Celtic Diary Saturday October 7: I Have Seen The Future-So Have They

Some headlines really annoy me.

Not like when someone turns the telly over when you’re watching someone, more like when you see someone coming out of your house with the telly as you get in from work.

This one, for instance..

CELTIC DEPLOY SCOUTS TO CRUCIAL INTERNATIONAL FIXTURE, EURO GIANTS ALSO IN ATTENDANCE.

Haw, we are Euro giants, ya bassa.

The story, though, from Danny Wright on Football Insider ( which is a terribly rude way to describe a portly lass ) is quite interesting..

Celtic deployed their scouts to cast their rule over Austria’s World Cup qualifying win against Serbia on Friday night, according to a report.

Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung claimed on their website that a host of clubs had sent their recruitment experts to the Group D clash, including European giants Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid.

Celtic’s scouts would have seen Guido Burgstaller, Marko Arnautovic and Louis Schaub score for the home side while Luka Milivojevic and Nemanja Matic netted for the Serbs.

It is not clear who the Scottish Premiership champions were keeping there eye on, but with Brendan Rodgers currently suffering a defensive injury crisis with Mikael Lustig and Jozo Simunovic picking up fresh setbacks, it would be fair to assume he had someone to cast the rule over defenders in the clash.
Sounds about right. Sign defenders from a game which saw the sides share six goals.
If there wasn’t a world Cup coming up, and if Scotlanf didn’t have a sort of fifty fifty chance of qualifying-either they will or they won’t- then I’m quite sure the Celtic players wouldn’t need to wait for the club to pull them out of fixtures.
James Forrest, far and away my own favourite player at Celtic, and undoubtedly the one you can rely on in europe to pull a result out of the bag, came in for some criticism after the game against Slovakia, Slovenia or whoever it was..

Scotland fans took to Twitter to lay into James Forrest for his performance in their 1-0 World Cup qualifier win against Slovakia last night (Thursday).

Gordon Strachan’s side kept their hopes of a play-off spot alive with a last-gasp triumph that arrived courtesy of a late own goal from former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel.

Forrest, 26, had been given the nod to makes his 19th Scotland appearance after beginning the season in fine form for 2016-17 treble winners Celtic, for whom he has scored seven goals in 19 matches.

But the Hoops academy product has not yet replicated that kind of goalscoring form for his country and is yet to open his account for the Tartan Army.

It reads almost exactly like the criticism given to Kenny Dalglish when he was winning european cups with Liverpool, but somehow not winning world cups with Scotland.

Despite the Celtic core of a Scotland side that has hauled itself into a position where its at least an interesting last game, there is little chance of someone not getting singled out and blamed for being unable to win the game single handedly.

God hep Craig Gordon when he next concedes a goal. Especially after our esteemed hacks marked his card for saying this..

“There were a few of us from Celtic in the starting line-up even without Scott Brown and Stuart Armstrong. we are still fairly well represented,”

“It does help us because we obviously know one another’s game and we have brought the same mentality from Celtic into the international camp.

“In saying that, I feel as though the manager has done well to foster a club mentality around the national team and there is a spirit and togetherness about us that has helped over the last few months when we knew we really had to go out and try to get results.

“We missed Scott [Brown] and Stuart [Armstrong] on Thursday night but these are guys who have done their bit. They are influential players and they would be missed by any team but the lads who came in have done really well.

“We still created chances and it was a solid team performance and regardless of how many Celtic players are in there, you know what you are going to get with this group.”

If you want a world cup game to give you a real feeling of tension and excitement, watch Sweden against the Netherlands tonight.

Mikael Lustig is playing, and its been quite a few weeks since his last injury, so he must be due one.

Image result for scared face gif

On a similar note, though, I wouldn’t be too concerned about jozo Simunovic’s injury just yet….think about it, if there was any problem he wouldn’t have been allowed to go to his international team in the first place…

Image result for wink gif

Its also worth noting that Keiran Tierney was replaced in the Scotland game as well, so that a winger could come on…tierney presumably not up to the job of bombing forward ?

