Celtic Diary Thursday June 15: All The Stories From All Around

Scott Allan joined Dundee on loan yesterday, prompting an internal enquiry at Celtic Park to determine which member of staff spoke to Neil McCann.

The midfielder is a little bit of an enigma, promising so much yet delivering so little. Could a loan  loan spell under the vastly experienced television pundit bring out the best in Allan ?

Maybe the former Hibernian man is being a little over optimistic , but then again, judging from what he says about his time at Celtic, its difficult to work out what he’s thinking.

If , indeed, he does any thinking.

“I wouldn’t say I’ve been disappointing with my time at Celtic. I got a winners medal in my first year and learned a lot from Brendan Rodgers during pre-season.

“I took the decision to go on loan so I’ve learned a lot from him and I have no regrets.

“I don’t think I have to prove to anyone I just think it’s about being happy and that is by kicking a ball about every Saturday so it’s an easy decision in that sense.”

From that last line I think the problem may be that he thinks he’s already made it, whatever it is.

Another layer on the way out, and this must be one of the most remarkable pieces of transfer business ever, is Saidy Janko.

He’s off to Bristol city, and they are paying a six figure sum for him.

Sorry, did I say six figures…. ?

Nonetheless, Celtic can still expect to secure over £1 million for his signature this summer, The Scottish Sun add, with Bristol City the frontrunners. Not bad for a player who made just ten league appearances two years after signing on a free from Manchester United.

HITC sources told us recently that Sheffield Wednesday and Reading were also in the race for Janko but it appears that Bristol City are edging closer to the finishing line.

Well, that should pay a significant chunk of the fee supposedly agreed for Johnny Hayes, who it turns out doesn;t fancy Cardiff but is prepared to have a shot at holding down a place in the Celtic side.

The clubs have agreed a fee, which includes Ryan Christie going back north on loan. There was talk of the dons being interested in another Celtic player, but there is competition for Gary Mackay steven , who must by now be sick of being pushed towards the exit door by the media.

As for Hayes, he’s away on his jollies just now, but will discuss his wages and get a medial when he comes back.

Gary Mackay Steven is not in the same resort and is not following him around, plying him with drink and encouraging to hire a jet ski.

Remember Joe Ledley ?

Image result for joe ledley Celtic

Look at the state of him now..

Image result for joe ledley Celtic

There is talk of a humanitarian expedition south to rescue the now ridiculously hirsute Welshman and help him get his self respect back.

Ledley could do a job, and he’d be available for free, like he always is, the Welshman one of a select few who stay at a club for the duration of a contract. Unless Peter Lawwell gets wise to you, that is, and shouts you in from training to give you a lift to Crystal Palace.

At one time I would tend to go with the idea that a player should never go back to a previous club, but Bertie Auld kicked that notion out of me.

And probably anyone else who said that in front of him.

Reto Zeigler had been telling all the papers Celtic were interested in him yesterday, and now today Celtic are telling all the papers they aren’t.

Fabio Borini wants to go back to Italy after spending some time in Englands picturesque north eastern chemical and heavy industry conurbation.

Glen Whelan of Stoke city is another touted for a move to Celtic, but the papers clearly got the wrong midfielder here. There is interest in a Stoke man, but its not that one.

Its not me either, sadly, as Celtic will continue to pursue players with a better than average chance of not collapsing in a wheezing heap during the pre match warm up.

I can live with that, as apparently I’d have to eat fruit and vegetables, which grow in the ground or on trees  where bugs and worms live, and I don’t fancy that at all.

Adnan Januzaj ?

Oh come on, thats not even a name.

( It is-Ed )

Januzaj, some of you may remember, is a Manchester United fan who tends to put on his kit and run around the Old Trafford pitch when no one is looking.

Ah, google him yourself, we’ll have forgotten all about the story by the weekend anyway.

Something we should never forget about is the crass incompetence at the SFA…

The SFA have killed our World Cup dreams says heartbroken cerebral palsy captain

THE skipper of Scotland’s cerebral palsy footballers has accused the SFA of killing their sporting dreams.

Hard-hearted Hampden bosses have withdrawn the Scotland team from the World
Championships in Argentina to protect its independence with FIFA .

But Jonny Paterson has accused the SFA of treating him and his team-mates as second-class citizens and fears disabled players have just lost their international side – ranked ninth in the world – forever.

