Celtic Diary Wednesday April 5: Things To Watch Out For

No diary yesterday, I had to take the car early on back to Arnold Clark where i discivered that their Autocare warranty doesn’t actually seem to cover anything.

Then I had to help my son move house, he’s setting out in the world all by himself, but still wants to come home for his tea.

We’re selling up, but not going to tell him.

It’s Glasgow derby day, and Partick Thistle have sold all of their allocation.

These games are the type where form can go out of the window, and interestingly , Partick are still in with a shout of finishing in the top half of the table..

Updated 4/04/2017 at 21:43

Aberdeen strengthened their hold on second place with another win last night, 1-0 over Inverness, who seem to be coming to the end of their current run in the top flight.
Mind you, Motherwell need to watch thenmselves. Dropping a couple of points to plucky minnows “rangers ” didn’t help their cause at the weekend.

With the league won, there is talk that Brendan Rodgers will start looking for another job, that Dermot Desmond will run off with the seasons takings, and that Kris Commons may say his farewells to the crowd tonight.

As will Nir Biton, Keiran Tierney, Moussa Demeble, Scott Sinclair and Stuart Armstrong, who has now joined the SMSM’s to-sell list.

James McClean, the West Brom winger, might even pop in to say hello. He’s been pictured in a Celtic top wishing the team well after winning the league, and some fans have taken that to mean he’s in line to replace Patrick Roberts, should Manchester City remember he’s actually their player.

Celtic may yet secure a permanent deal-for around £5m for the player- but he has said he wants to go back to England, for a rest , presumably.

When asked about a possible McClean move to Celtic, his manager, Tony Pulis, who usually has the rest of the season off when his teams get to forty points, replied..

“I haven’t got a clue,”

“I’ll have a chat with him when he comes in.”

McClean has been criticised /praised for his political beliefs in the past, and along with the once touted siging of Stephen Ireland and giving him the number thirty two short, could be seen as a cynical marketing ploy.

We sent our man round to speak to McClean, and asked him about his republican sympathies, but he declined to comment, and simply carried on dipping his volunteers into his egg.

Except for tomorrow, possibly, when I have to go back to Arnold Clark as the part should be in by then. It’s not covered by the warranty, did I mention hardly anything fucking is ?

While we are talking about absences, has anyone seen this man ?

Celtic's Derk Boerrigter is fouled by St Johnstone's David Mackay for a penalty and is later sent off

Derk Boerrigter was released from his hospital bed by Celtic exactly a year ago today. Moves to roda JC and the USa fell through when he was asked to walk a hundred yards or so unaided, and since then he’s vanished.

As he is prone to ill health, we’d like to ask you to keep an eye out for him, and if you know where he is , maybe even pop in and see how he is.

After the long and cold winter, he may be getting ready to venture out, and it would make me feel better if there was someone to be there for him.

Just to make sure he’s alright.

Kolo Toure returned to the side at the weekend, and if Celtic remain unbeaten then he will be the first plyer in football history to win two league titles with two different unbeaten clubs. To help secure this unique feat, manager Brendan Rodgers has decided to leave him out for the reat of the sides games.

Toure isn’t the player he used to be, but neither is he yet the coach he’s going to be. He’s going to be a great coach, and Celtic should sign him up as soon as possible to keep working with the defence, which has improved beyond recognition since he got here.

There’s something else that deserves noting about this season…

Celtic join Al-Ahly and Olympiakos as the only clubs in world football – alive or dead – to win 6 straight titles on 3 different occasions.

Odd how the worlds most successful club. Timmy, aren’t on that list.

And they never will be.

In fact, later today, Auldheid’s definitive piece on the same club argument will be up on the site, at noon, to be precise. Read it, savour it, and use it to shit a few people up.

Facts are something they don’t like, and that article contains all of the facts that are relevant.

As we saw during the winter window, not many players want to leave Celtic, and thats always a good sign.

It doesn’t look like the manager wants to go either…

Its just about who wants to come in..and thats not something the press will get all excited about.

Not surprisingly, there has been no official censure of Hearts or their supporters over their behaviour towards Celtic defender Mikael Lustig.