Nah, for all the criticism given to Gordon Strachan no one would feel worse than him of any of our players got injured before the Bayern game whilst on Scotland duty.

He would love to be in an ITV or Sky studio should we get a result over there.

And I’d love to see him in an ITV or Sky studio should that happen.

Meanwhile, over in Lalaland…

They’ve started a Crowd Funding to move Celtic fans from the broomloan 😂

Not big enough to hold their own offspring who are starting to come into the light ?

Not quite…

It seems they have accepted they are not going to be able to compete with us after all, and now know their place. They just don;t want us to see them being put into their place.

He might have a point. I clearly remember one Celtic player putting out a marker for fans to aim at..

Image result for leigh griffiths ties scarf

Papa Smurf ? Do they mean Pedro ?

Yes !

Its working…

Meanwhile, evidence has emerged that there is ine man not getting the credit that he deserves regarding the development of Keiran Tierney through the ranks from the Academy to the first team.

You know what this means….the young defender, hotly tipped to win the BBC Young sports Personality of the year as long as we can look for and hijack the nominations, may well have other Loovenian influences..

Yesterday we had this image…

I read with interest the belittling comments of the current England manager regarding Scott Sinclair. Apart from them showing a complete lack of class and unecessarily besmirching a very good footballer, I would warn Southgate that people in glass houses should never throw stones. As a manger Southgate is more than one level below and is uninspiring, robotic and excruciatingly boring. A style redeployed by his team recently. NO real surprise of course England managers only pick players on how much they cost or they play in EPL where all the non English talent make them look good. So Southgate learn some class and be aware of your own failings before you opine on others.

While what you say is true and echoes my own thoughts, I remember MON putting forward weekly Alan Thompsons case to joining the English national team and he was….awful. Southgate’s loss is our gain, but I have no doubt that Sinky would do a great job for Engerland.
They canny help themselves with there English superiority in thinking that ALL Scottish players are shite, but they do there darndest to keep Celtic out of the EPL, why? cos they are shit scared that Celtic would rule the roost in England.

Monti, I meant to reply to this the other day.
Thommo was a fucking great player for us, passing, tackling, movement and then BANG, his strikes. I used to talk, locally, to English fans and say how good Thommo was. It was returned with derision. I thought, fuck you supremacist bastards, (just like huns), I hope your manager is as thick as you. Thommo was also the guy who jumped in when the DOB tried to attack Neil Lennon at Tyncastle. Something went awry between Neil and Alan but my memories are all positive. WhyAyeMhan.

Great read again Ralphy,

What do you want for Christmas Mike? oh well top of my wish list Santa is…. A quality centre half, who is robust and could be less prone to injury, not bothered if he can run forward and is a particularly good passer out, just one who is good in the air, can read the game and has a physicality and a complete lack of fear that would deter any forward from thinking that they could get the better of him. A really strong tackler in the Marc Reiper mould, that would do nicely thank you Santa, oh and a rude girly calendar, but that is sterio-typingg woman Mike, yes I ken but it is My Christmas list after all isn’t it?

Mike,
Me as well, but i’d prefer an Alan Stubbs to a Marc Rieper, it is crucial to be comfortable in possession and distribution these days.

Yes, But what about the ………calendar?

How good in possession do you need to be to pass a ball 20/30 yards, Boyata can do the passing and the moving the team forward, I would like to see a big physical centre-back to complement the ball playing one someone like big Ward the Irish centre- back, great in the air and with the presence to intimidate forwards, no looking for any great ball players, a stopper in your tracker.

Monti I support Celtic Football club and hate the jackets at the SFA. Over the years they have ignored Celtic managers and players, only turning to them in desperation. Yes Jock and Chesney have been there, but it is a stream of blue pish which has managed and represented this Biggoted wee country. I see it from a different viewpoint to you, following the Republic.

You’re not wrong there. We’ve been focused on Armstrong and McGregor not getting picked but the lower levels are a lot worse eg. Ralston – good enough to play against the worlds most expensive player but can’t get a game for Scotland unders, the only game he has played was a win against Holland and since been dropped.