The SFA moved after the governing body of cerebral palsy football, the IFCPF, changed its rules to allow any player with a British passport to represent a home nation of their choice

A statement said: “The SFA believes that continued participation in IFCPF competitions may
potentially jeopardise Scotland’s status as an independent football nation.”

SFA chief executive Stewart Regan said: “It is regrettable that despite our appeals the IFCPF has chosen to enforce this rule, which we believe would have a detrimental effect on Scotland’s status as an independent football nation.”

Shall I tell you what could have a detrimental effect on Scotlands status as an independent football nation ?

You can choose any of the following…

Stewart Regan. Cheating. Corruption. Secrecy. Incompetence. Arrogance.

As long as Scotland retains an independent football association , there will always be a national team.

Thats how it works.

Regan, as usual, is shwoing that he has no knowledge of how football works, and certainly no empathy towards those who play or watch the game from outside the walls of Ibrox or Hampden.

He’s made some bad decisions during  his tenure at the SFA, but this one is the worst.

Again, Mr Regan, its time for you to fuck off and leave us to get on with running our own game.

Elsewhere, and it seems the “rangers ” support have indeed moved to distance themselves from their ancestors at Rangers by continuing to add some catchy little numbers to their match day songbook.

We’ve already featured a couple of tracks, and the forthcoming album looks set to dominate sales  at christmas, especially if they can keep up this sort of quality…

The backing singers are already in place to support the bears on their summer festival tour…

Record company research shows there is a massive market to exploit in Glasgow, at least…

Very disappointed about Christie not getting a shot. i presume that the papers are at it with Whelan, Januzal, Ledley and Borini (although he is an old one). Surely there is no way that Rodgers is interested ina ny of these players. Joe Ledley was excellent for Celtic but that was then this is now. I am still hoping that Sunderland take Hayes and we make a real effort to sign Roberts. I reckon that the Roberts shipped has sailed. we may live to regret this. He will be wasted at Stoke or West Brom. We will just need to wait a couple of weeks for some actual news. However, there is obviously a massive clearout going on in Mexico…

John,
Apart from Hayes being a winger, what gives you the impression that we won’t sign Roberts?
Everyone is on holiday that is why things are quiet.
Jonny Hayes may not be a sexy signing, but every squad needs it’s workhorses, guys who can contribute during the season.
I actually think we have got Hayes in his prime, maybe put your faith in Brendan a bit more, if Brendan thinks he can contribute, who are we to argue?
Look at what Brendan did with Ambrose for example, did not include him in the CL squad & was never in the team again…..you see, Brendan knows what he’s doing.
Having said that, i’m sure it’s knawing away at Brendan he never tried Efe in defensive midfield 🙂

Hayes can back up Sinclair at the very least. Sinclair was on his erse by the end of the season so be good to have a swap option.

I think Hayes could be quite the signing, like Kris Commons but with the ability to get up and down the pitch and take firm instructions and be subbed without throwing the dummy.

Every now and again theres a need for a few seasoned professionals with some heart and mind, think Barry Robson. I await Hayes scoring with his first kick too, hopefully against Aberdeen.

I don’t think its Hayes or Roberts but if we cant land Paddy then at least we have added to a diminished squad in some way. All the talk of SPFL quality is ultimately pish, Europe is Europe and we have journeymen against star players and should remember, 10 in a row is the focus, everything else is a bonus.

Too many spoiled Celtic fans moaning about Johnny Hayes imminent transfer, saying he ain’t good enough for us or he ain’t a marquee signing etc , bollocks . This guy will do a fine job for us , and will probably be involved in champions league also as well as domestic scene, think back to centenary season when Caesar came back to the club, one of the first signings he made was also from Aberdeen, and again a guy who was deemed past it by many Celtic fans who weren’t anamoured about his signing, but big Billy Stark gave us sterling service for two seasons and certainly made his mark with a terrific goal scoring return and assist record over that period, I reckon Hayes will be likely to do the very same and make all the spoiled doubters think again.

As others have said; Hayes is a solid signing, but I would be disappointed if his signing meant we were not pursuing Paddy Roberts. Probably like every other fan, I think signing Paddy would be our best bit of business in well over a decade, it’s an absolute no brainer. The bhoy is only going to improve, even if we need to pay £10m for him you would get that back (plus plenty more) after 2-3 years developing and improving in Europe. And what a statement it would be! Get him signed up FFS!!!

