Celtic Diary Monday August 14: There’s Been A Gesture

Horrified football fans closed ranks yesterday as a manager violently and without remorse cupped his ears at opposing fans.

Women fainted, children wept and grown men took to the internet in disgust, with supporters and shareholders releasing a statement that made it perfectly clear that this sort of behaviour was unacceptable.

( By the way, the leader picture and title owe a debt of gratitude to Eamon O’Lenin on twitter-thanks. )

The statement, meticulously put together by an educated legal mind read;

Club 1872 would like to commend the restraint of the Rangers support following a clear attempt by Hibernian manager, Neil Lennon, to incite trouble at yesterday’s game at Ibrox.

Rangers and Club 1872 are always keen to remind our supporters of their duty to act as ambassadors for our club but that duty is not one that applies only to Rangers supporters.

Mr Lennon has previous for abusing and goading both Rangers staff and supporters. He seems completely unable to control himself at Ibrox. We can only speculate as to why. His actions in the dugout yesterday – where he made various inflammatory gestures to the supporters sitting directly behind the Hibernian dugout – were not becoming of any football manager, never mind one who likes to play the victim when things do not go his way. It is inexplicable that the fourth official chose to take no action against him at the time but, against the backdrop of possibly the worst refereeing performance ever seen at Ibrox, perhaps we should not be surprised.

Mr Lennon has been extensively quoted in the media as saying that he “didn’t make a gesture”. If that quote is accurate then he is not only irresponsible but a liar.

Had a Rangers supporter reacted to Mr Lennon’s actions yesterday then we would no doubt have been treated to further dramatic headlines about the persecution he has to suffer. Instead we have seen several media commentators make jokes about Lennon’s conduct. It is only because of the good sense of our supporters that they are in a position to do so.

Police Scotland categorised this match as high risk due to the behaviour of Hibernian supporters at the Scottish Cup Final in 2016 when Rangers players were attacked on the pitch. Neil Lennon knew that and he knew he had a responsibility to act in an appropriate manner. He shirked that responsibility and reverted to type.

We hope that Police Scotland will speak directly to Mr Lennon over the coming days and at the very least give him a warning over his future conduct at Ibrox. We also expect the SPFL to take action against Mr Lennon over his failed attempt to incite trouble.

Issued by Supporters Voice Limited, a Club 1872 company.

It’s never a good idea to write something, or indeed do anything, when the beer from the previous day is still in your system.

Whoever put this together was no doubt swigging from a bottle of fine tonic wine as he furiously beat the keyboard.

This was added to the petition about anti Rangers refereeing that hit the web almost as soon as the final whistle was heard at Ibrox as Hibernian dealt a crushing blow to the new clubs charge to fifty five titles by making it perfectly clear they would still need fifty five to get there come May.

With Aberdeen and Celtic still to play this term, their support have received an earlier than usual slap to their pre season gurgling , and it hurts.

Of course, all of this bleating and whining deflects from the two main issues that should be paramount in the thoughts of those who follow the Ibrox club.

Firstly, their manager and players aren’t very good at managing or playing, and secondly, they are skint, having depended on European income that will not be there to keep the books balanced, a tactic that let them down so badly before that you have to question the thinking behind it, if indeed any of them actually stopped to think about it.

Why is all of this worth mentioning ?

Because the very cancer that should have been cut from Scottish football is back, and its threatening to spread throughout the game.

Only the authorities and the clubs can halt  the voracious infection that threatens the game, and nurse it back to health.

The decent Ibrox fan, and there are plenty of them, must be cringing every time Club 1872 switch their laptop on, and perhaps its the fact that they are losing whatever influence they had that forces them to release such desperate claims as those above, but if the result of what is little more than a rabble rousing and spiteful whine is a charge brought to Neil Lennon then they will have been given carte blanche to intimidate evry other club and its employees who visit Ibrox on professional duty this year.

And surely that cannot be allowed to happen ?

