Celtic Diary Sunday July 9: Stripping Titles Is Not The Complete Answer

Not unless you award them to the runners up.

If a case is made to remove the titles from Rangers, who used their own interpretation of tax rules to pay players who otherwise would have played elsewhere, then the idea of simply making the competition void falls flat.

It leaves the defence argument an option to argue to void all the competitions that featured games that included improperly registered players.

Which then leaves the clubs open to civil cases as fans simply ask for their money back.

Always consider all the consequences of all of your actions.

Put simply, either the SFA/SPFL or UEFA must strip the Ibrox club of all trophies won, and award them to the runners up. This leaves no doubt as to who the wrongdoer is, and doesn’t affect those who played-and paid-by the rules.

Its not something to celebrate, by the way, but it is the only feasible way to begin to move forward and clean up the game.

Failure to act isn’t an option, as there are stories emerging that European teams, notably Porto, are looking for compensation from when they faced Rangers in the Champions League, and missed out on further prize money.

Porto have recently been punished for their own financial mistakes, and will be anxious that other teams are not seen to get away with misdemeanours.

Whilst it is important to consider all the possible outcomes of any action, its even more important to do this quickly. Should the Scottish authorities be seen to dither, then the european and possibly even world governing bodies may take matters into their own hands.

That could have serious implications for us all.

What is beyond doubt though, is the need for swift and decisive action.

The correct action.

You wouldn’t be thinking that though if you pay any attention to the now thoroughly discredited national media.

They’ve had years to investigate and demand action on this long before the court decision last week. Even now, the BBC are reporting on the ludicrous “Strip our titles and we’ll get you done for child abuse ” statement from Club 1872, yet ignoring statements from Aberdeen and dundee united fans, who are keen on title stripping.

The Celtic Trust have also delivered a strong and sensible statement..

Celtic Trust statement re Supreme Court ruling

Published on Saturday 8th July, 2017 by Celtic Trust

We note the recent decision of the Supreme Court which confirmed the long-held belief that over many years Rangers Football Club operated with an unfair and illegal advantage over other Clubs and in so doing gained many honours.

We consider the statement from the SFA, that it intends to take no action, to be unacceptable and unsustainable. We join with our own club, Celtic, and supporters of other Clubs who have already commented on this, in calling on the Football Authorities in Scotland to convene a full independent and transparent inquiry into this matter and to do so as a matter of urgency.

We at the Celtic Trust would also urge other clubs and their fans, who have not already done so, to indicate their support for a new enquiry in light of the recent court ruling.

There needs to be action.

The first step should be to open an independent and transparent investigation into the issue. The Lord Nimmo Smith enquiry is now rendered worthless, as it opined on the basis -or assumption-that EBTs were legal.

Put simply, they weren’t loans, they were wages. They weren’t bonuses, they were salary.

We’d all take loans in our pay packets at the end of the week if we could, if it meant not paying tax, but we arenlt allowed to do that, and neither are employers.

They knowingly cheated, so they should lose their titles.

A sports lawyer adds…

Note it should be contested, and not voided.

I don’t want the titles, but I don’t want all of the clubs who won titles or trophies to lose theirs because someone else cheated, and didn’t even cheat well enough to win.

BBC Scotland, as part of their “lets hope it all goes away ” policy, enacted since Wednesday last, had none other than Gordon Smith, the Sunday Posts Man In The know to deliver a verdict on the subject, a move which surprised one intelligent and attractive tweeter..

Replying to

Putting Gordon Smith on is like getting me to do a lecture on sub nucleonic particle physics.

However, the BBC have engaged  a sports lawyer on to deliver a more, er, accurate account of the way things are, but they soon put a stop to that, when it didn’t suit their agenda..

When clear heads realise how clear the answer is, the trophies will be stripped, and awarded to the runners up.

Whether those clear heads belong to the SFA/SPFL..

Image result for stop it i'm going to pee

or European or World officials is all that remains to be seen.

We may also see a few media owners wondering why their Scottish branches have failed miserably to cover the story of the biggest ever sports scandal while it was developing right there under their noses..

