Celtic Diary Monday January 22; Cup Draw Goes Awry

Celtic will face Partick Thistle in the last sixteen of the Scottish cup.

There were further accusations of ineptness aimed at the SFA after the draw not only handed Celtic a home tie, but should “rangers ” progress against Fraserburgh, they will have another away tie, their second in as many decades, as they will travel to Ayr.

We live in strange times.

Celtic will also face Partick on Wednesday, in the league, this time at Firhill, which is never an easy night out. The following Tuesday it’s Hearts at Celtic Park, part of the SPFL campaign to make Celtic face their closest rivals during the midweek, to discourage the non Glasgow based support from attending.

There will be two games a week for a while yet, and we have to hope the players are up for it.

As ever, the media are trying to sell them…Scott Sinclair will be relieved he hasn’t been forgotten by the hacks.. well, he won’t be when they see this, from the Transfer Tavern, which sometimes gets the date right.

The Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern are praying that the club invests some money this January because otherwise a relegation battle will commence. While Newcastle are currently safe, one or two injuries could see them slip back into the bottom three. Indeed, Rafa Benitez is most concerned by the lack of attacking options he has available to him.

This is why he should make a swoop for Celtic star Scott Sinclair. Sinclair has resurrected his career since moving north of the border and he has impressed in green and white. The former Swansea City and Aston Villa man was the second top scorer in the Scottish Premiership last season, netting 21 goals for the Bhoys.

That will do his confidence good. Part of the reason for his dip in form is that there has been no speculation about a move back south.

In the meantime, could there be something in this.. ?

Scottish Premiership leaders Glasgow Celtic are said to have an eye on a former Crystal Palace academy star who is now plying his trade in the seventh tier of English football, according to The Independent.

Reise Allassani, now plying his trade for Dulwich Hamlet in the Bostik Premier League, three levels below League 2, was once seen as one of the hottest properties in English football – and reportedly is of interest to the Hoops.

Having dominated the younger age levels while coming through the ranks at Selhurst Park, the powerful forward was called up to represent England at under-16 and under-17 level, where his teammates included the likes of Alex Iwobo, Joe Gomez and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

It appeared as though it was going to be just a matter of time before Allassani broke through at Crystal Palace. He was put on a lucrative professional deal to tie him to the club, but persistent and regular injuries set him back.

The reported Celtic target recovered from that low time to be on the fringes of a deal at Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship after impressing in a trial, but as he was closing in on agreeing a contract he tore his ACL which put him out of the game for a year.

That sent the 22-year-old into non-league with Dulwich Hamlet, where he has 17 goals in just 16 matches this season. He has learned the physicality of football away from the top flight which is something that has helped his game immensely.

Dulwich Hamlet is a football cub, and not a detective character from an episode of Miss Marple.

As well as his scoring record, Celtic are believed to like the balance Allassani has, as well as a devastating turn of pace, not to mention his resilience and eye for the back of the net.

Brendan Rodgers and his Bhoys scouting team have worked hard to spot the man, who was heading towards being another on the ever increasing list of players released by academies never to be seen in the professional game again.

Worked hard to spot him ?

Image result for reise allassani dulwich

There’s only him and the scout there.

Bad news for Tom Rogic, he’s going to be out for a couple of months after suffering a setback with his knee injury. That leaves the door open for Stuart Armstrong to …oh hang on, he’s out as well. Still, Patrick roberts will be back soon…maybe.

Calum MacGregor , who keeps things simple, will fill the number ten role, but he lacks that extra creativity needed to play amongst the front line.

The bigger picture needs to be addressed here…why so many injuries ?

Is it the training pitches ? Is it the training methods ?

Are the ground staff up to it ?

The strains and pulls that seem to be endemic at Lennoxtown need to be investigated, there are too many too often for it just to be coincidence.

Hey, if we need a new striker….

RANGERS will demand a fee of around £10million before they consider doing a deal for striker Alfredo Morelos.

The Colombian was a £1million recruit in the summer as Pedro Caixinha brought him to Ibrox on a three-year deal from HJK Helsinki.

And he has quickly become an integral part of the Light Blues side in recent months as he has netted 12 times in 25 appearances.

Morelos is top of the Premiership scoring charts with ten league goals to his credit and is in front of the likes of Moussa Dembele, Leigh Griffiths and Scott Sinclair in the rankings ahead of the return to top flight action in midweek.

Monti your comment last night about the horror tackle on Agathe; one of the reasons I couldn’t take to Pressley who tried to drag him up after “diving”. Absolutely ruined the man going forward but he put in a very good shift as a right back. What could have been.

Gerry,
I didn’t leave Levein in any doubt that night, he’s actually ok to talk to but i was pissed off with that challenge on Agathe.
Sure it put him out for a wee bit, 6 weeks or so!

Celtic have in the past got some gems in the january window. The team does need more creativity with the abscence of Paddy and Big Tom. Lets hope we get a player who can make a real difference to the first team before it closes.Im sure Brendan will have targeted some players outwith the medias so called targets.

Mike

Absolutely, the media are in “fly yer kite” mode, they have as much a clue as we do and that is the reality. Brendan is on record as saying that he wants to bring in a playmaker, it could be “play Doh” as far as I know, so best let him get on with it. Its good that they no nothing but for us a bit frustrating, gone are the days when there were more leaks coming out of Celtic like rain escaping doon the drain. That is my term for today…crying doon the drain.

Not shown on the joke that is the ‘highlights’ programme but Ajer, trying to shield the ball out for a throw in was robbed and they made an arse of it in the box. Good otherwise but no test in the game for any Celts. Boys in front of me with a “Wenger Out”.poster !

I showed in the last article how injuries to the most creative players simultaneously, rather than volume of injuries, is hampering Celtic’s league form. Roberts has missed more than anyone. What impact does his absence have on performance?

Watched the cameo appearance of Levein’s after match interview, when he said “natural order has been restored” you could tell by his expression that it was bait, a hook to reel in the wee man, unfortunately Lenny took the bait. He should not have commented on the throwaway remark, the right thing to do was to ignore it.
Just imagine the dynamite that would be, getting that remark stuck on the dressing room door when business resumes against the wee huns.
“The Despicable Bastards”. I will love the wee man till the day I die but he has to learn to use these opportunities for his own advantage, he is a smart wee fella to smart to take the bait from the sharks.

Mike

Heard a lotta mince talked about Edouard and his reputed value, but like Kouassi I have a lotta time for him, a good all round team player
still very young, raw but with a good work rate who works hard for the team and a possible big star for the future. Fitba. prices for players outside this land the reputed £7. mill. agreed purchase price is a drop in the ocean, he methinks would be worth every penny.
Sinclair looked refreshed, Forrest’s foot angled pass into the net was typical of a player whose confidence is being boosted on a weekly basis and especially Ntcham who continues to promise such a lot.
Nothing pleases supporters more than to see young men improving getting better and better and reaching there full potential, long may it continue.

I’ve made ONE attempt at posting in a few days…..just now….and it’s gone all ethereal on me…..
So, I’ll change tack and ask a silly question, like this: since we’re (Celtic plc) doing SFA about the SFA and similarly about transfers IN, defenders in, what the fuck does PT Bastard L get paid for; and has his preposterous salary for a fucking bean-counter @bean’ increased?
That bastard will, I hope, become one day, the epitome of all that’s wrong in the previously, working-class owned, arena of ‘football’.
FUCK Lawwell today, and his type, for ever; we’ll get OUR game back and you lying, cheating scum will see gallows.