Hibs boss Neil Lennon probed by cops over ex-Celtic gaffer’s touchline antics during match against Rangers

Image result for oh for fucks sake gif

But, in fairness,  it is the job of the police to investigate all complaints, no matter how ridiculous.

Maybe they will simply say there is no case to answer.

They need to, otherwise we’ll have more of the same throughout the season.

Oddly enough, no one is investigating why there was another pitch invasion at Ibrox, no one is asking where the stewards and police were then.

If these invasions had taken place during a UEFA match, then the place would be closed down.

No one is looking at some of the threats on social media to Neil Lennon, who may be used to it all by now, but it must be taken seriously, given the previous bombs, bullets, beating and bullshit he’s had to put up with…

Or this, aimed at former favourite referee John Beaton…

Thats the referee shafting the club, not the endless stream of directors who have been doing it for years, oddly enough by feeding the paranoia and siege mentality that is now threatening to become a major social issue.

It may be too much to expect the SPFL to get involved, even though it is there fervent desire to move on and forget all the problems that have eminated from Ibrox, which now appear to be playing out on permanent repeat, and there’s no chance of the SFA doing anything.

The media ?

Image result for laughter gif

Or maybe not…

Keith Jackson of the Record tells a story that hasn’t come from Level 5, probably the first in a long time…

“There have been some other highly curious goings on concerning the media at Murray Park, where Rangers have started training their own cameras on the press men who are despatched there to ask questions of manager Pedro Caixinha on behalf of their respective readerships.

“There is a sinister sub text to all of this. Ask anything too difficult and the club reserves the right to put it up online in order that the support can act as judge and jury.

“Again, this sort of intimidatory tactic will be right up Jong-un’s street but it does not reflect well at all on those who are making decisions on Rangers behalf.

“It resulted in a mass walk out of football writers from Caixinha’s pre-match briefing ahead of Saturday’s visit from Hibs and it will most likely happen all over again when the media are ‘welcomed’ back to preview this weekend’s lip smacker of a match up with Hearts.”

Maybe some people are wakening up to the fact that they are professional journalists after all.

It’s been a long time coming, but it should be welcomed nonetheless.

You see, if the new club want to be allowed to play with the grown ups, then they have to be told in no uncertain terms to start acting like grown ups.

And as for the police, maybe its about time they stopped wasting taxpayers money , and devoting a significant chunk of their time and budget to investigating footballing non events.

Or at the very least, had an objective look to find the common denominator….

Meanwhile, back at the ranch there’s a big game this week.

All of the guff around the Ibrox pantomime means that manager Brendan Rodgers can get on with getting his players ready for the visit of Astana on Wednesday in what is another season defining match for the club.

There is a chance that Patrick Roberts will sign in time to strengthen the squad, but Manchester city are still playing hardball over the details of the full cost of the player, despite having no interest in retaining him.

It’s a business, after all.

Celtic can register one player as a wild card ahead of the tie, by 11pm tonight, though its unlikely that this will be used if its anyone else but Roberts, who is familiar with the way the team play and would be a useful addition to the squad, if only from the bench.

Mind you, Leigh Griffiths is confident ahead of the game…

Naw am no.

You see, humour, once the most recognisable trait in the west of Scotland hasn’t gone away completely. It just doesn’t sell enough papers, or some , at least, don’t think it does.

Football, after all, is supposed to be entertainment, a vessel in which to pour all of our emotions and frustrations , that would favour us with a flavour of delicious ecstasy when drank from, as long as all the right ingredients were there.

( what was that about drinking before you write something ? -Ed )

This week is going to be a bit of a roller coaster.

We’ve got out tickets, we’d better get strapped in.

