On World Poetry Day, The Holy Poet pays tribute to The Greatest…
Wee Jinky. Still Looking. 5th October 2016.
I saw you a hundred times
but you never knew my name
I was one of just the thousands
Who watched your every game
I watched you from The Jungle
Sometimes up the Celtic end
Yet to everyone you never met
To them you were their friend.
A bhoy so full of magic
You even played your nightly dream
You conjured up your wizardry
To star in Celtic’s team
Yet they thought you were a ballbhoy
When big Jock let you train
But the gallus smout wi’ ginger hair
Drove the first team Bhoys insane.
They couldn’t get the ball off you
But that was not through choice
It was then you were accepted
And became one of The Bhoys
And your statue outside Paradise
Sculpted out in bronze
Brings back to me the memories
Of a golden age that dawned.
When Paradise ruled the football world
Eleven legends you became
But you were the only Lion
That no-one ever tamed
I’ll remember you a legend
And legends never die
You’re still with us in our hearts
Still here in Paradise.
And though The Jungle is no more
I scan this pitch from end to end
Still looking out for Jinky
Still looking for my friend.
The Holy Poet.

HH.
Holy Poet,
Once again outstanding my friend HH
There was a Holy Poet named Paul
by jingo this Celtic bard had it all
He could rhyme, so sublime
Make you smile, all the time
but at the end of the day, he’s still bald
A fitting tribute
great stuff
Majic once again,Holy Poet,just brilliant.
Lovely poem and you tube stuff. Saw Jinky half a dozen times and what amazed me were how wide his shoulders were for such a wee guy and how balanced he was. Always in balance. Some of the tube stuff never seen before so thanks I really appreciate it. The end is against Real M for Di Stefano testimonial seemingly his best game!
Many many thanks man. You’re the poet and so was Jinky. It reminded me of a few things: Jinky could head them in as well and he created so many brilliant goals for others. We see a bit here and there from Paddy Roberts, Forrest and Sinclair but wee Jinky was magic and his like won’t be seen again. Magic, pure magic. It’s no coincidence that Jinky’s best years were also Celtic’s best years.
Holy Poet, cheers man.
