Celtic Diary Sunday September 10: It’s All Happening now

Well, all of a sudden the media are aware that there may have been a couple of dodgy dealings at the offices of the SFA over the last twenty years or so.

It’s in all the papers.

Its being misrepresented in nearly all of them, but its in the papers nonetheless.

Only Graham Spiers in the Times does the story any justice..

spiers article

It’s taken a while, but finally there’s a piece out in the mainstream that is accurate and honest.

The important parts may well get lost as others in the SMSM attempt to make it look as though they are knowledgeable in these matters.

Again, however, there is still a need to clarify a few things, at least as far as I can see them.

That clarification can be found in the correspondence released between Peter Lawwell and Stewart Regan..

SFA_Correspondence

Please, take the time to read it.

In this series of letters are all the bits the media are missing.

It will help you to understand what is really going on.

This is not about the SFA declining to conduct a review. They were asked to participate in one, and declined. It could well happen without them. It may even have been asked of them in the full knowledge that they would decline. Which, of course, leaves them open to questions such as “why ? ”

The point is, though, they have declined, and they’ve agreed to have all correspondence on the matter made public, a transparent move that is entirely unique in this particular administrations period of office.

It wasn’t just Celtic who asked them to participate. Neil Doncaster also wrote to them, on behalf of the 42 clubs in the league.

This means that the call for SFA particpation in a review is backed by the majority of Scottish football clubs, whether they come out publcicly and say it or not. Doncaster acts on their behalf, just as it could be said he did when the LNS enquiry made its conclusions about sporting integrity and so on.

As with all “inquiries “, LNS was set up to justify an action already taken. When LNS was denied access to certain information, he could only rule on what he had in front of him. If, as suspected, the whole thing was “rigged “, that information had been strictly censored by those who had already decided what the inquiry was to conclude.

At that time, both the SFA and the SPFL, for different reasons, wanted to keep the status quo, including what they called Rangers, in Scottish football.

The SPFL ( the clubs ) now see things differently, and want to change things. That’s why Doncaster is leading the charge. Not from any personal “St Paul on the way to Damascus “moment, but because he is doing now what he did then. Representing the clubs.

Regan and his pals at the SFA are horrified by this.

Any inquiry given the relevant evidence will produce the required conclusion.

That evidence , which is already out there, shows a degree of moral flexibility that is bordering on fraud.

The media will continue their narrative which is trying to make it a Celtic Rangers issue. The SFA , as they have all along, are fully in favour of splitting a large proportion of Scottish football fans in two, as if they are arguing with each other they are not arguing with them. The rest will, they hope, see it as a Celtic Rangers problem, yawn, and go back to moaning about how the big two always get their way, which means that the only people who can force change don’t even know what they are trying to change.

Indeed, some of those still think that Celtic aren’t fighting this.

There is no mistaking Lawwells  passion on this, which was evident in his reply when I asked him where we were with Resolution 12. Maybe he could show it a little more in public, but he’s against grandstanding.

He hadn’t given up on Res 12, and others may have been surprised by that.

I was surprised by the passion. He knew where the answers lay, the Res 12 guys had told him, but he also knew how to get them out into the open, which he has done.

Where we are today is the result of a lot of groundwork he put in over the last few years.

Sure, there were hiccoughs and doubts, but I have to take my hat off to him, ( or hats, given my usual degree of flipping from one mood to another )

We may have disagreed over the level of communication with the support, but there can be no doubt that we are not all fully in the picture now,

Thats why I’d again ask you to read the letters in the link above. The devil is in the detail there, and not in the SMSM.

We have to stop talking about title stripping. The issue is about rule breaking.

We have to stop talking about tax fiddles. The issue is improperly registered players.

Its about the SFA and their treatment of Rangers, a member club,  and how much this contributed to their fall into liquidation

At least, that’ll do to start with. The police can deal with anything that they find interesting afterwards.

The aim of any inquiry is to find out how much wrongdoing has occurred, find out who did it and why, and deal with them.

Then, an entirely new body should be formed, on the principles of establishing a level playing field in the game.

Led by the clubs, for the clubs, and most importantly, for the fans of those clubs.

There are so many people in the media, either with or without an agenda that is becoming more disheartening than the days when I wondered whether any of them would have the balls to run with it.

Now that its out there, and perhaps those, like Spiers, alright, not like Spiers, just Spiers, were right all along to wait, as Lawwell and Doncaster have waited, until there is absolutely no room to manoeuvre their way out of it for the guilty.

Whats a little disheartening though, is that they still toe the company line.

They are going to find that the line in this particular footrace may well snap up and strangle them.

Shall we lighten up for a moment now.

Why not ?

How about a transfer rumour ? Well, how about we repeat from we made up earlier…

Left sided defender Reto Zeigler is out of contract and is available for free. At that price, we may be tempted to shore up the back line cover with the experienced Swiss fellow.

Brogan Rogan Trevino on twitter has discovered more evidence that Celtic are indeed the establishment club when he unearthed proof that British secret agent James Bond was actually sent out on work experience with the club

and a Florida sheriff has offered sound advice to citizens of the state wondering hiw best to prtoect themselves from the hurricane they face this weekend…

Ralph spot on to focus on rule breaking and the improper registration of players, that, or rather those are the smoking guns, not stripping titles and tax fiddles. Those, like Lawwell, who played the waiting game will endure there is no
escaping the truth.