Yesterday we showed you the vicious ear cupping assault…

There is a canker amongst this support and club, it is almost at the level of the White supremasicists in the U.S. It is extremely dangerous and to date has been abetted by our glorious media.
The bully boys club are banned from Ibrokes and their mediocre so called journalists still do not get it. KJ has suddenly seen the light and is shocked, they have been controlling the media for years.
On Saturday 50,000 sang up to their knees in fenian blood, this is allowed to go as banter.
If nothing is done to control this bile and hatred someone will be seriously hurt, probably innocent bystanders.
Pedro the magnificent and his team are mince, using every bluster to disguise their ineptitude, the club does the same, it is everybody else’s fault, not there’s and the knuckledraggers continue to wallow in this self pity.
The concern is that the majority of the fans of the so-called greatest club in the world are permanently delusional, they believe that guff, you do not have to look far to view their hatred.
It will only get worse as Celtic continue to stride away.
Which brings me onto Astana, I am confident that the team will do the job and qualify for the group stages. The time difference will tell on them as they will be playing at 01:00 which will mean tired brains, a psychological advantage.

Cartvale,

L5 are certainly earning whatever it is they are getting paid from the lying king. Putting things into perspective, half a dozen numbnuts who aren’t even in a football ground are (rightly) vilified for singing a moronic brainless chant about a chap murdered in the most horrific and pointless way. This story goes on for over a week and even the victim’s suffering family brought into it.

50,000 orcs up to their knees in RC blood and telling fholk of a certain ethnic extraction to ‘go home’ sung extremely vociferously week-in week-out scarcely merits a mention. We even had the sight of Zig and Zag on Sportscene lambasting Neil Lennon for his behaviour whilst dismissing the rabid vitriol thrown at him for 90+ minutes as ‘football banter’.

Cue all the stories over the last couple days focussing purely on the behaviour of Lenny.

Aside from all that, well played Lenny and his Hibees for GIRUT.

If Neil is charged by the SFA we should organise a mass demo outside Hampden Park. These sensitive souls are pathetic. The man is bombarded with sectarian and personal abuse throughout the game and they get all outraged that he makes a gesture. This 1872 mob are a bunch of clowns. Always seething, always full of hate and bile. If someone blesses themselves they use that as an excuse to jump up and down in a sectarian lather. Pathetic peepul!

Oor Brendan likes a wee gamble, ie a centre half short, does he stick with Bitton or twist with a new one before tonights deadline.
Down to the bare bones with regards to the striking department, does he stick and gamble with Griff. or try to bring in another one.
Heres is my thoughts, he will stick with Bitton, why? because he is a long standing player who knows the team, to bring in another into the team would be to much of a gamble. He will go with a 75% fit Griff. to get one major part of the game and then rest him till the away tie.
He will bust a gut to bring in Paddy tonight, he is a known quality who knows the players and Brendans methods.
Astana Hosanna are not good at playing away ties as has been shown in the Europa league, their results away from home is poor, when playing on Wednesday, Lustig points out that they will be playing at 2.00 am their time, so get a good result on Wednesday night and try not to concede a goal. Job done.

Mike spot on he must stick with Bitton for the reasons you say. Even a good centre half, coming in, might make one error and one who doesn’t know the play or the players might weaken the defence.
For me the problem is up front, we need Leigh to be playing, I think if we take two goals away and above all don’t concede any it will be fine. Last year against these guys wasn’t a walk in the park but overall we have “progressed” , sorry that word is wired into me at present, I expect us to go through.

Well said Alex Smith the Fitba. Managers thingy, the thingy is that every manager in the World celebrates a goal scored by your team, it helps make the passion of the game, take it away and the games diminished. If Lenny cannot celebrate a goal by his team at Ipox then the games a bogey. You get the feeling that the inbreds are scared, scared that there white supremacy is under threat, little do they know that it died, it died when their club died and no amount of clinging to the past will bring it back.

