Celtic Diary Friday 18 November: Fitba’s Back . Again

Thats the international football finished until March, and for that we must be thankful. It gives Stewart Regan a few days away from the front line to sit down and work out what he wants to say in his resignation speech, and who he wants to give it to.

Image result for wink

Actually, that looks nothing like me.

Image result for wink gif

Thats better.

If he’s struggling for content, here are a few words and phrases he can use to help get his point across..

Undue pressure and influence

I was advised it was the right thing to do

I listened to those who claimed they knew better

I was led to believe the game relied on the money generated from ibrox

Dirty fucking cheating hun bastards.

One or more of those fitted neatly into the narrative and he could well come out of this with his reputation intact.

After the AGM heads were down a little, but with renewed -renewed ? -media interest in the Resolution 12 issue, there is still cause for optimism among the support.

Having spoken to one of the shareholders behind it, he says he’s happy with the behind closed doors meeting next week, and if he’s happy, then I am.

I was surprised and delighted to see it emerge in the written media, and again would like to praise those who took the initial step-knowing they would be on the end of a barrage of insults-to bringing the matter into the public eye.

In one sense, its backfired as the petition now has the hoofmarks of the more lucid orcs, yeah they are the most lucid, but as soon as they realise the target is not them but the SFA, then who knows, they might actually join forces with us-they like the word forces-and do something useful for a change.

Image result for celtic and rangers fans together

See what can happen if you remove the idiots ?

Meanwhile, Martin Williams of the Herlad group, the forst to break ranks and risk having his number removed from Level 5’s mobile phone, followed up the initial report with another that covered next weeks meeting with the board.

Having taken those first steps, and realised that the fall out isn’t so bad after all, if there’s anything else he needs to know about the issue, or if he wants to look a little deeper into the whole thing, then all he has to do is ask.

If he wants to turn those first faltering steps into a confident stride which will elevate him behind the rest of the pack in Scotland, all he has to do is ask.

After all, it is the job of a reporter to report, and he’s more than welcome to examine the evidence and draw his own conclusions.

All he has to do is ask .

Reallisitcally, all the top five should record victories, although aberdeen have the trickiest game, up at Inverness , who tend to scupper the best made plans of mice and men when they are in the mood.

Celtic, too, should have little difficulty in seeing off Kilmarnock, though there will probab;y be a few changes to what has become Brendna’s usual starting line up.

Tom Rogic has been gallivanting around the world again, and should be rested. Perhaps Leigh Griffiths will get a shot just behind Moussa Dembele, to keep him fit for what is looking like the Frenchmans inevitable exit in January.

Ah, well, Image result for tis better to have loved

Christian Gamboa is likely to deputise for Mikael Lustig, Stuart Armstrong may stand in for Nir biton, though if he keeps standing in he will be taking the spot permanently, and its any two from three on the flanks, with Forrest possibly giving way to Sinclair and Roberts to give him a wee break.

On Moussa Dembele, the vultures are gathering, and Brendan has fired off a couple of warning shots to make it clear he’s the one who decides what is going to happen.

If he leaves here at whatever point that will be it will be for a record transfer fee there is no question about that.

“I have worked with players who have gone for a lot of money. Raheem Sterling went for £49 million and he was a winger. Luis Suarez went for the money that he went for.

“He was an international player and after two years he left a world-class player. So this kiddie has the potential in value.

“Celtic won’t have to worry about players going for £10m any more.

“The kid still needs time. I think everyone wants to get him in and then sell him off.”

If he does go, then the man to replace him could be the player who has been compared favourably to him.

Image result for joe garner rangers

Supporters of new Glasgow rivals “rangers ” maintain that this lad is even better than Dembele, and if thats what they say, then i’m prepared to believe them.

We could get him for pennies-his club need the money-and  give him the experience and development he won’t get at Ibrox and take him from being a bright prospect at a wee team into an accomplished act with top level experience.

His clubs fans know a player when they see one, such as Barton, Kranjcar and that goalie who di Canio substituted after about ten minutes, so we should act now and then  we get a top striker and they get much needed cash to keep the lights on.

