Celtic Diary Wednesday March 1: March Winds Blow All Away

Can you believe it ?

It’s March already. The month of the shamrock.

Shamrock:
The Shamrock (also referred to as clover) can rock our worlds with symbolic insight. They are remarkable survivors and can endure seemingly insurmountable challenges in their stubborn determination to live and thrive. Through droughts, substandard soil and ravenous goat appetites, the shamrock is a champion survivor. This is the spirit of Mars coming through – fierce will. and, the Shamrock is a common symbol of St. Patrick’s day (March 17th) – an icon of the “fighting Irish.”.

And what a month it promises to be..

At some point the sixth title in a row should be clinched. Thats a good thing, as it will allow for some of the players to have a wee break, others to get a few games, and the rest of us to sit back and relax as one or two court cases dominate the headlines.

Whats the earliest the title can be won ? Mathematically, that is. Properly won unless the SFa introduce a rule which allows other sides to go for snookers.

As you can see from the table, Aberdeen currently have 52 points. With eleven games to play, the best they can do is reach 85 points.
To match that, Celtic must win three more games , to overtake that total, a draw is required. for those of you not entirely sure what a draw is, check the result of our last trip to Inverness. I know, it just seems so long ago…

Should Celtic win up at the picturesque-if its not bloody raining, snowing or blawin a hoolie- – Tulloch Caledonian stadium tonight, they will only require six points, seven to be certain.
Should Aberdeen lose to Motherwell, who have sacked Mark McGhee , their manager, so its not entirely unlikely, then three points at home to “rangers” -who have sacked their manager Mark Warburton, so its not entirely unlikely, the following day for the hoops, will mean that the superior goal difference all but wins the sixth.
An Aberdeen win means we’ll have to wait a week.
Winning the title at home against “rangers ” would be nice, but they were never serious challengers. Winning it away in either Dundee or Edinburgh would be one to remember though…

Of course, a lot depends on the result tonight.
Amir Mir, on the football insider website, puts our gas at a peep….with the help of Andy Walker, the ever so slightly mis-spelt pundit..

Andy Walker has backed Celtic to continue their winning run and beat Inverness 3-1 at the Caledonian Stadium on Wednesday night.

Sky Sports pundit Walker hailed striker Moussa Dembele and is hoping the 20-year-old stays at the club “longer than one year”.

Dembele has had a magnificent start to life in Scotland following his free transfer in the summer after leaving Championship side Fulham.

He has scored 15 goals in 25 Scottish Premiership games, including netting on six occasions during his last three matches.

Brendan Rodgers side have won 21 SPL games on the bounce and former Bhoys man Walker believes they will continue that run.

Hopefully, he will stay in Scotland longer than one year, magnificent debut season so far,” Walker told Sky Sports.

France under-21 international Dembele has played 42 games in all competitions for the SPL leaders, scoring 29 goals during those matches.

Three of those goals came during six Champions League games, two against English Premier League side Manchester City and the other against German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach.

Despite the Glasgow club dominating on the domestic circuit where they are yet to be beaten, they were humiliated during their European campaign earlier on in the season.

They failed to pick up a win in a group consisting of La Liga giants Barcelona, Borussia Monchengladbach and Manchester City.

Furthermore, they suffered a 7-0 loss at the Nou Camp but did record a 2-2 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

In other Celtic news, Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink believes this was a shrewd transfer by the club.

Thanks, Amir. Its good to keep our feet on the ground. Unless We happen to meet, when one of mine may well be raised in your direction.

Then Ladbrokes, the bookmakers who sponsor the league, decided they could use a few of our shiny pounds..

INVERNESS CT V CELTIC: BACK BHOYS TO HAMMER HIGHLAND OUTFIT AGAIN

It won’t be a hammering. It’ll be 1-0 , or maybe 2-0.

Inverness isn;t the easiest place to hand out a hammering, and after conceding six goals last time out , manager Richie Foran may well adopt a defensive formation this evening.

Who are we kidding. They’ll kick anything that moves, and anything that doesn’t move until it does.

Celtic will adopt the usual away tactic of heavy shelling followed by a ground offensive..

Whilst Inverness will hold back and try to absorb the pressure..

If you are thinking about a bet, go for a Celtic sending off.

The goat botherers will want to be sure we cannot secure the league against “rangers ” .

One of the delights of this month will be following all the court cases scheduled involving “rangers ” , Rangers , HMRC and Mike Ashley. Although the pantomime season is over, the cleverly crafted Ibrox saga now moves to more serious theatres, including the Supreme court.

We’ll try to keep ahead of events, but its bloody difficult to type whilst wetting oneself with laughter.

The Ides of March indeed.

Ironically, March used to be their favourite word…

It could well be that by the end of this month they will not be able to utter the word without the contents of their stomachs making a sudden and colourful entrance into the room.