Perhaps there’s a lack of evidence, as we have seen in the past that the cameras over at Tynecatle seem to be on the blink when a Celtic employee suffers at the hands of their fans.

However, perhaps this will help..

Celtic should protect their players, and they should say something.

We should also look to protect our fans, and in this piece from donegals Phil Macghiollabhan, there’s enpugh to set alarm bells ringing.

Freedom of Information and Glasgow City council

Again, you won’t find this story in the mainstream media, which appears to me to suggest that the council won’t reveal details of any concerns about safety at Ibrox because, er , it might worry people.

What is worrying me is that the next time Celtic play there has already been announced-April 23, and its still the only fixture from the post split games to be announced.

Are the two items related ?

We’re already concerned about possible events on the field, and there’s a possibility that the Ibrox support might not be too bothered about the result, certainly in the league fixture, which doesn;t matter..

If Senderos wants to go out a rangers legend, last OF of the season he needs to just ruin Sinclair, I mean career ending, no mercy brutality

Of course, this could well be an isolated viewpoint, but the amount of injuries to Celtic players thus far, and the attempts to add to them, notably from Kenny Miller in the last game, make me wonder..

Indeed, Miller might well see his Ibrox career coming to an end, as new manager Pedro the Unpredictable has told him he’ll have to wait and see if he gets a new contract-like its got anything to do with him, – and the orange tinted forward might  be feeling a little bitter.

among their support, its not just bitterness, its downright stupdity.

More to be pitied than scorned, here are a couple of examples that will make you scratch your head.

A wee reminder that no fucks are given when it comes to that lot

He’s not the only one…

We can help, you know.

I’m starting an appeal to try to change things for them. They will thank us in the long run.

It’s time to help them move into the twenty first century.

Though perhaps not as quickly as one particular establishment we heard about..

Their support is often criticised for their reluctance to join the rest of us in the modern world, and it all comes from their somewhat sinister masonic practices, which have been known to alarm not only people, but certain sections of the animal kingdom, which has seen abnormal behavioural practices to avoid, er, abmormal behavioural practices..

We go back to Monday for the caption competition…

Looking forward to Auldheeds summary, certain that I read somewhere that the new club would be granted entry into the Europa competition, despite the ongoing financial shenanigans.
How can that be possible? I read it and thought it a work of fiction. If its true then if the Supreme Court finds in Hectors favour, then the Board must take swift action to go after thems and put a stop to the financial doping and retrieve the titles.
We live in interesting times.

Reading it, was just sublime,
every sentence, it did rhyme,
a poet in his prime,
I enjoyed its every line,
I put it down ma heed, was bleeding,
a sign surely, of inward breeding,
but more, more,of that I am needing,

A tale worth telling,

For years the support craved for a settle team, this is now happening under Brendan and must have a baring on the teams success. Before Brendan players were sold for profit or the team
was tinkered about, for whatever reason, we never had that settled team. Training and playing together can only be beneficial to both team and players, you can see that as a major reason for continued development with the players, those who work train and play together, ensures a tight group, playing in systems that all are familiar with.
There is now at last, no reason to sell players, that is how it should be and long may it last.

RIP to the fans who lost their life’s whilst attending a Scotland England match in 1902. Glasgow City Council take heed of the warnings from the contractors who are telling you it is not safe.

Nearly 80,000 people squeezed into Ibrox 106 years ago this day in 1902. to watch the 31st Scotland v England international, the first between wholly professional teams.

The ground was state-of-the-art, built at the then substantial cost of £20,000. Both Rangers and Celtic wanted to host the match which went to Ibrox by just a single vote.

By the time the sides trooped off after a 1-1 draw, 26 people lay dead and 547 were injured. Grotesquely, the applause of the crowd was punctuated by groans from the injured and dying. Some casualties hung, seriously injured and upside down, from the laticework of torn girders and woodwork, before they could be lowered to the ground.

The authorities thought more havoc and injury might have been wrought if the match had been abandoned. The majority apparently left ignorant of any incident, although the match was interrupted for almost 20 minutes.

Eighteen were reported dead 24 hours later, but it was three weeks before the final victim died.