Image result for everyones a winner

Speaking of Joey Barton, he’s got himself a one game ban for his betting misdemeanor. More good news for him in the week his contract at “rangers ” was terminated.

It was, wasn’t it ?

Well, why the club tie then ?

Joey Barton

Thats if that photo was taken yesterday, because oddly enough, all the other outlets used old pictures of him and not from the hearing itself.

Maybe he hasn’t had his contract terminated, and he’s waiting for the first payment to clear before he agrees , er, to have his contract terminated.

Level 5.

Incredibly, people still sort of believe what they put out.

Here’s someone you don’t see every day.

tinlegstinlegsAlly McCoist, Walter Smith, Murdo MacLeod and Sir David Murray at the opening of Torrance Park Golf Club's new clubhouse.

Its Dodgy David Murray, he’s the one at the back, the one up front is a golf bag, the man who sold “rangers ” to the bad guys, and is now being gently re-introduced into society now that his five year ban on being a director is nearly spent…

The dream team are all there, Walter Smith, Ally McCoist and Murdo Mcleod , the man from level 5 charged with cleaning up the image of Dodgy Dave.

Photo shop Ibrox into the background and they won’t even need to bother with another photocall when this happens about six weeks after christmas.

Expect an interview where Dave tells us again how everyone duped him, and whilst holding an onion tells the gullibillies not to worry, its his turn to bend them over this time.

Though he may alter the narrative a wee bit.

Over on twitter, there was an exchange of views between a more rabid Ibrox fan than most, and the delightfully name jugsycfc;

See anyone you know from that description of us ?

Whereupon the reply appeared…

Which I thought kind of got the point across.

The supermoon brought all the howlers out, and twitter seemed to be the place they hang out, rather than cold and desolate moorlands.. antoher example of this pampered twenty first century generation.

The example is a poor one. Jesus did not re emerge and claim to have bought the history of another Jesus, and there is no record of the twelve disciples voting over whether or not to allow him at the top table again.

Still, at least it shows they are thinking, which quashes a few notions I had.

It’s Friday again, already, and that means its time for

Knob of the Week

Its a lot easier to win the title if you wait until Thursday to commit your act of Knobbery, as there’s little time for anyone to knock you off your perch.

Thats why this weeks winner is a cut above the rest, as his entry was made last Friday night, and bearing in mind we’ve had a whole week for him to be toppled, you have to admire what could well be the winner when we do Knob of the Year in January.

This does take some beating, bearing in mind the knobs that are out there, this guy is truly special…

I don’t know who he is, but I can guess what team he supports.

Congratulations to the anonymous fuckwit at Wembley last week.

You deserve the title..

Knob Of The Week.

Morning Ralph,
If your res 12 guy is happy with how things are proceeding and indeed, you are happy, then i’ll try to keep the faith a wee bit.
I just have a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach……..maybe it’s because i just looked at my payslip :)?

Seriously though, i’m not convinced our board want to challenge the SFA.

As recent as 1994 Celtic were minutes away from bankruptcy,it was saved only by the quick and generous action by John Keane,he withdrew £1 million pounds from his bank account.depositing it into the BOS.Gavin Masterton (ya cunt).
Thereafter Fergus McCann cann, arrived and installed a team of City heavyweights, Sir Patrick Sheehy,Brian Quinn and whisper it Dermot Desmond. They reconstructed Celtic to be the club we ken at present.
That includes the Board, that we (cough)hate so much.
I do not require a course of social justice, being born and brought up in an underprivileged town, socially deprived like most at that time,a wee proud pape, enduring like most of my faith, some hard times.Brought up to respect everyone of all faiths and none, including wealth and privilege.
The Board might be many things to many people, but people they are and we should all bear that in mind.

