make it as a CB but if that is the plan he should be a work in progress being developed alongside experienced pros for the longer term, not thrown in at the deep end to be exposed.

Jimmybee,
I’m glad you can see what i’m on about and where i’m coming from, it actually amazes me that a lot of others aren’t saying the same?
Brendan has deserved every plaudit he has received since he walked through the door…but he has had long enough to sort this defence & hasn’t done it.
Can he see the problem?
Why is he trying to turn a midfielder into a defender( Ajer )? Again it’s fucking nuts man.

Brendan knows a lot more about the game than i do…but i know what i’m talking about.

Brendan needs to get this defence operating!

Monti , every time I think you have a brain you let me down by stating something stupid . Where is your evidence that Ajer is a midfielder?
When he signed from the super Norwegian league as an experienced 16 year old he described himself as a midfielder, centre defender , who had also played up front .
Why not complain about K Tierney been picked at full back , he was previously a winger .
You are truly an example of empty vessels make most noise , in your case write most shoite .
I fear you may be Irish, I hope to God , I am wrong as I would hate to think any fellow Irish man could be as stupid & anti Celtic as you

Ralph,

You have surpassed yourself or shot yourself in the foot. I am struggling to decide which.

“Turn the heating full up in the away dressing room. Put the chairs next the radiators and nail them to the floor.
You can also get a wee silica based powder which heats up when shaken about a bit. Put it in their boots. Their toes won’t know whats going on and their bodies will shut down the supply of blood to them, causing them to remain in their boots when they take them off at half time.”

So, we make them nice and comfy in the boiling cauldron of Celtic Park while our lot do their usual and FREEZE!!

Now as a man of crumbling limbs with a stop start ticker, I have been up there and down here and the one certainty is it never turns out as expected. I believe in miracles but cannot see anyone currently at Celtic Park who might perform one. However, as long as I am out of bed in the morning and there is something resembling breath coming form my mouth and nostrils, I will cheer on the Bhoys even in hopelessness. It is quite sad that a team of our calibre playing against far from great opposition should create such tension and apprehension among its fans. I have long learned to prepare for the worst, hope for the best and end up with the unexpected. Thursday evening will be no different. I pray it will be a night of joy when the stars align and shine at their best.

I may have restricted use written all over me but I will definitely play whatever part I can in cleaning out and sterilising Scottish Football’s governing bodies. The targets have to be club chairmen, CEOs and boards. They legally hold the reins of decision but the driving force must be the fans. Only they can ensure who rules and how.

or “This is not quite what I expected when you asked if I could keep the two snarling bitches apart by taking them for a ride in the car.”

Apologies, you are quite right in what you say – the defence is shocking. That doesn’t give me an excuse to have a pop at someone because I don’t agree with their opinion.

i tend to ser everything through half full green glasses and make excuses on their behalf , when it’s obvious that they will not take the final step and seem satisfied with just getting into Europe and the cash in the bank. It’s a sticking plaster philosophy they just to spend enough to get by – cross the fingers and trust to luck. That philosophy has put us where where we are today – whipping boys of Europevwith a raft of ready made excuses for every 7-0 pumping. Anyway. , have a good night and KTF

Vested interests (SFA, media, Sevco supporters on many a board of other clubs! ) would easily detail a united fans movement.

Celtic fans have the power right now but it involves an emotional sacrifice.

One single season of home matches WITHOUT visiting Celtic fans, one single season (4 games maximum) of no Celtic fans attending semifinals and finals at Hampden.

Reform would be rushed through.

You have the power – go make it happen.