New month, lots to look forward to.

One thing that we need to look at is the SFA/SPFL, especially if the Supreme Court judge decides that old Rangers were cheats.

Doncaster and Regan, with their own fully misfunctioning support cast have nearly destroyed our game, and for the moment, its worth asking them any or all of the five questions pondered by Tony Benn, when it comes to dealing with authority …

We can work through them as the month progresses..

What we will need is the support of our own club, and all the others should it be shown that the SFA is an organisation run by cheats for the benefit of cheats.

Keep an eye on the Scottish Football Monitor, and also the blogs of James Forrest. as the fight is just beginning…

I do like that picture.

If my mother was blonde I would probably never have left home.

One idea muted already is for the fans of all clubs to hold back on buying season books until the SFA/SPFL are cleaned out.

I cannot think of a better one.

At least not one that won’t end up with me doing a twenty stretch downtown.

Image result for trading places prison scene

The SFA/SPFL have made an arse of runnig the game in Scotland. Piss poor marketing, slipshod governance and , of course, lying cheating and colluding with a bunch of fraudsters who have fleeced a section of fans who only wanted their club to survive.

Even though it didn’t, and astonishingly, the SFA/SPFL told them it did.

Which kind of makes them complicit in the great basket of assets theft.

However, it’s all in the past, but they need to remember that some people don’t forget.

Not when you’ve upset them…

That was in the past….this could be the future…

Either that, or this.. courtesy of jengybhoy…

Or, of course, it could be this….

Then again, his five year ban is nearly up….

At long f**king last and in typically British fashion, we’ve been dragged to March 2017 by nothing other than time and tide. The vast majority of Football fans on this miserable Island have not demanded justice despite a catalogue of law breaking and decades of preferential treatment to one c(C)lub, regardless of its cremation. It doesn’t entirely surprise me considering most folk gave up on politics in the mid eighties (and never went back) as well as being risibly tasteless. I regularly get young yins in my cab at the weekend bemoaning their repeated misfortune with lovers and friends. I reliably inform them that maybe the problem is that they’re tasteless. Which, then requires me to ask what book are you reading just now, what’s your favorite current movies and TV and what are your general interests outside of work? Very rarely do I say, in fact never, oh! It’s not that then. But I digress. Seems to me that a lot of our lot are fully expectant of a jelly and ice cream overdose at Winters end. And that might very well be the case but somebody has to win to facilitate a loser. While it seems odds on that Agent Whyte has already been thrown under the bus the pertinent question to ask would be, who’s joining him. There are candidates I would suggest that PL and the rest of the Board are keen to see avoid such a fate. Candidates that know exactly the whereabouts of certain cadavers and who after finding themselves at the end of the road might sing. Having witnessed the piss poor performance of Rod McKenzie in the recent Kinloch Coral case, I’ll wager a Monkey that Bankier and his invertebrate others sphincters will be twisting and turning for the rest of the month. So, to what extent have we been burnt by association or will we just simply drown in the wash?

For me this is a time to relax and enjoy Celtic. The team has got a little bogged down on the heavier pitches at this time of year, but we are still winning, not conceding and really this will already go down as a great season. If we do the treble will go down as one of the greatest. If we also go through the season unbeaten in Scotland its one they’ll write books about.

The Supreme Court verdict is the next big event I’m looking out for. As it stands EBT use is considered illegal. If this judgement is upheld then for me it’s time to mobilise against the Lord Nimmo Smith judgement in a big way.

The report was we will remember hastily convened at a time when EBTs were considered legal and proceeded on this basis. It also said however the issue of legality was inconsequential to the question of sporting advantage, of which Rangers bizarrely accrued none despite having players they by their own admission could not have otherwise afforded.

So the LNS judgement is final as the question of legality is inconsequential and LNS saw no sporting advantage in paying for players they could not otherwise have afforded as other teams could have done the same thing had they chosen to.

This is patently nonsense – it they were illegal then other teams could not have utilised them without similarly facing a bill from the taxman and befalling the same fate as Rangers. If they are found to be illegal then LNS must be set aside and a new commission set up, one which begins from the premise that EBT use was illegal, setting up undeclared side payments was against SFA / SPFL regulations and any game in which players who received such payments featured saw not “imperfectly registered” players, but deliberately illegally (in football terms) registered players.

To be clear I don’t want any titles awarded to Celtic, I’m not even laying out what I think any punishment should be, I’m only (for now) adamant that LNS be set aside if EBT is upheld as being illegal and a new, independent review established.

LNS always felt like an odd judgement, one pre-determined so as not to rock the boat too much and upset “ra peepul”; It’s clear important information was withheld from the enquiry e.g. The “wee tax case” info, and EBTs being illegal was the perfect time to arrive at the conclusions they did.