One or two editors, one or two presenters and several hacks will be screaming every time their phone rings over the next week or so…

Back at the ranch, and while Celtic were sending out a warning to the rest of Scottish football that they would concentrate on the football..

someone was having a look around.

By the way, who slipped into the stands and took the picture, which allows the world to know that Olivier Ntcham was in Glasgow for a tour and a medical ?

Ntcham is expected to sign, which will add a bit of steel to the midfield.

Hopefully, though, Rodgers will resist the temptation to throw him into action against Linfield on Friday, especially as Scott Brown limped off after half an hour yesterday.

Brown picked up a knock.. Rodgers explained..

“His  Achilles was a little bit sore and we just need to asses that over the next couple of days, but nothing too serious I don’t think, but we will see how that is.”

His heel was hurting ?

Could have been worse, he could have broke a toenail or messed up his mascara.

Image result for big girls blouse

Anyhoo, the rest of the lads did well without him, recording a 9-0 win that must have scared the shit out of Linfield.

Especially as they were beaten at windsor Park by Hearts, 4-1..

Linfield manager David Healey said, perhaps with his tongue in his cheek, and a finger up his bottom to prevent further leakage..

“I did hear the Celtic score against Shamrock, someone told me the good news,” laughed Healy. “We had someone at the game and they have sent me through the match report – I told him to delete it after the first couple of goals. Maybe I’m going to play a six-four-zero!

“No, I’m going to ask the players to enjoy it. It’s a huge, huge occasion. We will probably never, ever play Celtic again in the second qualifying round of the Champions League. Enjoy the occasion because you might never get it again.

“Some of these players are getting on a bit, some of these players are young. Some of them might never get the chance of playing again at this level.”

Their support are looking forward to it…

Roll on Friday 14th July … We will be waiting for The Celtic FC Bus in Belfast … Be Afraid Bhoys

We’ve heard it all before.
There are a lot of threats, a lot of attempts at intimidation on social media, and a lot of nonsense written about an issue which, as i recall writing at the time, would come back and bite us on the arse were it not properly dealt with.
.
It wasn’t properly dealt with back then, and now we’re all reaching in the cupboards for the TCP and some cotton wool.
That bite is in danger of becoming a poisonous sore, which could have fatal consequences.
Act now, strip the titles and expel the Ibrox club, at least until they say they are sorry, and do a few expulsions of their own.
Due to misgivernance over the years, and I’m going back decades, the game in Scotland has a lot to sort out over the next wee while, and that includes child abuse, financial irregularities, corruption and collusion.
This is the time to clean it all up.
What are we waiting for ?
Yesterday, we had this picture, in a vain attempt to move away from the woes of football..
Didn’t quite turn out that way..

Unbelievable statement from Gordon Parks in today’s Sunday Mail. In a piece ostensibly suggesting the GASL shouldn’t be making statements designed to deflect attention away from Sevco’s Euro eventually Parks eventually gets back to his intended theme by saying that most Rangers fans he knows have had their fill of the EBT issue.

The biggest concern is that only 3 fans groups have come out in favour of stripping the titles. The rest seem to be afraid or actually condoning it. So much for the integrity of Scortishbfootball. They all seem happy to continue in a fixed system. There is no hope for it.

Award winning journalism is hard to come by
So when you find such brilliance spread the word far and high
Take Keith at the Rangord he’s been scooping up prizes
Stories off the Radar much to our surprises
Then theres yer man JJ who dismisses any dangers
A Bear with a stauner for all things bad at The 2angers
He claims to be first in all that he writes
Though guys like Phil have him bang to rights
For years we were reading about Charlottes Fakes
About the practices at Ibrox and cunts on the take
All this was free if you had internet connection
Send JJ a tenner he gets an instant erection
It just seems a bit odd for some lookin in
That a Ger would be pandering to the whims of us tims
But then lm not convinced he’s a Rangers Supporter
Just a guy in the know who needs a new motor
Or holidays abroad or to treat his new burd
And the fools with the cash hang on to every word
I think he’s playing fellow Tims all for a fool
And If you part with your cash you’ll end up looking a tool