Funnily enough that was my lunch, for your info. i was at the AGM and used my minescule votes against P.L.I.L.and B.W.who had to stand for re-election,they mattered not a jot.Because Dermot!s shareholding far out numbers anyone els!s.
He is the power,he dictates policy,he gives the nod to everyone and anyone including who sits on the Board.
My opinion is that we should direct our ire at the SFA and the Govan gobshites, before we start on everyone else, not those who have a say on all things Celtic, irrespective of who they are and what they have.

I would be interested to know just exactly how much money Demrot has put into Celtic since his involvement.
£4m in shares initially
£4m underwriting share issue
(£8m to date)
To date.
I would NOT be suprised if it turns out he’s actually in profit by now?

He also purchased shares from Fergus to take his stake to 20%
in 2005 he also from the succesfull £15mill. share issue put a further £10 mill. in to fund a state of the art training facility (lennoxtoun).
His salary in this years accounts is £25 thousand.
Celtic Park investment to date is valued at £70,315,000.
It is estimated that if Celtic were in the EPL because of its world wide fan base,it would be in one of the ten richest clubs in the world.

Yes and his 20% SHare will be worth way more than he invested in them.
Which is kinda my point really.
How much has Brendan actually spent outwith the shares he owns (and can sell when the time is right)?
My gut says he is not out of pocket being the good business man that he evidently is.
Was he at the AGM btw?

mike

It wisny your point at all,you were looking to see if he had got back his initial 4 mill. investment, thats what you said.

Brendan? you mean Dermot and yes he is a good business man with wealth of some £1.4 billion pounds.

No he was not,his hired and trusted staff were their.

II do not see Celtic as a financial investment,it!s an emotional investment, you see growing up in Ireland,i had a fondness a luv for Celtic.
Kinda blaws your point/theory right out the water does it not.

The Charlie Saiz International

No my point was.. (see above)

“I would be interested to know just exactly how much money Demrot has put into Celtic since his involvement.”
Then…
“I would NOT be suprised if it turns out he’s actually in profit by now?”
As you can tell I don’t know exactly how much of his own cash he has sunk into Celtic outwith Investing in shares which he can sell at any time.
Do you know?
Does anyone know?
I am of the opinion that a Billionaire as he is would fire a few quid in at a loss when need be?
Did you know he was involved at Man United before Celtic?

mike

Yes i did know that along with his two pals, its seems clear to me that he gets the Tic.he isny in it for the cash,no one Fergus apart ever made money out of Scottish fitba. ask the BOS.
He is not investing in Celtic to make money, but like most millionairs if that oppertunity ever arrives, then he would take it.

The Charlie Saiz International

That opportunity will arrive there’s no maybes about it.
His shares will be worth way more than the price he payed them.
The Clubs value has almost doubled since 1994 from £34m to roughly £67m where it has been the past few years.
I agree that Dermot holds Celtic to his heart on an emotional level but I don’t think that pull is as great as some may think.
My argument is if it was we wouldn’t have gone through almost 10 years of downsizing since MON left Celtic.
He was instrumental in backing that Investment and Investment in the side that has never been matched since.
He is rarely at CP and seldom makes an appearance at AGM’s where most of the big decisions are presented and discussed.
The term “Absentee Landlord” has been levelled at him on many occasion and I think that descriptive is not too far wide of the mark.
For me Celtic is a conversation piece for Brendan when mixing with like minded people.
Ie people with real financial clout people people who could and can change things at clubs if they do so wish.
I just see him as extra insurance at Celtic personally.
He’s tied to Celtic financially because of his shares and as such won’t sit back and let those shares depreciate if things start to go wrong.
I don’t think the shite that happened post Cup exit to the huns had a massive impact on Dermot but I do think going another Season without the Champions League Bonanza did.
So he steps in barks his orders to get a Top Manager in and tells Lawwell to start signing some quality to back such an appointment.
The results are immediate we qualify and yet again he’s nowhere to be seen.
I have nothing against him or Lawwell for that matter they are in Football to make money not lose it.
Both are that’s a fact.
We are in a position where Dermot has already stated that he would not sell his shares unless someone came in with a plan to spend big time at Celtic and take us forward.
Don’t you find that a bit odd coming from a self confessed “Celtic man” who has the financial means to do exactly that?
I do.