Celtic noted their “surprise” at the LNS judgement at the time, a response many of us – myself included – thought was weak and unsatisfactory. Perhaps they were playing a long game ready to wait until the end of the appeals process before taking the issue up again, or perhaps they hoped that everyone would move on.

I’m not ready to do that; I feel that the game was cheated for many years and only a full and honest review with the possibility of wide reaching consequences will rectify that wrong. I’d love Celtic to get behind that position if the Supreme Court decision supports the view EBTs were illegal, but I’m perfectly prepared to get involved in a campaign to force the authorities to act if the Club don’t want to pick up the baton. I’d imagine I’m far from alone and not only Celtic fans would feel that way. There was a real spirit in 2012 of the need for “Sporting Integrity” to mean something, and it hasn’t gone away you know

Elcormaco, I find myself in total support of much of your piece there but I cannot accept the premise that there should be no awarding of titles to league runners up. If EBTs are confirmed as being illegal then the runners up were in fact the first non cheating competitors and therefore must be awarded the appropriate league titles. It really is that simple. Cups by virtue of their knock-out nature are different but in the league the winner must be the team who obeyed the rules and indeed laws and was pipped by a team that did not comply with these rules and laws.

Reply to  maryhillbhoy

Whilst I accept your own POV that runners-up, living within the law, should be awarded those titles and trophies in lieu of those gained illegally, my own POV is that these are the very titles and trophies that are tainted, and I do not want ONE SINGLE TITLE OR TROPHY contaminating the shrine that is Paradise!! If any other club has a modicum of decency and self-respect, they would also refuse those verdigris-stained trinkets and baubles! I personally believe that when the history of Scottish football is published in any and all formats, a generous dose of red ink/electronic font denotes the CHEATING YEARS, with a legend clearly and unequivocally laying bare the fullest explanation why rangers “won” them. I also want those same publications to state that they died in 2012, and that a tribute act has stepped in to take their place! !

Broxburnbhoy

Reply to  Steven R

I wonder if lathered and cyclists and others sports men and women feel the same way when a cheat is discovered, disqualified and then the gold is awarded to the runner up. On that logic the game with Legia was tainted as they played an illegible player. We still took the right approach that we should be awarded the game and we were. It’s the same thing. Those titles and cups need to go to the runners up who were unaware they were being cheated at the time.

TicToc

Reply to  maryhillbhoy

Maryhill, you’re spot on. 100% we should be awarded the League titles and take what we’ve earned. (Cups are more difficult so just remove them from the dead club’s record.) The dead huns have their records amended and then declared dead, suicididal cheating and death by Liquidation in 2012.
Nothing else is acceptable and it’s in the fucking rules to boot. Just award the opposing side a 3-0 victory for every game played with illegally registered players; don’t even need the Supreme Court ruling for this. Then clear out, root and branch, everyone who colluded with cheating; all those involved in the infamous 5-way agreement. Show no mercy, nor favour. Every fucking one of them, OUT sine die.

I agree with nearly everything. I disagree with the idea that the titles be left vacant, since the other teams who were competing legally should be awarded their appropriate position after Rangers are disqualified. Cycling and athletics seem to have no qualms with that and the athletes awarded the gold feel very much it belongs to them as they finished second without cheating. To fail to award the titles and cups to runners up, would be ridiculous and unfair given the the winners won because they had a unfair illegal advantage.

Does anyone keep up to date with the youngsters?

They seem to be making hard work of winning their league “Disappointment for Development Squad in Motherwell clash” http://www.celticfc.net/news/12156

They seem to be doing a reverse of the first team in that they won the league last year with only 1 draw and this year is more of a Deila slog.

Has the quality of the team dropped or have they just been unlucky in some games?

TI assumed it was more a case of the development squad being used to develop players more this year by letting them go on loan, Nesbitt Ajer and Christie all spring to mind and that seems to me to be better for the club than racking up development league titles.

Nearing HT and Celtic are 1-0 up from a Sinclair curler.
Only two shots on goal, one of which is a goal.
Bitton having an indifferent game, losing the ball in our half a few times.
Best of the bunch are Boyata, Sviatchenko, Tierney, Armstrong and Dembele.
ICT not posing a threat and are content to spoil Celtic’s game. The usual hefty challenges are happening and, as usual, are not being picked up by the ref. Both Lustig and Sviatchenko have been caught late but no fouls given.

GMS is an enigma. For most of the first half he hid from the ball. When he received it, he passed it backwards. Late in the half he started to move into the centre to find the ball. He has also had a couple of runs at the ICT defence. He is certainly stronger on the ball and less likely to be pushed off of it. He had the other shot on goal…and not a bad effort. Other times he has had changes to shoot but he is too slow in getting the shot off, making it possible for the defence to block his efforts.
He needs a goal.