I think Paddy will be a Celtic player come the start of the season. Maybe it’s another loan,or a permanant move remains to be seen. But Champions league, or Europa at worst, fans who idolise him, what’s not for him to like. He is young enough to go to the Premiership,in the next couple of years. So come home Paddy, you know it makes sense.
Johhny Hayes is a good signing for us,he will be even better with Brendan’s guidance.

If we hang about, do you think Pedro will sign us.

Regarding wee Paddy, English Premier League want Giants, look at the England team last week. Many Premier teams will see Paddy as a luxury they cannot use, there is a good chance BR can get him. Johnny Hayes for the money is not a bad signing, adding to strength in depth, but we badly need a couple of powerful defenders, Lustig is getting on and Boyata, well that is an egnima.

The Cha

Reply to  Cartvale88

Boyata is our no.1 centre back according to Brendan with Jozo and Erik vying for the other place before the latter lost form or went in the huff.

He is better in the air and a better passer than the others.

Up at Aberdeen Stockley was giving Jozo a doing before Dedryck took over and put him in his back pocket.

Here’s where I’m at regarding priorities…
Under normal circumstances i.e. we have an average to half decent squad fit for domestic purpose then a League & Scottish Cup double and a decent showing in Europe is a decent return?
However given the showing this season and squad at our disposal plus signings of similar or better quality I feel the priority should shift too a better showing in the Champions League i.e. Last 16 or Europa after Christmas ?
The League Cup is and always will be a diddy Cup regardless but a must have if trebles are to be attained.
So this Season coming I think a League and Cup double plus European football after Christmas would be regarded as a great season given our financial constraints by comparison to the big leagues.

He isn’t our player it’s not life or death. But he would have been a marquee signing and a marker would have been set.
We don’t need a rush of players but we do need quality for Europe. Griffiths could in fact become the wide player on the right,to cut inside, we also have Hayes and Forret, the media of course will stir it up,that we have lost out,but we only had him on loan, and it is for Man City and Paddy to decide what’s best for him next.. Brendan must do what’s right for Celtic.

Spot on Jimmy. Those are the kind of players like Roberts we need to step up a level in the CL.

I’d be delighted if Paddy came to us on a permanent deal, it’s 50-50 at absolutely most optimistic. I want Paddy back as a creative force, if we don’t get him back then we need alternatives perhaps not even in the same role but causing problems and pulling defenders. Hayes will be a very decent signing, he’s pacey, aggressive, can finish and works like a Trojan. The real creativity will come from elsewhere. Reminds me of ‘Moneyball” to an extent.

Some posters being a bit harsh on Paddy Roberts. He can’t make Celtic meet Man City’s asking price (whatever that may be) when other clubs can without even blinking. He has to keep his options open as his next move is vital to the progress of his career, and what a career he may have if he continues to develop the way he has of late. It’s also a bit much to question his commitment to the Hoops when he chose to turn down the chance to potentially win an under-20s World Cup winning medal to help us achieve what we did.

Like most others on here I’ll be sorely disappointed if at least part of that future is at Paradise but hey-ho life will go on and we will find another hero. If Paddy doesn’t sign permanently then I wish him nothing but the best and thank him for his contribution to a once in a lifetime season.

Well said – he chose to play for Celtic over England treble over World Cup. Must like Celtic a bit then

Spot on.
He came to Celtic to improve his game and secure European football which hopefully would lead to a career at Man City?
As far as I am aware City have not told him to find another Club and so you would think he has achieved what he set out to achieve at Celtic?
Good luck to him he’s too good to be plying his trade in the SPFL imo.

Agreed Monti but as has been proven this Season Celtic as a Club is too good for the SPFL

Just wanted to mention all of the volunteers, who are helping the poor souls who survived the tower block fire in London.
Good to see people helping others in situations as this.
Good stuff!!

Looking at Hayes signing I think he could be a better fit than Forrest. Forrest is good but still has a shite bag element to his game where Hayes is a fearless terrier and more of a man. I think he will surprise many on here. He’s an Irish international who can step up

Iancelt,
Bit harsh on James Forrest m8, James brings a lot to Celtic, he has proved his worth to Celtic, reflected in the fact that Brendan played him consistently at the start of the season.
It would be a sad day for me if James ever left.

I assume he means more likely to get stuck in, mix it up a bit, crunch into the tackle, that kind of thing.