McCarthy and McGeady were right in choosing ROI, Scotland only seemed interested after ROI approached them.

Monti

Doc,
McCarthy & McGeady were right in the sense they had the choice, based on their parents and Grandparents country of origin.
I find this rule to be nonsense and for me it should only go as far as the players country of birth ( unless born whilst on holiday ).
I respect the choice Mcgeady & McCarthur made, but i would have loved to have seen them play for Scotland.

I ken its not on everybody’s wish list, but I hope Scotland win in Slovenia on Monday, just for WGS, the Celtic players and the Celtic supporters in the team including Moldini.
We forget how much the players enjoy playing for their country, it also adds to their fitba. experience.
Also for Cal-Mac to get his first game, mibbee even playing with McGinn, he McGinn could be a Celtic player in January and I for one would welcome that, to take the strain of Broony as he puts on his slippers towards retirement, another building block towards the future. There is no doubt but that the U21’s missed young Ralston but you have to be careful with injuries with young players, no point in them getting crocked before their careers kick of.
Good luck to Scotland and the Republic, I hope they both get through to the World cup, it will save the slobbering English huns spitting out their pish.

Difficult one with the national squad situation. It’s great experience for our players and therefore benefits us. But the unprecedented numbers and the shameful attitude of the SFA to Celtic men in the past – best summed up by Tommy Burns in Twists and Turns – rankles. The best bit is knowing how much the rise in Scottish nationalism plus a team half full of Celts is doing their box in. It’s a good time to be alive.

Aiden McKellar

James Forrest is a passenger for both Celtic and Scotland. If Roberts had been playing from the beginning we would have beaten Hibs comfortably.
I’ve watched Forrest closely in the warm up and he simply goes through the motions and demonstrates that he can’t strike a ball properly. I know you’re going to bring up the goal against Rosenberg but he actually mis-controlled the ball before shooting. The fullback should have been shot for allowing the strike.
He has pace but rarely uses it and continually receives the ball from Lustig and gives it straight back to him. Never takes on responsibility. His highlighted defensive qualities are a joke. Never seen him win a tackle. Pretends he’s closing down space when in fact he’s doing nothing. Roberts is a class act and he must be bemused to have to sit and watch Forrest’s efforts. As far as caps are concerned, when I think of the quality Celtic players who were never capped, his collection are laughable.
Hopefully, over the season I’ll be spared watching an out and out phoney spoiling my enjoyment of watching the hoops.

Best advice i could give you is to take your time before ‘ moving in ‘with someone, slow it down.

Don’t forget to make sure she can ( carry out ) cook & bake, iron and any other mundane chores you can think of, without moaning about having to do them.

Charlie, that is absolutely beautiful……just as the Mhan Andrew Kerins must truly have been. I wiped a tear as I read that.
It’s fitting that we have his statue on the fringe of Paradise at the end of the Celtic Way.
Aye, ‘more than a club’ indeed, combining the very best of the Catholic Church with genuine Socialism. Hail! Hail!
My old uncle (RIP) studied at the Seminary in Dumfries prior to his ordination into the priesthood of the Catholic Church. I wonder if it was in the same buildings where Brother Walfrid breathed his last. One of my older brothers wanted to be a Marist Brother; I think Brother Walfrid was behind that unfulfilled dream. My Mum’s family were from The Calton, parishioners at Saint Alphonsus, just up the road from Saint Mary’s where the Celtic was born.
It seems the ‘John Glass’ mentioned was a very different one from the one who arrived on Earth sometime later and known as ‘Jack’, eh?
Thanks for that posting, Charlie, special.

Thanks to Brendan and his coaching, Scotland has benefited massively by the fitness, skill, confidence and the winning mentality fused into the Celtic players by Brendan’s coaching.
After a disasterou’s start by WGS including his loyalty to players who could not play a tin whistle Scotland has improved massively by the inclusion of Celtic’s C.L. players.
The order of the Scottish Whistle has a nice ring to it, the freedom of Govan should be granted to Brendan.
We luv you Brendan oh yes we do,