I’m well aware of Phil’s stance on the British Army and his views on a united Ireland
I happen to agree with some of them.
Though what relevance any of that has to do with the Huns cheating and EBTs I don’t know?
It would appear you are trying to steer all things this way to garner support on here?
Sad affair
Yer man JJ took a swipe at this forum for no apparent reason other than he think he owns the rights to all things EBT related?
Fanny that he is
Some FACTS
I happen to pay over £40 a month for BT Broadband and my phone
I’m not a Hun nor do I subscribe to any Hun related sites
As a 4th generation Irish Scot who was confirmed a Catholic in the late 70’s on the west coast of Scotland and attended a Catholic Primary and mixed Secondary l have never been a Mason or even considered becoming a Mason in my entire life.
My former Regiment has no relevance whatsoever that’s long gone in the past
So wrong on all of the above

Charming Weered.I’ll keep it simple. He brought up Phil’s name in his post and has stated that a British soldier agrees with some of Phil’s views regarding Ireland.Don’t think Phil would give him the time of day.He equates JJ with KJ,I disagree.Check out both of their work Weered and make up your mind.He spoke about “free” internet connections then had to state that he paid for BT,hence my WiFi comment. He states his regiment and their actions are in the past and we shouldn’t bother about that, then talks about title stripping from years gone by.Pick your history.Ask your peers Weered if they are happy to “forget” about the British regiments and just leave it in the past.Tell the Celtic fans when they sing Go on Home British Soldiers that it doesn’t apply to some.Pathetic.

It’s a poem about the stuff that’s relevant today.
You brought up prize winning journalism l highlight the fact that fuckwit Jackson is scooping up awards writing pish every week hence the bit about stories off the Radar.
I highlighted Phil and Charlottes Fakes because both were raking up info years before JJ very hit the scene and neither were found asking for dough at the time.
I have no issue with Phil’s views on a United Ireland or the actions of the Crown in fact l agree with them.
I abhor all violence l do not condone the murder of innocents regardless of who or what name it is carried out.
That’s a view l have had all my life.
Someone asked how they could get to view a game for free so l suggested Kodi on Amazon Firestick if all else fails though obviously the fact you have to lay out an initial £60-80 for it flew over your head.
You don’t like verse or poetry l get it each to their own.

I’ve been labelled a fenian cunt, taig,Catholic bastard most of my life by ignorant cunts and I’m damn sure l won’t have my background or motives on a Celtic site by an ignorant twat like you?

Ralph,

I understand you believing there is justification for your submission that stripping – you naked gives me palpitations 🙂 – trophies should apply to all games in which a club or clubs that have broken rules participated in thus making all such matches null and void. I could not argue with your opinion if justice was the only criteria. However, in football, laws are what apply and, even if they very often fail to provide real justice, they are all that we can legitimately rely on. Though it could be argued the SFA, SPFL, UEFA or FIFA would be justified in following your suggestions, tradition i.e. verdict interpretations, has established that penalties are meted out to the offending club only. Given the current interpretation of rules and regulations and the traditional penalties applied, I cannot see any justification for penalising other clubs affected by Rangers (IL)’ offences. I contend, therefore, only games and trophies awarded to Rangers (IL) should be declared null and void.

There is, of course, the practicality of taking the actions you suggest. There would be ramifications throughout the whole of European football. Voiding all Rangers (IL)’ games, would cause a storm of protest from European clubs who won European trophies during the “cheating” years. It would then be unjust to exempt European clubs and penalise only those Scottish clubs affected. Besides, logistically, it would be a nightmare sorting out the results and the financial implications would be almost impossible to resolve. Justice not only has to be seen to be done, for us humans, I think it should be practical too. It seems to me to be common sense to accept the status quo with regard the application of penalties. In this instance, it they should apply to Rangers (IL) alone.

I would not want what I have written to be misconstrued. I would dearly wish for true and full justice and would most willingly accept all consequences even if they were detrimental to the current history of Celtic. Nor are my arguments in any way based on a bias toward Celtic, hatred of another club or a deep founded respect for the law. No, it is based on the practicalities of justice, limited by human laws, for the sake of restoring a semblance of integrity into a sport that has lost its way “big time”. I hope you would regard me a little justified in thinking this way.