Agree with Brian here I’m in my fifties. Should listen to your elders and respect them. They’ve seen the worst and the best and still hold out hope. 1000 of pounds put into the team out of their own pockets to stand in sludge and risk getting a hot pie or a bottle in the back of the head in the terraces. Risking crowd crushes and humiliation from hun work mates

Hats off to the 60 plus crew with their unfaltering allegiance, they never had live streaming and the ensuing opinion offered to fans today

Monti their memories of the grand old days is priceless personally I caught the cohort who got into the final with Feyenoord as a kid , though remember watching the Lisbon game as a 7 year old. Saw Johnstone Murdoch charmers Connolly and the rest . Still one of the top teams in the world

My point is from the older guys perspective they’ve lived the great times and you haven’t. It gives them the latitude to talk posh occasionally but from my experience the older guys like mike rebus and pensioner bhoy talk good sense most of the of the time. Pish comes out a bit from me and others, i persons O’Malley think they may be prone to fantasy talk to re enact the halcyon days which as we all know is fantasy. Take that for what it is PISH. It’s better than having this nihilistic doomsayer attitude, that it’s all fucked and heading for disaster.

Let’s have a certain left winger converted to an inside left. Then and the sixties become the seventies we call him a midfielder. Then he gets another area to play called a sweeper/central defender by the mid seventies. Surely a left winger can’t be a decent defender? What’s his name? Does anybody know? The Kaiser. Ajer is not Franz Beckenbaur but right now he is the best defender we have. Who plays alongside this young man has a huge say in what happens on Thursday. Jozo or Lustig or Hendry? What a shambles. We have let a decent defender go in Erik who is experienced at the level required. We can get away with playing with 9 or 10 men in domestic games but not at this level. Musonda must be dropped and Callum brought in as Roberts, Rogic and Armstrong not fit. BR playing Musonda shows a lack of respect for the spfl as the youngster is not ready for the full team. Paddy played for the development squad for a couple of months before he played for the full team and so should ‘wee Charlie’. Lustig runs like he has a groin injury and is not up to snuff at all. Why do we have Gamboa when BR will not play him? Ralston is the future RB but not quite ready for Thursday unfortunately. Dembele doesn’t look fit and his timing is all off. Maybe on Thursday miraculously his timing will return.
James Forrest, Scott Brown and KT are the bright sparks at the moment so lets hope some others get it going too.
JM Joe McBride

Mike

Great post Iain, I remember a winger playing at inside right, his name a hallowed name (like the rest) was called Bertie Auld, great coaches can redefine a players position, the name of the position means nothing. It wont happen but if it was me picking the team, it would because of necessity be young Hendry with Scott Bain in goal, they played together at Dundee. Young Ajer will be the best centre-back that we have in the next couple of years, he is still raw but will develop into a great centre-back. These two young men need our full support along with the rest of the team on Thursday. I agree with other posters, its not perfect by any means just now, but the team needs our united and full support our 100% support.
Lets hope that they all play to there best and they give it there all. Celtic a name to be proud of. B.A. (Bertie Auld).

Lol aye ok…….more insanity from Barry Manilow…..
Why don’t we just sit the whole squad down at Lennoxtown & ask Brendan to ask everyone where they want to play?
A number of guys on here obviously haven’t played football to any degree.
Obviously there are examples of players changing their natural position and doing a job for the team.
For example Chris Sutton was a striker but could do a job in defence when required.

I just fail to see what people see in Ajer…..i see a young midfield player being asked to be Guiseppe Bergomi…..it’s nonsense.

Dear Lord, in the battle that goes on through life
I ask but a field that is fair,
A chance that is equal with all in the strife,
A courage to strive and to dare;

And if should win, let it be by the code
With my faith and my honor held high;
And if I should lose, let me stand by the road,
And cheer as the winners go by.

And Lord, may my shouts be ungrudging and clear,
A tribute that comes from the heart,
And let me not cherish a snarl or a sneer
Or play any sniveling part;

Let me say, “There they ride, on whom laurel’s bestowed
Since they played the game better than I.”
Let me stand with a smile by the side of the road,
And cheer as the winners go by.

So grant me to conquer, if conquer I can,
By proving my worth in the fray,
But teach me to lose like a regular man,
And not like a craven, I pray;

Let me take off my hat to the warriors who strode
To victory splendid and high,
Yea, teach me to stand by the side of the road
And cheer as the winners go by.