D J you are correct the decent normal people walk and shop in the streets, they ignore the hatred at Ibrokes, the vast majority of the so called educated nes are as bad as the mob. The club attracts the lowest elements from every segment of society.
In the late eighties and early nineties I attended Ibrokes due to work PR going to the Executive Club. Prior to this I was unaware of the pure hatred for anything, firstly Catholic, then Irish.
These were the days of Souness and his all stars, yet teams like Morherwell, Hearts etc, were Feninan Bxxxxxstds.
The majority were there to celebrate everything belonging to the OO, including members of the Executive Club.
I have noted over the last twenty five years, the comments, things are improving. Having worked in non-Dom schools in darkest Scotia I do not see it.

Sevco are doomed to, at best, mediocrity, and, possibly, oblivion. I say this with regret because Celtic need honest competition in the SPL to push them to greater heights. BR also needs that competition to stay interested, long term, in the Scottish game.
Why do I conclude that Sevco’s future is bleak? The post match interview by Pedro was the final straw, and what a sad event it was.
When a club appoints a new manager they are looking to benefit from the fresh ideas and a fresh approach that he brings. What did we hear from Pedro in the interview? The old destructive themes of “we are the people” and “we know about the anti-Sevco bias from refs”………both are tired themes born of the need to control events off the park. Control the media and the football authorities and you influence what happens on the park. Why not simply develop a better team? Poor Pedro, his job matters more than his integrity! He is doomed for the scrap heap no matter what happens. His card was marked after the European exit and it is just a matter of time and finances that will determine when he is gone.
I feel sorry for the man. He is out of his depth both in a footballing sense and in dealing with the worst aspects of a flawed society.
There you have it…..there will be no innovation from Pedro that will influence performance on the park. Other forces will be used to try to gain positive results on the park. We are seeing it now.

‘If Rangers are to improve on last season then they must get a lot more street-wise than this.

They fell for everything Hibernian tried on Saturday, by fairs means or foul, and paid a heavy price. You need to be fly to well in Scottish football

Now before we go on, Ryan Jack should never have been sent off by referee John Beaton. It was a yellow at most. Hibs’ Dylan McGouch should have walked for two bookings, while Anthony Stokes was hugely fortunate to stay on the pitch.’

This is the opening of Herald Sports ‘journalist’ Neil Cameron on their game under the heading
‘Nothing went right for Rangers against Hibs’
It does get worse, much worse, including referring to Hibs management and staff as ‘that lot’ but I’ll spare you.

Our idol Neil with flame red hair,
He fills the Huns with dread, despair,
This warrior, this fighter he gave us his all,
Proud to wear the Hoops, felt ten feet tall.

At ibrox Neil faces the worst of abuse,
By the inbred scum who sit in the big hoose,
That Neil can take it they just can’t stand,
Scotland’s shame, the blight of the land.

There’s an inner thing in every man,
A great man wrote, our Bobby Sands,
The Hun doesn’t know this thing that makes us strong,
Our belief in ourselves and to know right from wrong.

Keep the faith Neil the Huns are hurting,

When are the powers that be going to twig that Neil Lennon is not the problem, he is only one man. There are thousands of others in the Stadium all hell bent on throwing a torrent of abuse from their seats throughout the stands. USING both oral and gesture,in the hope of getting a reaction which upsets or sults their own peculiar agenda which needs to be activated by Neil. All it takes is one gesture out of thousands which they find offensive. Thus giving them CARTE BLANCHE to persecute him and then expect HIM to be punished for it.

No what l actually said was Deila had the right ideas by implementing changes to diet and fitness then changing us to a high press and reverting to a lone striker.
As Brendan Rodgers has continued with to this day (after failing to revert back to 2 up early doors in the season).
The fact he Deila failed to convince all the players of this was his downfall in the end. (Note the clique involving Mulgrew and Commons no longer exists).
Interesting that Brendan has continued with the same model and it’s flown right over your head.
Deila had his limitations but in finality he secured 2 of the current 6 in a row and put another Cup in the Cabinet so goes with my blessing.
You seem to be hung up over Deila and Ambrose.