You make some good points, PB. As always, anything to do with the toxic club spreads contagion to most things it touches.
How about this as an alternative: it also allows the deluded hordes to hang onto the same club myth, and kill two birds with one stone. Ban all “Rangers” for cheating, sine die, and consign that shower to oblivion. It would also remove the most poisonous ‘cathedral’ on the planet and they’d have to find somewhere else to ‘worship’ their hatred and racism.
Just a thought………but I like it.

It would appear that a certain desperate bunch within the Scottish Football community are clutching at straws now regarding the calls for removing titles from their previous Club?
There seems to be an opinion within said quarters that Child Abuse and Tax Avoidance (on a personal level) have somehow manifested into aiding and abetting Celtic FC in their quest to gain an advantage on the field of play?
Here are some facts that may or may not help those that are evidently confused in these matters
1 Child abuse only serves to give the perpetrator an advantage over the victims.
It has nothing to do with football though some will have used football as a way of exploiting their victims again for personal gain.
If anything these actions will have denied Celtic the services of some these victims in their careers.
2 The use of Film Companies etc to avoid paying tax was th free choice of that individual Celtic FC have already paid their dues on Taxation at source via wages and NI Contributions as a result gains absolutely nothing from the individuals choice in what they do with their own finances from that point onwards.
3 Stories were abound around the 70’s of Celtic Directors heading across to Ireland with suitcases bulging with money.
That money if in fact true was denied to Celtic FC and as a result would have left us financially worse off in regards money available for signings and Ground maintenance etc.
Celtic have never cheated the system to gain an advantage on or off the Park.
One exception in the signing of Juninho in 2004 however does raise the issue of EBTs at Celtic.
That issue was dealt with back then as Celtic were never comfortable with this signing arrangement to start with.
As a result the Club contacted HMRC. and settled up the difference in full.
Rangers never in fact they decided to hide evidence and continue to bring in more and more players fully aware that under normal circumstances they could not afford them.
Several Directors have intimated that they knew at the time that this was wrong.
Dave King himself openly apologised and admitted if found guilty then they had gained advantage by improper means
None of the above gave Celtic any form of advantage on the park in fact it could be argued Juninho was a complete waste of money and poor business all round for Celtic.
Celtic at that time had built a decent side within their means and more importantly legally within the rules set out by the. SFA SPL and HMRC.
Do yersel a favour and accept that…
Rangers have been found guilty of breaking the rules in order to gain an advantage
Rangers Fc were Liquidated and so therefore are nothing to do with the Club you now follow follow.
If you need clarification on the latter then read Sir David Murrays statement on the EBT Ruling again.
He clearly states that Rangers Fc the Club were Liquidated under Whyte.

Now jog on.

Desimond,
I think we are at day 150 of me ” being patient “, regarding the SFA issuing a public condemnation of racial abuse, that was aimed Scott Sinclair.
Just saying like

I have only just caught up with the fact that BT have sold the rights of Celtic’s preliminary rounds to an outfit called Premier TV, I think. I have been a big fan of BT but this seems sneaky.

These days I don’t worry about ” digs” at Celtic, good manager, good team, lovely football and winning everything in sight what’s to get negative about? Now in the dying days of the Kellys’and Whytes I was a tad more sensitive. The 1872/2012 Boys aren’t swinging because they are secure and happy, they are hurting because they sense more bad news is in the way. If they felt the worst was over I think they would have a much lower profile. I think they believe there is more bad news and they are trying to influence it the only way they know how, by bullying and intimidating , a strategy that soon runs out of road.

Where are you seeing that?

Previously they only had the rights for Play-Off round onward, so has it changed?

Yep, previously our qualifying games have been on ITV, C5 etc not restricted to BT or Sky before them.

PS Keep up the good work – Signed a BT Pensioner 🙂

When I replied about the box from EBay,I referenced the point that you made several days ago about loyalists trying to defraud Celts with ticket scams, kidding on that GASL had “sold me tickets, plain enough….

I think the 1872/2012,group are aware that the worst isn’t over yet and that there is more to come. They are trying to influence this the only way they know how, bullying and intimidation. I do t think that is likely to be an effective strategy, it would be interesting if clubs outside Scotland started to get involved, even thevSFA couldn’t keep a cover up going then.