Wooden joists snapped clean through in what is now the Broomloan stand. They’d been laid on a steel frame-work, supporting wooden decking, but a hole some 20 yards square opened up. Hundreds of spectators plunged up to 40 feet to the ground. Rescuers found: “a scene of indescribable horror and confusion . . . a mass of mangled and bleeding humanity, the victims piled one above the other . . . enough to unman the strongest.” The resources of the city’s hospitals were over-stretched. Doctors in the crowd leant immediate help, but at Govan police station, cells were called into service as a casualty clearing station.

The scale of disfiguring injuries can best be judged from a Herald report of how the father of one unfortunate went to the Western Infirmary on Saturday night in the hope of finding his 25-year-old son, William Robertson. He was not among the injured, so the father was shown to the mortuary where he identified a body as being that of William. He was arranging the funeral when his son arrived home at Bainsford, Falkirk.

The accident, on Saturday April 5 1902, was reported in these columns on the Monday. The previous day there had been hardly any debris at the scene, according to Glasgow Herald reporters. Virtually all the timber and sheets of corrugated iron had been used as makeshift stretchers.

More than two weeks after the incident, we put the injured at 547.

The match was declared void and was replayed in Birmingham. All proceeds went to the disaster fund.

The contractor was later prosecuted, but was acquitted. However the accident ended the practice of supporting wooden terracing on steel frames. Earth embankments or concrete terracings were introduced. There were no further significant safety developments in Scotland until the second Ibrox Disaster, in 1971, when 66 died.

Football not really at the forefront of my thinking today, not when people are being bombed and gassed to death in Syria.
Any parent watching the footage from Syria, of children choking to death is beyond words.
Donald Trump could reverse most peoples opinion of him instantly by declaring military against Assad, today.
This shit cannot go unpunished.

P.S. That was for American ears, if Theresa May is looking in, don’t get involved, there has been enough unarmed people shot and bombed in Syria without the British going in.

Come on Trump, go after Assad today and all is forgiven!

Don’t be duped.

The West, essentially USA and its poodles eg us, have and are committing atrocities in Syria, Iraq etc and given carte blanche to regimes like Saudi Arabia and Israel to do the same.

Assad has wide popular support and although there’s also wide opposition this is fragmented and includes likes of Daesh and similar.

The West wish to intervene in Syria and Yemen for oil etc and not for moral reasons. They’ve had 60 years to come to the aid of Palestine and have done nothing but provide support to the Apartheid Israel regime.

Kris, I would fear for the safety of James McLean in this country if he signed for Celtic. He would have no life from the moronic hoardes who would dish out their worst. After 20 minutes no chances created even tho we have total control of the midfield. Nice passing tho. Bitton gets a header over the top at 21 minutes, that is the only chance.

We should be out of sight here, given our contl of the midfield and Thistle have hardly ventured up the park.

Frustrating but nice to see the teamwork.

Rebus

rebus67

Thistle are giving us all but their penalty area where they defend in depth. Their defence is very well organised. Sinclair feels he has to win the game on his own and should lay the ball off occasionally. McGregor takes the extra touch before passing or shooting. That is the downside but the teamwork is a joy to behold. Eboue is working his way into the team nicely. Both wing backs are excellent.

Bitton got the best chance with a nice shot on goal.

Sinclair scores after a nice feed by Roberts. BR revamps the team to give Rogic an outing. He takes Izzy off and plays with no left back. Thistle bore down the left and cross for Thistle to scope the ball into the net.

Gamboa then wins a penalty which Sinclair misses.

FT 1-1. We need a striker. I know we are playing as we are because of injury. The team played well until the subs in the second half. All cohesion went out of the midfield and attack after the subs. Leaving the LB position exposed was a mistake that PT exploited. Thank goodness Jozo was on form he saved us a couple of times.

Good competitive game between two teams who played hard but fair.

Its always disappointing when results do not match your expectations, Brendan surprised moi with his team selection, but it is hardly suprising that after winning the title AGAIN, that he rested some players.
The good news is that Tom Rogic got a run out after injury, well done Tom, great to see you back and Eboue Kouassi got a start and seemed to slot in nicely, it was difficult to see across 35 miles of pitch dark but we have high hopes for you Eboue. Well done Celtic, undefeated still.