On another point agree with Alky, Brown was out of order, he is a wonderful asset but he gives our opponents opportunities to focus on things other than the fabulous football experience Brendan and the squad put on the pitch, note squad not team!

Mantra: “Did old Rangers use players who were improperly registered, yes or no? If so, what are the penalties for using improperly registered players, based on precedent?”
Once improper registration has been established, the punishment will take care of itself (because there have been many other examples by other clubs)

From the unfake America media:
“President Trump had a tumultuous month of July, but squeezed in at least eight rounds of golf. Trump has visited his own properties to play golf or relax on 57 of the 103 days he’s been president, a rate of once every 3.4 days. He’s played golf once every 5.7 days of his presidency, though his staff never admits he’s playing golf or reveals whom he plays with.”

With bt muting our supporters is it time for the board to get involved and ban the ira songs. What an embarassing situation for the club. Jumped up wee ra men on bottles of buckie who run like fuck furst sign of trouble and probably never been to belfast.
I mean the snipers promise ffs welcome back paddy wait to you hear this song its a belter.
Fuckin joke. What must his family and that of Scott Sinclair etc think.
We have a great songbook cracking songs, but go on home, snipers promise really?
Time to change the songbook i think.
This is coming from someone who loves a good rebel song, but i believe its time to put them away and enjoy them in our own surroundings without inflicting them on supporters players etc who simply just want to support or play for Celtic.

Anyway change of subject nice bit by hibs fan.
Scottish Football’s Shame

Taking a break from blogging specifically about Hibs, I wanted to put out my thoughts on the decision by the SFA to refuse to participate in an independent enquiry at the request of the SPFL, into the handling of the Rangers affair.

I have held the view for a long time that Rangers’ behaviour was outright cheating. They deliberately and systematically concealed information (the infamous EBT side letters) from the governing bodies and HMRC. This was not an accidental piece of administrative carelessness, it was deliberate, institutional deception.

Rangers have been proven to have misled the authorities by claiming a known tax debt was in dispute (it wasn’t) in order to gain a licence to play, and it’s clear that the registration of players in the EBT years was not complete – the requirement was to declare all payment terms. Rangers, by concealing the side letters, did not comply with that requirement.

As time has passed, more and more evidence of nefariousness at Ibrox has emerged. Rangers were not simply chancing their arm during this time, they were blatantly flying in the face of the rules as they stood at that time.

There are, in my view, justifiable calls for title stripping. However, stepping back from what could be perceived to be a blood-lust driven call for revenge, the refusal to investigate what actually happened is a massive slap in the face to every single supporter of Scottish football that ploughed their hard-earned cash into watching a competition that was fundamentally skewed in one side’s favour through rule-breaking.

It has not been a level playing field at the best of times for every team outside of the Old Firm. Their financial dominance has meant that every side for the last twenty-thirty years has simply had to hope that they could be the ‘best of the rest’ as some barometer of success.

That the massive financial advantage wasn’t enough for Rangers will give you an indication of why Scottish football fans are so irate at the decision not to open an enquiry into what happened.

The assumption, rightly or wrongly, is that there are people in the corridors of power in the SFA who have blood on their hands. If they have nothing to hide, why not open the doors to an independent enquiry? If anything, you’d expect the SFA to welcome the opportunity to show the world that “Hey, we got shafted as much as you guys – how were we to know?”.

Instead, we have officials who are happy to plug their fingers in their ears, shut their eyes, and hope that it all blows over. It leaves a monumentally bitter taste in the mouth and drains any confidence that lessons have been learned and that there will never be a repeat of the incident.

It is to the great detriment of Scottish football that an enquiry has been denied. I hope that there is enough will and resource to force the issue, otherwise it will forever be a black mark on the beautiful game in this country.

To me Lawwell has made a clever move by involving the 42 clubs at the SPFL and Doncaster sharing this agenda to have a judicial review.
There would have to be a majority of clubs who wanted this judicial review or else this motion would not have been carried, he has also created a rift between Doncaster and Regan, who as Video Celts suggest, that the pantomime horse has separated, divide and conquer.
This is a starting point, there has to be response from Regan to the boards latest letter. More pressure has to be applied to Regan but he of course will not comply especially as he has been heavily conflicted. But Celtic as the pre-eminent club in Scotia carry a lorra lorra power, will they use it or will others take up the mantle. The Rangers Tax Case has an awful lot of evidence, the smoking gun, lets hope that they use it, to get rid of the cheats, its gonna get very interesting.

Songs? When 50,000 people sing songs every week for several years mocking a million people dying of being deliberately starved to death (my great-great grandparents were two of them) and another 1.5 million leaving the country of their birth (my great-grandfather was one of them)then I guess it is alright for all Scottish football fans to sing whatever they want? Even on national television? Even our worst Rebel songs are mild by comparison. We should sing whatever we want. Myself, I don’t sing the rebel songs at football matches because I like to sing about our own football history. Some Celtic fans aren’t Irish, Catholic or ancestors of An Gorta Mor but they know and share our Celtic football history… To each his own. Jimmybee, I’m more in your camp but Monti also makes a good point. Maybe we would stop the Rebel songs if the authorities would stop the Famine Song?
I can “go home now, the famine’s over”? I am home. Scotland is my home but Ireland is my history and family history and I’m proud of it.I’ve never lived in Ireland and it was never my home. It was my ancestors’ home, which they were cruelly driven out of.