Ralph, Cant agree with Knob of the Week Here is a guy dressed in Scottish gear with Saltires painted on his face and you ask us to guess what team he supports.
(doh) Scotland off course.

If every fan who paints their face or wears daft headgear was knob you would have been creaming yourself at the recent European Championships.
If the guy had been an Irish supporter wearing a daft cow horn and pigtails hat and his face painted with the tricolour would he have got knob of the week? (no I dont think so)

If you were implying that the guy was a Sevco supporter just because he supported Scotland, I would remind you the the current President (also founding member) of the Lennon CSC (North Staffs) is a member of the Scotland Travelling Support. Dont know if he paints his face or wears daft hats but knowing him he probably does

Exciting game so far. The pitch is playing a big part in supporting Killie. Too many passes are either over hit(the pitch) or inaccurate. Killie as expected are industrial. Roberts looks in the mood if he gets the ball. The back three looks just about adequate to handle Killie, although Boyata has created a few moments.

Not convinced by McGregor’s performance. He favours back passes rather than moving the ball forward. Also Gordon’s distribution is too slow and often uninspired. Still much of our play is attractive up to 10 yards from goal.

It was important to get the first goal, and we have.

One more goal for us will finish the Killie resistance.

Final score 1-0 for Celtic. It is good to win when we play poorly. Too many players off the ball tonight. Too many backward passes, too many inaccurate passes. It could easily have been a draw. Dembele looked to have trouble with his contact lens…maybe this put him off the boil. Sinclair ran into trouble too often. Was Rogic on the park? McGregor was McGregor…asking him to play on the wing and as a full back is beyond his capabilities. Armstrong ran himself out and faded.

Who was the commentator on CelticTV? He can improve by recognising the players. Armstrong is not Brown. McGregor is not Roberts and so on.

The experiment of playing Roberts inside with permission to rove across the forward position was not a complete success but it also was not a failure.

Why no Hendo? This was his kind of game tonight.

Best players: Lustig, Sviatchenko, Forrest, Armstrong. Maybe Brown, but maybe not.

Not the Celtic we come to expect,

Well a typical Celtic performance on Astro turf.
Poor passes wrong choices, but a win is a win.
Only our own mistakes could have cost us.
We lost our spark when Paddy went off.
Boyata hasn’t played a competive match so lay off the guy.. Boyata did his job clean sheet, mission accomplished.
This is where leagues are won, night games in freezing conditions, when things get ropey, you still win.
Onwards and Upwards.
McGregor did well at left back, thought we overplayed in the first half but got the goal. James Forrest and Paddy played well together. HH

Just game time,no harm done, Boyata I believe can prosper under Brendan. Schoolboy errors, but so did Toure and look at the age of him. Boyata could come on to be a player, and he must have showed something. Maybe OConnell McCart played in the match at Norwich the other night I don’t know.
But like I said no harm done and a match game under his belt.

Monti on what he has shown m8 agreed, but he has put in some decent performances in the past.
He could be another Brendan project.
It was a hard game for the lad, on a tricky pitch that our players didn’t like one bit.
We won m8 that’s all that matters.

Macca,
Boyata is a poor mans Oliver Tebily!

Also Craig Gordon’s kicking is shocking new keeper for January as de Vries won’t do either.

Good enough performance, moved well, passed well, linked up well and at a decent pace. Controlled the game well, the pitch done more to stop us playing than anything Kilmarnock did. Could have (probably should have) scored a few more, would like to see us being more clinical in the final third, finishing as well as the build up.

Players were ok but Boyata looked shaky with too many simple passes going astray and giving away stupid free kicks. MOTM: couldn’t decide between Forest and Lustig, both played very well. Erik had a really good game as well. That pink strip is so bad it’s embarassing, whoever designed it should be the Etims knob of the year.

I’ll design next seasons away top, just need to check with FIFA to see if you’re allowed a sand brown belt and a black brimmer of the broad variety.
